  1. when you shoot rigles at distances of 1,000 yards and greater, there are lots of things that will make you bullet impact higher or lower. Here in south Mississippi in August, the heat can greatly effect where your bulloet hits in relation to your normal zero. Humidity, sunlight, wind and the rotation of the earth all effect teh flight of a miving, spining projectile as will teh uniformity of the projectile itself. You can buy all of the ballistic charts, ballistic computersand other doodads you want (I have most of them) but there is no better way to detrerming what you rifle/bullet combination will do than to shoot it in those conditions. That's why long range shooters are so anal about their data books. Some long range shooters are even starting to use video to record their data, shooting and the conditions.
  2. Before you cick in a door, make sure it does not open outward. I ended up falling back down the steps of a shotgun house during a drug raid. It was funny afterward, but while I was falling backward wtih a pistol in one hand and a flashlight in the other, it was kind of scary. I was a lot yunger then, and if I had taken the time to check I would have discovered the door was unlocked.
  3. I just got classified as a C today, 43.59 percent. I now humble request to be added to this distinguished race to B class. thanks, Gerald Forbes A69732 43.59
  4. I feel for you. I've had three back surgeries since 2001 and the bottom three limbar discs have been removed and replaced with carbon fiber implants. I have a large amount of screws, brackets and rods in my back that are a hoot in airports. considering how bad my back was, I am doing pretty good for an old, fat, slow guy.
  5. Will, Gerwin told me you got bumped to "A" class. Congratulations. I got bumped to "C." It took me awhile to overcome my first three which were 25-30 percent.

  6. Last week during departmenta qualifications, one of our officer had a malfuntion on teh firing line. when I looked at this Glock 21SF, I was amazed to see a round in the chamber backwards. It was not fulle chambered, of course, but teh rim was pushed far enough into the chamber that it could not be grabbed and pulled out with fingers. Thankfully I had a polymer cleaning rod in my pocket. I still don't know exactly how he ended up oputting a round in the mag backwards.
  7. Also useful is investing in a digital video camera and having one of the other shooters video you stages. My friend has one and he makes me a copy of my shooting, and the last couple of times he inlcuded videos of him shooting the stages as well as some other shooters in the same squad. I think l learn more from watching teh mistakes I made as well as it helps diagnose why. And then occassionally I see that I did something really well. Nothing like a little positive reinforcement.
  8. One fat guy watching me masturbate is enough, thanks. No. This was a mental picture I did notneed, partiucularly after looking at your avatar.
  9. What they both said, but I waited until I was 58 to start. My first match and already I was a Senior. It was still a blast, and maybe in 5 years when I get to be 65 I'll havee obtained enough skill to be an adequate Super Senior. But when I look at the skill levels of some of the Super Seniors, maybe not.
  10. At the Gator Classic there was a stage that used snow fence as soft cover and barrels as soft cover on two different targets. You had the option of moving forward enough to get a clear shot at the targets around the barrels, or to continue moving laterally and shooting through the barrels to hit the targets. With just my squad I saw it done both ways, some succesful and some not so successful. I think the key was that you were not forced to shoot through the barrels, you had the option to take the risk for a significant time savings. I thought it was a very fun stage. Iwent halfway between teh two options and it turned out like halfway (half a---d) meaures usually do.
  11. Shaking the slide is one of teh checks to ensure that the striker is free to move in the channel. I have encountered over 10 pistols in the last 20 years that had so much evaporated oil and carbon in the firing pin (striker) channel that teh striker was "frozen" and the pistol would not fire. In each case it was because oil or solvent was allowed to run into the striker hole in the bolt face. It is good idea to point the slide muzzle down when cleanin the bolt face, and use a ry (no solvent), stiff brush. On a really dirty bolt face, I have used a Q-tip moistened with alcohol. It also important when cleaning the firing pin channel to no use solvent, and NEVER use a brush in the channel this will pull out the polymer firing pin channel liner, which will then need to be replaced. Although they are cheap, you may not have one when you need to replace it.
  12. I have the opposite problem. I am fairlt smooth and not too slow out of the holster, and normally get a good hit on teh first plate. Most times I get the second plate, but then everything goes to caca. I think I know what is causing it, and have practiced this plenty but in matches I seem to revert. what I tend to do is lead the transition with my pistol rather than my eyes, so I "get behind" the front sight and never catch up.
  13. The timer is my "delete" button. Everytime the timer goes off, my plan and focus goes out the opposite ear. But, I am noticing steady if not spectacular improvement.
  14. Old Trooper: Yep, but it was a long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.
  15. Does she shoot. If she does it makes for some really good road trips. Welcome.
  16. Wewlcome. You have some really great shooters in you area. I wassquadded with some of them for the 2011 Gator Classic, and they are really good guys.
  17. Welcome from Biloxi. Where do you shoot?
  18. 185 Precision moly, 4.6-4.7 grains of WSF, 14 or 15 pound ISMI spring in ISMI stainless guide rod = soft.
  19. If all else fails, get a bigger hammer. If all else fails, read the directions.
  20. +1 for Warren sights. I have several Glocks with Trijicon or Meprolight sights on them and there is almost no light showing on teh sides of teh front sight. AT almost 60, my eyes do not focus as well as they used to. I am currently using mostly Warren Tacical Sevigny competition sights. On a G24 they are abour 1/3 light, 1/3 front sight and 1/3 light. Mo'betta.
  21. Here is an ambi safety on an old pin gun from the 80's. I don't have a clue who made it, but it is big.
  22. He ought to be much maligned for that mullet. Unless that video was shot in the 80's, that hair do iw ell out of style. come to thinkl of it, wasn't it in the that time frame whem the premier federal agency (FBI) was teaching point shooting? Man, it is just like my wardrobe! You keep it long enough and it will come bck in vague.
  23. I vote for the seven sided utility cover. I have tehm in OD, tan, black and the new USMC digital (MARPAT) camo. I even have one that is starched (for nostalgia purposes, but I call it my dress cover).
  24. No, no, no! The bathroom gun is a different gun, compl;etely. The holster has a toothbrush pouch, and the holster and teh grips are covered in terrycloth so they will blend in with the towels.
  25. Semper Fi to my brothers everhwhere. Kickin' ass for 236 years. Just in case anyone wondere, that is the USMC flag being carried by Eddie in my avatar Ooooooooorah!
