  1. Just to change it up a little...... I am intrigued by the post a few up from here. Has anybody mastered flipping and catching from an AR and a shotgun? Video entries only please.
  2. The lifter being welded won't affect reliability unless something went way wrong in the process. The fork is for guiding shells in, nothing else. Once you get them in the gun, that part doesn't play much, if any, roll.
  3. Agree with above. 9mm in a 2011 is tame, especially if you load for it to be so. The eagle will be fine. I think that the issue will be locating one. They aren't everywhere like a 40 would be.
  4. IMO the others won't be a major factor until gunsmiths start to prefer their frames. They know STI parts and while they aren't perfect, the smiths have experience with them and know where the problems are and how to correctly address them. I don't see a big contingency of smiths deciding to switch without some very big benefits.
  5. The slides are the same on a 2011 vs. a 1911. The only thing that STI and SVI have in common is the slide, and they both copied that from JMB. The frames are completely different animals. Sure, they thought that the double stack mag was a good idea and did that, but that is the only thing that anybody copied...the idea. The execution is completely different.
  6. From what I see, there are more people who "woke up as pros" in three gun than USPSA. Not to take anything away from you, Pat.
  7. Nope It actually has a black grip now. This was early on. It is far and above anything else I have ever shot or handled. As far as beauty, it is one to me.
  8. Are you sure the slide stop was through the link? If the link is at the top and the slide stop goes in the barrel won't unlock and it will do what you described.
  9. I am admittedly a little "nationals ignorant" but am I to understand that in 2013 you have the option to shoot both limited and open, (and production) and in 2014 you will have to choose between the three? If that is the case then I am against the change. If you can get a slot into all three, then you should be able to compete in all three. Oh, and keep Eric Grauffel out. We don't need him coming over here and beating us in EVERY division.
  10. I understand the questions here and I am going to be right up front. The purpose of my post is not to answer the question, rather to simply to ask a few questions that may help shooters not get into this situation again. What was the point of weighting the box? Does a weighted box make a fundamental difference in the difficulty of the stage? Why not just use a bowling ball or something that starts off heavy if that is what you are after? From a stage design standpoint, if you know that your club has a membership that games things to this level, then you have to take at into consideration when using props like this. If you want a prop that must be moved, either realize at the weight of said prop makes very little fundamental difference, or use something that cannot be tampered with. At my club, I would either put it into the wsb that the weight is integral, or not use it at all. We have a pretty laid back membership that would look at a situation like a box full of rocks as a stage prop and understand that the rocks were put there on purpose and leave the crap alone. I would hate to be a stage designer at a club like yours if it really is as bad as it sounds here. The simple discussion of rules to this minute level is why I am one of the ones referenced in the other thread about why USPSA shooters are leaving and going to 3-gun.
  11. Great. I was counting in Speedy getting bumped at this match. Oh well, guess I have to keep getting beat by him for a little while longer.
  12. I like an adjustable gas block. I have gone to all SJC comps on my guns. I really like them.
  13. So you are shooting 9mm in a 40 slide? Different breech face, or same?
  14. I am getting really pumped. I am going to have to start working up my rifle loads soon.....
  15. I am trading 6-8 big pistol matches next year for 4-5 big 3 gun matches. I really liked the two 3 gun matches that I have been to and I feel like there is plenty of room to shine over there. From what I have seen, the good 3 gunners have a weakness when it comes to pistol. I have the pistol part down pretty good, so I am going to work on the other two and hopefully kick some butt over there next year.
  16. I would bet that the fit won't be exactly right with both of them. They are nearly identical, but if one is .001 too tight, then it may as well be a glock slide. it won't work. Buy the parts and haver a smith fit you a new top end. It isn't a really big deal. I probably have less than $1K in the second slide. I have an edge that has been chopped on and a 9mm slide built for it as well. I probably have more in the gun than I'll ever get back, but it is exactly what I want.
  17. If you plan to provide all the parts, make sure that you choose a smith and make sure that he agrees with the choices in parts. I picked my own parts (against the smith's wishes) and ended up having them swapped out for his picks to get the gun to 100%. I should have listened to him in the first place. My guess would be $1500 or so if they are supplying everything and assuming that you aren't wanting anything crazy.
  18. A bit of a thread drift here, but would you mind explaining how exactly a barrel is air gauged? I have heard the term before, and I looked it up on wiki, but I am still a little fuzzy as to how it works with a barrel to determine straightness. Would a slight bend in a barrel as large as 12 gauge, be enough to make a measurable difference in back pressure???? or am I understanding it all wrong? Thanks in advance. Feel free to pm me or move this to a new thread if posting this question here is out of line.
  19. I swapped parts around one time. Took a pile of hammers, sears, and disconnectors and ended up with a 1.5lb trigger in one gun. The safety didn't work at all, but it was easier to swap safeties than to try and recreate a 1.5 lb trigger.
  20. 8.0 of autocomp is my favorite. I tried HS-6 and went back to AC.....quickly.
  21. You could add walls, props, paper targets, and make the shooting area bigger.......
  22. If you are needing batteries more than once it twice a year, you probably need a new module. A bad one will eat batteries quickly. I turn mine off. Always have. I have shot only one stage with it off though. It was raining and I was making ready really quickly is as not to get water on the lens. Normal make ready procedure, never forget it. I have shot stages with the dot off on purpose though. Dean Makkos taught me that. On a hoser stage, the dot slows me down. Brown in the round and hose!
