  1. The 30 carbine will be a problem as most of the fast trimmers go off the shoulder, but who trims them anyway, they are in essence a pistol case. For 223-308 ext. the Giraud is awesome. Much better than my old Gracy, which I sold after buying the Giraud.
  2. Detent ball is the way to go, but Locktite purple will work in a pinch. Not quite as strong as blue.
  3. You may want to worry more about the differences in chronos?
  4. The guys I have seen condemning Wolf are usually the guys that might shoot 200 rounds a year and the gun-store/Internet commandos. I have personally put 10's of thousands of rounds down range in matches and practice and the only problems I have seen is it low powered " a good thing in local matches", accuracy is lower 1.5 MOA, and its slightly dirty. If you want clean run VV or X-Terminator. This is in barrels running from Colt and Bushy M4's to pricey JP's and Krieger's. The steel case being hard on extractor bit is put out by people that have not ran a Brineal tester against a soft pot metal/ steel case. Yes you will stick a case using the old lacker coated stuff if you leave a case in a hot gun, but not with the newer stuff.
  5. Silhouette was my favorite load for quite a while, but in my shorty it was a bit hot - should be good in a full length gun. I use HS-6 now. 3N37 is great feeling and clean but does heat up the gun quite a bit more than all the other powders I have tried. I still want to try out N350.
  6. Jeff; Are you sure you want to go limited? I discovered for me limited was like Nascar while Open is like Formula 1. Send me a PM with your # and we can set up a day at CFRPC, and you can run my SV limited gun and my Bedell Open gun side by side. I have relegated my Limited shooting to 3-gun. Yes Open is stupid expensive to get started in, but my shooting costs are actually lower now as 125gr. bullets are cheaper than 147's or 180's.
  7. JP upper with lightweight stainless BC, 18"-20" you choice I like midweight. The CTR02 looks nice but the mil speck upper shoots the same. Mil speck lower with the stock of your choice. I like Magpuls, with the Magpul trigger guard. The new AR Gold trigger is sweet. I like my new one better than all my JP's. The nicest things I like about JP and are musts on my "competition" rifles are V-Tac float tube and lightweight Stainless steel bolt carriers. there are lots of good comps and barrels. I even built an 18" upper using a shortened 20" M16 government profile barrel, V-Tac tube and LWSS carrier with a mckulic comp and it runs head to head with my CTR02 on fast stuff, but is only 1.5 MOA vs my JP's at 1/2 MOA. Forgot you need an adjustable gas block, the JP is great but several others work.
  8. Some of us "old guys" may have a heart condition. you could send someone to the hospital with a comment like that. Only the one's who have met her . . . +2
  9. There are several great gunsmiths to have one built, I like Bedell but Benny Hill is great also. Have never heard a bunch of great things about "factory" 9 Open guns. For caliber 9 Major is great till you need that extra few % a softer shooting Super or Super Comp will give you IMHO. Like high M or GM. If I built another open gun next week, I would get a full length 9 major Bedell with the Ti. comp.
  10. Jack; If I would have gotten off my butt & made it today I would have been livid also, especially if I lost to several shooters by just a couple of percent. Haven't seen the scores yet, but its a highly completive group of B-GM guys. I am a gamer big-time, but I would have drawn performed the reload then hosed away. Everyone is right about verbal vs. written stages, but someone should have said something? The stage should be tossed and taken as a learning lesson to all. By the way Jack has more "experience" than the vast majority of board members.
  11. Same optic you are using on the gun you are practicing to be good with. Mine happens to have a C-More, easy to justify as I pull it off and take it as a spare to big matches.
  12. They are great mags. I prefer p-mags as they are faster for me to get in and out, but they are first class aluminum mags and this was a fantastic group buy. Get with me and I can let you try out anything you may want at CFRPC. PS if you dont like them I will take them off your hands as reserves.
  13. Some pictures of the new Trijicon TR24R mounted on top of my Spikes Tactical 22, using a LaRue SPR-E. I built up Spikes Tactical upper and bolt, V-Tac rifle length tube & SS fluted 16" barrel as a practice rifle. The new scope is nice. Field of view is larger and brighter. Adjustment knobs are slightly larger. Eye relief is about an inch shorter. have not had a chance to ring it out yet but seems like a viable 3-gun optic. This is the most fun rifle I own.
  14. Where you are with bright sunshine I like Ionbond as I shoot better with a black limited gun. The flash from hard crome in my sight picture is distracting. Ionbond for Limited, hardchrome for Open
  15. TSA will make up rules as they go without consulting the FAA approved airline rules the airline has to abide by. And the airline counter person may not know sht. Check your airline web sight for the rules and carry a copy with you. It is flat out illegal for a TSA person to open your locked firearm case without you personally present. With a pistol to be in compliance a good move is to have your pistol locked in a case with non tsa locks inside your suitcase that is locked with a tsa lock. For security, try a cable lock passing through the frame of your gun through the side of the pistol case and around the suitcase frame with a big old master lock. Works to keep your pistol and case from walking off. On the outside of your pistol case which will be inside your suitcase, have a placard that reads. Per FAA and bfe airline policy the owner of this case must be present before opening. name, cell #. No I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn select. I work for an airline and deal with TSA's ever changing policy's constantly.
  16. I did ask and was told no upgrade or new model with brighter illumination was planned. Of course sales and tech dont always talk. It sure is a nice scope though.
  17. You will save a bunch of money in the long run buying once, I will be happy to show you some setups. 550 minimum, may as well get a 650 now. Scale; I "prefer" a beam type over digital. I have both and I trust the beam. Just so happens I have an extra Dillon I will make you a smoken deal on. If you are going to buy dies, its worth just paying once and getting the EGW U die, and factory crimp die. Dillon polisher and media seperator almost a must, unless you want to buy brass. Case guage before your first "big" match. Of course a Titusville monthly match is like many state championships. One shot case lube and a gallon zip lock bag is worth every penny. I will give you a zip lock. Dillon primer flip tray, CD cases have static. I like "dial" calipers. Old machinist at heart. Feel free to call me all night.
  18. +1 U die Factory crimp die doesnt resize just checks for gross oversize.

    9mm major

My data and work mirrored yours but it took me a while to try and then settle on HS-6, not as dirty in my short gun due to higher pressures to make major. Silhouette got scarry pressure wize at 168PF in my short gun with holes. Want to try out 350 as its the only one I havnt played with.
  20. OK if you are going to Titusville look me up and I will have 100 Zero 147JHP for you to try out. For production I like the Zero 147JHP Open Zero 125JHP Limited or 40 production Zero 180JHP The Montana gold are nice but Zeros shoot better for me in all guns. I do use Berrys 180 plated HP for limited, 3-gun practice and local matches. Sorry but the black bullets smoke like trains for me.
