  1. I have used my ankle high gore-tex hiking boots while shooting in the rain/mud and found them quite comfortable and with good traction in that environment. Eric

    Assymmetrical grips?

I tried out assymetrical grips with LOK palmswell strong hand side, flatter VZ grip weakhand side. Seemed like it would have been nice for bullseye shooting but for our quick shooting sport i find symetrical grips index in a more intuitive way. ericg
  3. this is what I have done with my MP9 Carry Optics back up gun, works great. No safety to engage, accuracy and speed fine for 3Gun, don't have to worry about the gun if I go prone. What do I care if the top Open shooters beat me? They would no matter what division I shoot. Actually it is surprising how many Open shooters I can beat this way considering that I am really a Tac-Optics shooter using Tac-Optics equipement except for the Carry Optics dot. Eric
  4. My advice for Phoenix: when you go to visit your daughter make sure you visit at a time when Rio Salado has a match and go up there and shoot the match. That's what I did when I was there for a business trip. Eric
  5. Yep, you have an advantage over many shooters being used to the DA first shot which intimidates others. Keep that advantage, practice up the SA and the transition from DA to SA and all will be good. Eric
  6. in order to have mag and holster compatibility with my SP01 Shadow Custom I ended up going with a CZ85C. Will be working gradually on action work then figuring out what I want to do for red dot mounting for Carry Optics. eric
  7. Looks good, glad you like the grips. Eric
  8. Agree: I have purchased various parts and am working on my CZ85C in stepwise fashion. Just finished putting in extended firing pin, reduced power FP spring, and 13# main hammer spring along with some polishing of firing pin channel and mainspring strut during the process. Just these extremely simple steps reduced my SA trigger pull from 5 1/2 pounds to 4 1/2 pounds. and definitely feels better. Eric
  9. for your first classifier I reccomend just shoot each target in the middle and don't overthink it. Eric
  10. Yep that's what I do. Plus then any other semi auto I pick up I can operate the same way and I like that consistency. Eric
  11. Considering getting a CZ 85C to use a a backup carry optics gun (my primary carry optics gun will remain my CZC sp01 shadow custom)

any comments on the 85C as a carry optics gun now?

    thanks,

    Eric

I don't mean to jump off your question I'm just looking to find the best/brightest red dot for CO that holds up well...thanks

  12. that makes sense. Both of the pictured holsters are legal for CO by the rules. Eric
  13. Absolutely, I have taken the Fundamentals class twice and found it very helpful both times. I would be happy to take it again sometime. Each time before I took it I was at somewhat of a plateau in my progress. Preparing for the class, taking the class, then at home afterwords working on the areas pointed out by Ben definitely helped me rise past my plateau. EricG
  14. you could drop a little weight easily by switching to the synthetic guide rod, thats what I did to help my Carry Optics gun be a little less muzzle heavy. Eric
  15. I believe they are fine by the rule, however if your production holster is kydex you can just do what I did and use a Dremel to grind away a little bit of holster material where the optic hits the holster until you get it to fit. eric
  16. 6 moa dot covers 1 1/2 inches at 25 yards, not too much at all. 3 inches at 50 yards not too much either if you ever even see a 50 yd target in USPSA. EricG
  17. Absolutely, it's just a matter of what you want. As for me, I want my CZC Shadow. Eric
  18. an excellent idea and one I may end up following! For no real reason I have just been wanting to try a polymer frame CZ as something different from what I already have. An excuse to get a new gun as much as anything. Eric
  19. Looking for advise on which is better for Carry Optics: SP01 Phantom VS P-09?? My Carry Optics gun is a CZC SP01 Shadow Custom which is a wonderful gun and I plan to keep using it as my main CO gun. However I would like to get a lightweight , less expensive CZ pistol to use a a Carry Optics back-up gun. When I saw that the Phantom supposedly is coming back this year I thought I would pick one up for use as my back-up, especially as it uses the same mags as my Shadow which would certainly be handy. However I have read some borderline comments about the Phantom so am not sure what to do. I could just get a P-09 for back-up instead and just deal with having to buy and bring two types of expensive mags to matches. Thus my question above as to which is better, Phantom or P-09? It partly depends on how good of a trigger can I get on a Phantom, I guess I should also try to find a Phantom and see how the grip fits my hand compared to the P-09. I have never actually seen a Phantom. Thanks for any comments, Eric

    Max capacity 140mm

For mine it has been assemble and go so far, YMMV. However one of mine did not quite fit the mag gauge without a little filing, suggest you check with a mag gauge if possible. EricG
  21. what would be the preferred lens color when using a red-dot optic? any different? EricG
  22. to a gun person it makes sense to put 700 into a gun you have not used in years, we get it! They are both beautiful. Eric
  23. Tried this today and it works great! 25 yard freestyle groups the best I have ever done. Thanks Memphis! Eric
