  1. Tell me about it. I'm switching to a Caspian as soon as I can find a decent deal on a frame and slide. There's one on gunbroker now for $600 but lol no thanks. They were selling for around $100 at Camp Perry, factory blems, so I'll try my luck this year and see what I can come up with. I like the M&P platform, but I also like the benefits of a steel frame gun. Here I run a CZ75 Tactical Sports as well as an M&P Pro, both in 9mm. Both guns have 1mm fiber optic front sights, 1.75 lb triggers and 20 round magazines, and despite the TS weighing nearly double, it doesn't give me any real competitive edge over the M&P at my current level of skill.
  2. Judging by the picture, the trigger pull is about the same weight as the empty gun.
  3. None of the M&P Pros I have shot have had any accuracy issues. They're more accurate than me.
  4. As a southpaw, I'll play. I use this gun for CCW, duty and competition. IWB/CCW: Remora, BladeTech Total Eclipse, Comp-Tac MTAC OWB: Fobus Paddle, Safariland 578 Pro-Fit. Running: SmartCarry Duty: BladeTech Level 2 duty holster. Competition: DAA RaceMaster, CR Speed.
  5. 5.5 mm front sight to avoid box scratching. GT5000 gun tape on slide. I enjoy shooting this gun.
  6. The hardest part is drifting out the rear sight and then putting it back in for dealing with the striker block. Other than that, everything's easy to do with a hammer, punch, board and a cartridge tray.
  7. Welcome. A friend of mine also has stubby hands, and found the gun to fit him best was a CZ75 SP01 Shadow with a single action trigger. Enjoy the sport!

    CZ TS mods

If your hands are on the big side, a taller, fatter safety on the weak hand side of the gun might be worth adding.

    CZ Shadow 2 video

It's as sexy as hell. Trigger looks interesting. Hope they have OFM grips of different thicknesses to suit different hand sizes.
  10. It's also a function of hand fit. The production Shadow didn't fit me too well. A grip expoxy job later and it was a glove, except that I was hitting the mag release during recoil. But the Shadow is a fine gun.
  11. Do the 9mm TSs have the same kind of slide stop life as the major power factor ones? Recoil in this gun is pretty non-existent, so I won't be using recoil buffers, and am wondering how many rounds to expect to shoot before having to change out the self-destructed slide stop.
  12. Any chance of replenishing the stock of TTI +3 M&P basepads at Speed Shooters International? For IPSC Standard Division, they are perfect!
  13. Hello crobber. You might want to see my thread of last month, including a video. I had an M&P Pro that wouldn't always fire either. I remedied this by detail stripping the striker and gunking out its channel. The striker's cocking tab was missing the sear as the slide moved forward. Probably due to the geometry of the compressed striker spring coils. Gun functions fine now. Worth a try, but there may be other differential diagnoses to your issue.
  14. This weekend I took a training session with my M&Ps (read: no thumb safety, no thumbrests), and made an effort (not yet subconscious) not to touch the gun with my thumbs. My shooting felt more relaxed, accurate and fast than usual. It's a project in progress.
  15. Follow up: after swapping slides between two M&P pros, one of which I have been shooting for a while and functioned reliably, I concluded that the striker's tab was missing the sear during cycling, by being too high or constrained in the striker channel. After detail stripping the offending striker assembly and cleaning everything, the gun functions well, even if I pull upwards/ rightwards on the slide during cycling to reset. One suspect was the geometry of the coils of the striker spring.
  16. Hello folks. I have two M&P pros with flat triggers and the forward set sear installed. In the second gun, I had to bend the connector loop up a bit for it to reach the sear. Here's a video of the gun not resetting consistently. When the slide is forced slightly to the right during racking, the striker does not get cocked by the sear (i.e. the trigger bar loop is not letting the sear catch the striker despite the trigger being held back). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCdF8gW-nY8 Any tips in remedying this situation would be appreciated.
  17. WHY? The indoor ranges that I frequent are too dark for me to pick up a narrow front sight quickly, given my fifth decade eyes.
  18. Wide sight for indoor ranges, narrow sight for outdoor ones. Just for fun.
  19. How inaccurate are the stock 5" M&P barrels supposed to be? I haven't noticed any inaccuracy problems with any of the one's I've been shooting.
  20. Dear shooting folks, I'm thinking of getting a CZ75 Tactical Sports in 9mm caliber (not the new Orange version). Besides basepads, are there any other parts that shooting this gun tends to consume at an unusual rate compared to other competition guns? Any inputs and tips would be welcome.
  21. Dear shooters, After shooting guns for some time, I consider it more difficult to shoot a polymer framed gun, such as a Glock or an M&P, than a steel one, such as an SP01 Shadow, with one hand (strong or weak). Even when dry fire with a laser seems okay (laser ammo cartridge), when I transition to live fire, the polymer gun's aim will drift in the direction of the path of least resistance just as the round is discharged. I don't get nearly the same effect with steel guns. And this happens regardless of finger positioning. Trigger weight exacerbates the phenomenon. The M&P's slide also moves a thousandth of an inch forward when the striker hits the primer. Any tips? I haven't tried crush gripping the gun yet, but what should I be looking at to help improve this situation. Thanks all.
  22. The gun has to fit you for the transition from DA to SA to be smooth.
