  1. Well, revisiting this topic......... as stated earlier, shot a match in December and January after a 3 1/2 year hiatus...... and then weather and life got in the way for the last couple of months until this past Saturday when we got out again to a match at what might be the NICEST range I've ever been to and it's locally roughly an hour's drive. Still haven't bought (should that say re-bought?) guns or a press again yet, so once again borrowed equipment and shot the match. We purchased an airsoft gun not long ago and found it was very helpful in getting back the "feel" of the gun. We had a good time and it was a tough but great fun match. The outcome if you want to call it that........ shooting borrowed equipment does not in any way ENHANCE your shooting abilities, and while airsoft has been good and a little practice has helped, hitting the mag release on a gun a few times during stages (as a southpaw, those extended ones get in the way!!) and generally forgetting that it's not an open gun means shooting out of your mind and generally scores reflect that. I've probably never shot that many penalties in my whole shooting career. Zeroing two stages (FTE, my brain and memory stages obviously ain't friends!!) pretty much doomed my outcome. The good news was it was STILL a hell of a lot of fun and sorta now convinced may just stick back doing it for a while......even if just a monthly match, it seems like I see it recurring. I do have to say, man, I do miss shooting open though....... that whole aiming thing was WAY overrated.............. hahahaha!!
  2. http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=63 Not perfect but may fit the bill. -Mike
  3. Practice your draw from every way imaginable.........table start, surrender, regular, etc........and make sure you find the dot. Dot is your friend.
  4. Well, I think like most things, the answer is going to end up "it depends". I went from a G35 to an STI Edge..... overall, didn't see much difference, if any...........
  5. Having a reliable gunsmith you trust and feel good working with will go a loooong way in making shooting Open more pleasurable.

  8. Here is a link to a burn rate chart, YMMV.......http://www.reloadbench.com/burn.html Edit to add: another variation on the same theme: http://www.hodgdon.com/burn-rate.html -Mike
  9. Chris-- this: http://www.arnicare.com/arnicare-gel/
  10. Tape it to the toe next to it, use Arnica on it, and try to not overdo it. It'll heal, but it'll hurt for a while too......... and yeah, seated table starts sounds like a good idea.
  11. Wife and I both shoot, so both started in production; moved her to limited and I stayed in production; moved myself up to limited a while later. Her limited gun bit the dust and bought her an Open gun...... and once she started soundly trouncing me I decided what was good for the goose was good for the gander......... although she still beat me time to time. Now after our couple year hiatus we are probably going to go straight to open again.
  12. Out of my open gun, I was running this load: 7.7g N350 124 MG JHP 1.235 OAL, making 172 PF.......small rifle primer. Edit to add: this was .38 super, FYI.
  13. I did dryfire practice again and left both eyes open......... similar result as before....some ghosting and some double images, but it does appear that my brain is "trying" to get it figured out. I need to actually do some live fire to be able to fully confirm how it is working, but so far, at least in dryfire practice, it is slowly improving. I do still have to fight the urge to naturally close an eye after doing it for so long. We shall see, no pun intended.
  14. Was doing a file clean up, and found this.......... man, I can't believe I sold these!! My race gun on the left, wife's Brazos in middle, and the spare on the right.......... and now I'm back to the drawing board and having to buy stuff again!
  15. Just finished this: Stealing Second (The Amendments) by Nicholas Antinozzi http://www.amazon.co...nw_myk_ro_title
  16. Last nite was the first time I tried practicing with just leaving both eyes open and seeing what happened........ lot of ghost images/double vision at first, but near the end it was to where I was "seeing" the correct picture. Only did about 15 minutes...... but will try it again today and see if I'm starting to see the benefit, no pun intended.
  17. IMR 4756, N350, 3n37........ used all, like IMR 4756 the best. Small rifle primers.
  18. I'm back to re-thinking this again, and I' m going to try this approach a bit. I started out closing an eye, then did the tape thing, worked but was a hassle, tried both open and gave up, back to closing one........ now I think Steve has a great idea. I'm just going to dryfire till I don't need to close an eye. Maybe a couple weeks, maybe till I qualify as super senior, but we'll see.
  19. Dryfire, for sure. Steve Anderson's books, Ben Stoegers new books........... and the desire to improve. -Mike
  20. Found some old load data from my G35 using W231...... took 4.8g w/ 180 JHP MG bullet. 1.135 OAL. Not that you asked on other powder, but my favorite load was 4.6g of VVn320 w/ 180 Zero JHP. -Mike
  21. Welcome to a very active and fun area for action pistol shooting! USPSA, IDPA, 3-gun, it's all here. Glad to have another Texan! -Mike

    TS load info

When I was loading for Limited, I never found the 200 g. bullets to "feel' right.......always went w/ 180s. Some folks have lots of luck w/ plated and/or coated bullets, but I always used Zero or Montana Gold. Personal preference. The powder selection is going to come down to personal choice too....... I liked Vihta Vuori best but before landing on it I also loaded w/ W231, WST, 4756, etc........ just find a load that is best for you. What is the OAL for CZ? Similar to the Glock? -Mike
  23. Very nice! What grips are those?
