  1. This is likely one of those strange areas where IPSC and USPSA have different standards. IF you want to know for sure then John Amidon an email and ask him. That should clear it up.
  2. We'll get you to B class no matter how loud you are kicking OR screaming!
  3. To Nik's defence that popper was slow and heavy. My loads are around 135PF and those popper fell S..L..O..W.. In fact after hitting the first two I got a bit flustered because I KNEW they where good hits but as I moved to the paper I could still see them standing from the corner of my eye, and I took my eyes off the sights to make sure they were going down. They were, and they got me a Charlie Delta on the paper .. Grrr. I think my time was 3.15 which would make it 65% or so in production, about par for me, a B shooter.
  4. I think I found the answer http://www-personal.umich.edu/~pell/index.html
  5. There is parallel thread in a different forum and I've asked this question there as well: If a rival shooter picks up a rock and throws it at my head while Im shooting a course of fire, do I get DQed for droping the gun as my fingers let go of it while I'm passing out from the impact? I dont care what happens to the freedom fighter .. HUH .. I mean rock thrower. I care to know if you DQ the person who was knocked out.
  6. One of my buddies just got a Subaru Legacy 2.5GT and he loves it. 250 horses and AWD in a sedan. That sounds good to me.

    Ooops!

Is it not possible that the lighter the load, the less likely it is that a double charge will be noticed, specially in a very deep case like the .38 special? Again, not trying to argue, but I would think if this was a reproduceble phenomenon, powder manufacturers would have managed to reproduce it and publish minimum charges.

    Ooops!

I dont mean to argue with people with a LOT more experience then I, but I never bought the low charge detonation thing. My 9mm production load is 3.1gr of TG. Even in the 9mm case 3.1gr of TG is like a dusting, and it clearly lays under the flash hole when laying on its side. I suspect this is true of almost any load with Titegroup, and sure as heck that the 4.2 grain (If I remember correctly) that my .45 load has takes almost no space in the giant ashtray that the .45 case is. And Titegroup is not a slow powder. On the rifle side, the levergun folks do all kind of odd things to make 30/30 loads that shoot like .22s. I mean they use every combination of powders and volumes you can think of even including using pistol powders in rifle cases (eek!) and they dont blow themselves up unless they overpressure the case by using TO MUCH powder as opposed to LITTLE. Also If I remember correctly an number of loading manuals mention that no testing done by powder companies ever reproduced such a thing. I would think for liability reasons they would quickly publish MINIMUM loads next to the max if they thought that would be a problem. What I do believe is that people have blow up guns by using the wrong powder and blamed it on the low charge thing. Hey I've only used 20 grains of Titegroup in this .308 case and the Max load with Varget is 45gr. So it couldnt possible be that 20gr of TG would create to much pressure, it must have detonated. However I am really curious if anyone has a provable incident of that. I would think if a IPSC type charge can do it we would see it a lot more and it would be repeatable. Almost all of us shoot the same handfull of loads or thereabouts. I'm not trying to start and argument and if I'm wrong please tell me, I just dont think there is much to that theory.

    Ooops!

Take a look at http://www.shooter-grrl.com/images/gun/Barrel6.JPG. Note how the break seems to follow the lettering. That cant be good. I wonder if the stamping did something bad. I'm glad everyone is ok.
  10. It looks good to me but I do have two "problems". Take these with a grain of salt as I am not known for my multigun prowess MG 1.2 The 40 round limit I think is way to low. With everyone having at least on working 40rd AR mag it means that there will never be any rifle mag changes. MG 5.1.7 Does that mean that in tactical if my scope breaks, I can't remove it and use the iron sights? A number of rifle configurations include quick detach scopes which need to be removed to use the iron backups. Perhaps we can say that if a scope is removed it can not be reattached for the match. I would even say for the stage only, as in the "practical" world you might be able to repair gear between events.
  11. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Which is great but funnier then hell ..
  12. Rydons for about 1 year. No damage so far, but I did scratch my clear lense in a way that confused me for a while. I couldnt tell how I managed it, until I noticed the putting my nose to the charging handle puts my glasses in contact with it as well. Oops.

