We shoot over 6K per year of AA's Best cheap ammo out there, in the past 3 years we've had 1 failure , bad primer. Consistent load, stiff hull, always go bang. Winchester Universal on the other hand . . . . . . The only way I I would shoot them, was if they were free - then only in practice.

What is the best steak for 3-gun?
toothandnail replied to ericm's topic in Multi-gun Gear & Accessories
I'll be the first to say, I've never had what I would call an EXCELLENT steak, 95% of them whatever size you cut with the knife is the size you swallow Seems the higher the price the worse it is.(never paid over $35.00 for one) I've had some that TASTED great, just didn't chew very well. I'll take a pork chop/pork steak anyday -
JP tank brake.

Is it fair to require USPSA shooters to go prone?

How do you carry your 12ga magazines? (VEPR, Saiga, etc.)
toothandnail replied to EDA's topic in Multi-gun Gear & Accessories
I shoot with a MKA with either a 24 or 28 round mag, very seldom need another mag. Also have a Kydex drop leg that will hold anything from a 10 - 24 sometimes I'll carry an, OH CRAP ! mag on a belt clip. -
mine 9mm minor ( 3gun) JPoint CD 1moa 65 moa circle Silicone Carbide 30 grit flat trigger - working on a new design hopefully testing soon

JP Tank Brake , 16" barrel. My son's rifle - same ammo, brake, and barrel(except his is 18") has almost zero fireball. accuracy is really close, with his having a slight edge. Almost too close to call

heart rate monitor, anyone tried this?
toothandnail replied to docscoutjr's topic in Training Techniques
Have a buddy who - was having heart problems , they put him on some mobile device that monitored and sent them real time data. They told him to do his normal activities He came to shoot a match, they called him 3 times during the match, telling him his heart rate was too high The 3rd time(3rd stage) they said, "we don't know what you are doing today, but STOP whatever it is." -
A couple of mine.

How thick is H&M Black Nitride?
toothandnail replied to kneelingatlas's topic in General Gunsmithing
I don't know if it adds anything, pretty sure it doesn't. The 2011's we send off are tight, working perfect, come back, assemble and shoot, no noticeable change in function. -
Not a DQ but, once i got 30 seconds of penalties for foot being out of the shooters box, I knew it was a BS call, and video showed otherwise. Called the RM, told him it was a bad call, he asked which RO, told him, he didn't even want to see the video, removed the penalties. He had already had many similar complaints about that RO, Unfortunately he didn't have a replacement, but assured us that RO would never be back at his match.

What's the hot setup for 2011 mags these days?

Farley also invented that but it's called the Irish plate rack. Interesting, hadn't ever seen any before, we have had the idea for years just never had the time to build any until recently

No Polish, but we build an Amish plate rack, and Deathstar. Here is a demo of both.

wgj3, I agree 100% with your first paragraph, that's the way we run our matches, slung rifle is a stick, becomes a rifle when the shooter has a the rifle in one hand and a mag in the other. 180/DQ applies when the mag and rifle (in hand) get within 1 foot of each other. If it's past the 180 when both are in hand , a warning, then if the 1' comes into play, DQ Curious how USPSA multi-gun handles going prone with a holstered pistol ? Is that an illegal stage?
-
Big mags small mags make almost no difference in how the gun handles, it stays pretty well balanced. Our new 28 round mag is getting on the heavy side. As for stage times, it really depends on who/how the target arrays are laid out. If there are arrays of 12 or less with several feet of movement before the next, both are close to the same speed. If you have an all SG stage with continuous presentation of targets, mag fed will dominate.

Yes, we can , we are finishing up about 3 full 2011 builds over the next few days, but that would not be a problem doing some work for you.

So what is the "upgraded version" and at what price point ? Still under the $1k point that draws folks to it ? Probably in it's lowest price form , just an upgraded trigger and minor tweaking. Should be under or close the $1K . After that there will be a few other options, additional mags, undercut trigger guard, slide cuts, RDS cut/install, etc. If somebody wants to go crazy on slide cuts or RDS it will obviously get over the $1K. We have one about finished. Haven't had time to pencil it all out yet but it will be a good starter gun for some one on a tighter budget.

We have 3 of the 9mmx50 round drums available, $42.00 + shipping. They are not listed on our website. Many PPC's will need the bottom of the bolt milled out a bit for clearance(or trim the mag) Depending on your bolt
-
We will soon be offering an upgraded version of the Rock Island "2011" , looks to be a good alternative for those wanting a 2011 style gun on a tighter budget.

I have 2 Glock 33's 1 is 100% , 1 I get stove pipes and light strikes. Also have a 50 rnd drum runs 100% with my G17, not so good with my PCC

Actually it's 1 year, you break it we fix/replace it. My son and I both have well over 10K through our guns, hardly, if ever, have any type of malfunction. As with any mag fed gun - pistol, rifle, or SG the mags are what makes or breaks the running of the gun. Ammo is the second, find the ammo that works best and stick with it. My gun will run everything from Winchester Universal to the top of the line stuff. My son's will have a few FTE's with the Universal and other similar junk ammo. It's surprising how many calls we get, " My gun runs ammo X, Y, & Z perfectly, but has some failures on ammo U, I want to use U because it's cheap. What can I do to use ammo U?" Mag tuning is pretty easy once you understand some basic things to look for. Guys are used to 2011 mags needing tuning, SG mags are along the same line, the bigger the mag the less error there is for bad feed lip specs. That said we are testing a 28 round mag, looks pretty promising so far. The drum mag not so much Seems like the Open/Unlimited Division is a growing division, just shipped out 3 complete setups today.
