  1. I have replaced all of mine with the split ones from hornady. They are the best IMHO.
  2. This is a question of feel. The timing of a gun recoiling is twice as fast as even the fastest split I have ever witnessed. You simply aren't going to outrun the slide. That extra quarter inch may make a difference in the feel of the gun though. That is simply not something that we can quantify for anybody other than ourselves. If you can't try one out beforehand, them I would pass on it. 9mm is so anemic in a 2011 anyway.
  3. While the physics support your ideas that the recoil would take longer, please watch lesgar's videos and tell me that you actually think his splits need to/could be faster.
  4. The primary arms one seems to be getting a lot of good reviews on here. I just built an ar out of all the takeoff parts that I had laying around an my plan is to go with that scope and use it as a backup.
  5. These threads crack me up. Everybody votes for their favorite and the op is no better off than when he started. I have guns from a lot of those listed on this thread. All are good, some required a little more work than others to get there. There is only one that I would recommed running, not walking, away from. If you want to know who and why, PM me. I will be glad to share my recommendations there as well. Almost all listed here will give you a good gun.
  6. I used the progressive system on a stock 22-250 rem 700 and it helped with cleaning of the barrel, didn't affect accuracy though.
  7. Oh well. I guess I can consider myself lucky to have ONE.
  8. Glad to hear they helped you out. Not surprised though. Good people.
  9. +1 I've decided that life is too short to shoot non-carmonized revolvers. Whatchu gonna do about that???
  10. I also have a carbonized v comp. I love it. It is heavy, but I'm not a little girl so it doesn't bother me. Speaking of little girls, doesn't Julie shoot one? I'm pretty sure it has been lightened, but still.....
  11. You may end up spending more than that if you end up buying two because the first one sux. I have heard nothing but good things about the primary arms one though.
  12. I typically use MDF for a top with white formica for a counter top. It brightens everything up and I can make notes on the formica with a pencil and it cleans right up with clorox cleanup. Than being said, I would stain yours since you already have the maple ply. The MDF/Formica solution would probably be cheaper than maple ply for the next one.
  13. I started with upright, went to sideways, now back to upright with a cmore RSR. That progression was over about 5 years. I like sideways or RSR the best.
  14. Depends upon the bullet. Conventional wisdom says to use a slow powder with lighter bullets and fast powder with heavy bullets. I have used n320 with everything from 155's to 200's with great success.
  15. You may be better off to find a powder that is in stock and work up a load for it. Google "powder burn rates" and just pick something close to solo 1000.
  16. Can someone smarter than me explain how forged is stronger than billet? I have never heard that and would love to know the details. Sorry Pat....
  17. I would list solo 1000 as an alternative powder to start with. It and tightgroup are for when you can't find N320. N320 being the gold standard for 40. I use it for 9 minor, 40 and 45. It is almost a "everything" powder.
  18. I built one with that configuration a while back. The dissipator fits.
  19. The slippery slope there is that they don't allow larger that 7 round mags anywhere……because that is all some states allow. Sorry, bud, I don't see that one happening. In all seriousness, an SBR is only an advantage in the pro-series type matches where the distance is limited. I guarantee you that if they threw in some 300-500 yard shots, Horner would go with his longer rifle and still kick butt. You could always move to Texas.
  20. I agree with Chris. S & W makes great revolvers……in small quantities. A 625 is a great gun for more than just competing with. I shot a deer a few years ago just to prove that I could. I have a few of the good ones and I wish I had more but I keep getting these packages from Akai with invoices inside that keep my gun fund to a minimum. Don't sell it.
  21. I don't know the answer to this question, but I have a "don't do this example" Last three gun match - shots all the way out to 485. I hit them pretty much one for one even the 435 yard one in 65 seconds. Two reloads and a total time of 145 seconds later, I hit the last one at 480 and I think it was a gimmie by the RO. Did I mention that it was with my blackout shooting HO? I honestly thought that it would be the next shot that would hit. My dope was on, I was prone, the trigger pull was good. I think the wind was doing things down range. I should have quit after three-four rounds. I still would have had the best time on my squad.
  22. .6 lbs trigger????? This one is for 9minor loads only?