Without Remorse Starship Troopers Enders Game and a few more, I'm sure.
  14. We dont have the add problem in NJ, but this is a state where self-serve doesnt exist by law. So we all get to sit in our cars and hand our cash or credit cards to someone else to do it for us. I guess they dont want to blast adds to the people working there.
  15. AMEN, Brother! But I thought political postings weren't allowed on this forum? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is so, but how is a discussion on responsibility a political topic? There is an answer that might make it so, but it is to sad to contemplate.
  16. It actually looks like it takes standard 1911 sights and the front one is there but hard to see. With the same sight radius as a 1911, if you place it in the regular spot on hanguard, it should be right at the same place as your handgun sights are normaly. It could be a really cool thing if you used the same sights on your handgun and rifle. They would look the same for short range shots.
  17. There are multiple suitable models. Until recently the hot model was the 85Combat with sights replaced by those available from Angus, and a trigger job. With the introduction of the SP-01 that may change. However the SP-01 is on the approved list but it is expected to be debated this summer by the IPSC council because some think it stretches the limits. After that point it may or may not be production legal in IPSC and then USPSA will have to decide if it is USPSA legal. However you can compete just fine with many of the different models. I use a 75B and I dont feel that the gun is holding me back. On the caliber side, 9mm is still king though a lot of folks shoot .40 minor. That is up to you and how you like recoil to feel.

    My Kind Of Weapons

I dont care if it makes major, that mag has got to be bigger then 172mm. Plus I'm sure that they used more then one optical sight so its not tactical.

  20. Cabelas. There are a few around the place so find one. The Internet. Ask Al Gore about it. Glocks use springs? New York, New Orleans, take a long drive through Virginia and the Carolinas. Sam Adams, Dogfish Head. Any with red/white/blue blinky lights on top. You dont want a ride to where they are going. I like "Enterprise" if you drive yourself. Whichever is less busy. And we shoot our way down the road with 500S&W revolvers to reduce the traffic. No, try Wendy's. Of course I know Willie and he told me all about you. You stay away from me, you hear?
  21. Actually 5.4 is very vague on this. I cant remove my eye protection to gain an advantage? but can I add or remove the prescription insert behind my eye protection? All that aside the wording of 5.1.3.2 is quite clear to me: “Optical/electronic sights” are aiming devices which use electronic circuitry and/or lenses." The magnifier could not possibly be a aiming device. You cant aim with it. I put it in the same category as a killflash scope cover, though a lot more usefull. By itself it is worthless. I think that regardless of how you read the current rule a better wording would refer multiple sighting planes. I my opinion any number of devices chained should be considered one optic, as long as only one of them has an actual aiming aid (dot, crosshair, smiling face) and the others act as optical aid for the main devices. In my opinion you should be able to add a night vision device in front of you aimpoint or a multipler behind it. You can buy scope that incorporate all of those things into one unit. The piece meal might even be more expensive, but more affordable as you can buy it in smaller chunks Just my take on the issue.
  22. Question ... If I take my astigmatism correcting lenses out of my Rudy's or I put them back in does that put me in open? They sure as hell are an OPTICAL device. They sure as hell let me see what I'm shooting at better. They sure as hell make the other optics on my gun (or the iron sights) work better. Unless I am prone in which case geometry makes me shoot better without my OPTICAL inserts. If my glasses are not yet another optical sight then magnifier shouldnt be either because the two are not that different. They are both lenses designed to help me aim. Neither of them has an aiming device on it. and if I want to go batshit crazy I can proabably have someone build me a pair of glasses with amplification. However compared this with the A2 sights was right on. Switching between apertures is perfectly legal, even though it change the configuration of the sights. The magnifier does the same for red dot. Whenever the rules stop making sense is time for people to use common sense and then change the rules.
  23. On a related note Penn and Teller took on the JFK myths in last weeks "Bullshit!". Though not using ammo, Penn's 3 shot time with the Carcanno was 3.8sec vs the "impossible" 5.6 and then they shot a specialy prepared melon to show you why JFK's head moved back as opposed to forward. They seem more progun whenever I see them. In the first season they made fun of a "survival school" by pointing out the the money would have been better spent by buying a case of ammo.
  24. I'm man enough to admit that I'm afraid of flying. Well, I'm afraid of flying in commercial aircraft. As a kid I used to get rides from military helo's during their testing runs and I thought it was a blast. As an adult I know how metal can fail and how airlines save money. I fly when I have to, and I have flown 12+ hours each way like 5 times. I just rather drive if its within one day or so. I'll jump in a helicopter with crazy military test pilots any day though.
  25. Our indoor matches where we get encourage new shooters to come by have gone from 15-25 shooters last year to 25-40 shooters this year, mostly from new shooters. We have these twice a month. The rise is here to stay and we adjusted our 4 stages such that we finish before midnight. The outdoor regular monthly match brings about 60 shooters which is about the same as in previous years, but I suspect there will be a delay before our new "indoor" shooters become "outdoor" shooters. We are also seeing a lot of young people show up, college students, and fathers bringing their 13-15 year old kids out. Its great. I honestly think that at least in NJ we are seeing a lot more people come out and shoot USPSA.
