  1. +1 on the whole statement. I have gone from shorty M4's to my current 20" JP and find the weight and length don't slow me down on quick hoser stuff but sure does help when the ranges go past 30 yards. If you add a JP full float tube you will loose a bit of weight and gain a bunch of accuracy and have a good feeling hand-guard. A good muzzle break, 1x4 scope and trigger will round out the package.
  2. Its just a whole lot more fun. I shoot my limited gun occasionally & for 3-gun, and to tell the truth its boring. Besides its so much fun to listen to the limited guys whine. They will say there gun is a "real gun" then in the same breath bash IDPA???? If you don't shoot Open you cant whine about the tactical crud.
  3. I have had great luck with Kurt's Kustom for re-profiling, threading and fluting. He returns the barrel with a great finish also http://www.kurtskustomfirearms.citymax.com...e/page/8932.htm
  4. Time to fly home, visit mom, eat REAL Mexican food and shoot a match.
  5. Buy lots of mags as you may not be able to next year?? Hard chrome is great at preventing wear and for ease of cleanup. I love it on my open gun, but my next limited gun will be ionbonded. The flash of the silver slide catches the sun with my limited gun. I have found I have better sight focus with a black gun.
  6. Going to be a busy week. All the big dogs will be in town just before the match. http://www.shotshow.com/App/homepage.cfm?m...;appname=100300
  7. Except for the Glock one with factory white box which I suspect may have been slightly out of battery, they have all been in a fully supported chamber. This out of over 35K in over 3 years. My bet is most once fired brass is fired from Glocks in an unsupported chamber, when this is fired then resized it stresses the case juncture with the base. It almost looks like in each case the case is not fully secured to the base in the first place. If you section a Winchester White box 9mm case you can see the separation line, almost looks like it is welded together not forged in one piece. Would love to see how they are actually made. I have picked up Super brass that you could see the cracks just not as spectacular, better quality control, lower pressures and less flow from the original chambers?????
  8. A 10 foot kitchen countertop works great. Just enough space for a couple of presses and some work room.
  9. I have blown a few 9mm cases in 9mm Major, and even a Win. white box in production gun. Necks crack quite often while resizing range brass. I have learned not to use once fired from an unknown source, got hold of a bunch of machine gun brass and blew a couple of cases like this. Out of 7 or so case separations in my 9mm Open gun, a couple in my 40 Limited gun, and one in a 9mm Glock using new WWB. One blew so violently I jerked my head so hard my glasses came off and another blew the gun out of my hand, most have blown the mag out of the gun. Knock on wood.....I have never damage to me or the gun, but I do look at the case head juncture. I have found a few once fired cases where the crack was already there just waiting for me. I dont separate by brand, as I have found the "best" brand is the one that fails the most?
  10. I do all my load development at 300, its actually meters not yards. I'm a bit anal about accuracy, just ask Eric or Paul? My loads are worked up 1/3gr. at a time for AR's. I don't mess with length or primer as I need them to fit & feed in all my mags & rifles. I only use WSR primers as thats what I use for Major 9 and 40. load 10 of each. Drive 7 minutes to the range and shoot 5 at a time into a group then switch targets for another load group. After each 5 shot group is shot, I go back and put 5 more on paper with each load in reverse. This gives me ten shot groups that are affected by wind, barrel heating and eye strain. These 10 shot groups give me lots of information on grouping, consistency, wind, and barrel heating. Enabling me to see vertical stinging=harmonic inconsistency, and horizontal stringing=wind and load. I also throw my charges for load development. Its backward, but it seems the inconsistency of the thrown charges helps me find the best barrel frequency, and tells me what my loads will do under match and weather conditions.
  11. Until you have worked up a load for that specific barrels harmonics, a single load and bullet don't mean much. I was able to get 300 yard 3/4" 10 shot groups out of 77gr. SMK's but only 1.5" out of 75gr. Hornadys. Above and below the curve, I got mixed results. Takes lots of loads and testing to find whats perfect for your rifle. And that perfect consistent load will change depending on temperature, phase of the moon ext.
  12. I bet the new guy is right. Welcome to the forum.
  13. Don't understand that one? Even though I used to live in Phoenix I still think its a pit. USPSA big dogs in mass at local matches, advantage Phoenix. Nice mowed grass shooting ranges in quantity, advantage Florida. Weather, advantage Florida. Gun laws, slight advantage Florida. Sheriff, definite advantage Phoenix. Rio is still facing some major land use problems and the builders are petitioning again. Look at club match results and # of clubs listing outdoor matches at different ranges and you will see there are quite a few nice areas. What is surprising is how few matches and ranges there are in places like Dallas, Vegas ext. Beware of builders influencing city councils.
  14. Thats what I want, self reseting mini poppers at 500 yards.
  15. If the FFL/gunshop I am shipping to for transfer wont supply me with a fax or copy of the FFL, the transfer wont happen. This is based on talking with the ATF. How do you know it really is an FFL you are shipping to? As a private citizen you don't have to ship FFL to FFL, you can verify and ship direct to an FFL. Face to face is based on the state, and the type of firearm. Note an Open gun or Limited gun can be called an assault pistol in some states. The FFL does not collect sales tax on transfers. Thats a scam some dealers run, check for yourself.
  16. Bill drills through a barrel with an open gun.
  17. That is the weekend for Port Malibar's match. An easy 60 mile drive from the Orlando Airport. And well worth it as they put on a good match. http://www.pmrpc.com/about.html Should be a good match as its the weekend before Area 6.
  18. +1 Is GSSF "REALLY" a competition????
  19. You have to respect Tupperware that works. I respect mine. Don't really like, but do respect. Still think my Open gun is more Tactical.
