  1. We have an all shotgun state level match every year (5th annual coming up this Sept).. We used to offer Open, Limited, Manual, Field, and Cowboy.. I could never get more than 1 or two cowboys so this year I ditched that div.. The field Div is nice for people who don't have a lot of gear.. the usual things like dump pouches, one side saddle of 6 rds or less, and a shell belt are the legal means for reloading.. The div is based on a Mossberg 500's 5+1 capacity with the mag block removed.. Remington 870's, 1100's, auto-5's and 11-87's were common.. they were basically field guns with no plug.. Manual is what it sounds like.. pump gun, min 20 ga.. long tube and loaded same as in Limited.. Limited is well, long tube, load 2/4, 4, 6, or 8 pack caddies... and no comps/box magazines/bipods Open is... well.. open.. speed sticks or mags... comps, optics, ports, whatever.. It's nice to hear other people in other parts of the country are offering something like that.. My match is the 2nd weekend in September.. After the Dove season opener and a month before the duck season opener.. (I'm a duck hunter mostly, and why Oct/Nov wouldn't work for me). Might want to consider the field division to attract a few more people.. most shooters out here shoot in Limited.
  2. Was exclusive with Revolver up till NW regional.. now shooting Open while I still can in this Godforsaken screwed up state that's about to ban hi-caps for good.
  3. One I haven't seen mention yet (or maybe I skimmed over too fast) was Winchester 572.. I've been working with it in 38 Super 7.1 gr with a 124 Bayou.. It is supposed to be a denser version of the discontinued SR4756.. There looks to be enough room in the super that tends to make me think it would work with a long 9 major..at 7.1 gr I'm getting about 1340 fps..
  4. Curious what the difference is between a Tactical and Limited Shotgun is? I thought they were sort of the same animal? Or is Limited actually "Manual".
  5. This is a gravel base.. so all of the solutions beyond picking it up directly would not work.. Richmond is unfortunately on basically Bay mud.. so every few years we dump gravel on top only to have it sink... (several truck loads). This has turned into a discussion... Moderator?
  6. Only to have lazy competitors not police their brass after shooting at the club match... Yeah, we have signs up everywhere saying to "Pick up your brass"... One squad figured that they didn't have to police their brass and they left a mess.. We may as well let it accumulate so we can run on marbles again in short order.. I'm tired of the lazy shade seeking jerks who need to better police themselves and the brass they leave everywhere.. :angry2:
  7. PV has Fiocchi SPP's for $36/1500.. same price as the S&B's were before there weren't anymore.. You can generally make any powder work if there is a shortage.. the one thing I would focus on is Primers.. without Primers.. powder, brass, and bullets are useless.
  8. When I was loading for my 610 I didn't notice any difference in the ability to light off 200's compared to 100's. My 610 has a light hammer spring and the whole thing is tuned for JUST Federal primers.. In 40 S&W I also did not see much difference in pressure and could substitute one for the other without too much variance using either light or standard weight lead bullets (140's, 160's, or 185's). Switch to my 627 in 38 super and while I was able to light them all off just fine, I found that with the load I was using (4.2 gr Herco - 147 extremes or coated lead bullets) I found that magnum primers would sometimes produce sticky case extraction where the standard primers did not. Something WAS happening there that I didn't experience in the 40 S&W.. it sort of took me by surprise. I haven't yet tried to sub Magnums for standard in my 929 but I suspect there might be the same effect as the 627 since the 9mm has even less capacity than the 38 super.. so it may be a case volume issue.
  9. One more addition.. I was able to drop my powder charge using Black & Blue coated 147 RN's.. My load: Starline 9mm brass 3.7 gr Alliant Herco 147 BnB RN sized .357 (mine were the red coating) Federal Standard #100 SPP I chrono'd 128 at home.. and when I went to Vegas in February for the Bad beat Challenge, I also chrono'd there at 128 PF.
  10. It has been reported over on another forum that the new Winchester 572 was supposed to be a somewhat direct replacement for SR4756.. I've tried it in 28 gauge shotshells with good luck and have yet to experiment in 38 super..
  11. Gamaliel Shooter's supply claims to have some of the AP custom 3x3 loaders and the classic load 4's and some other stuff, Look in the clearance section of their website if you absolutely must have some of the racks,,
  12. I got mine in the middle of last year from another local shooter who didn't want to load specifically for the 929.. I've put probably 5000 rds through it since last year and absolutely love it.. I had a friend take a bit of spring pressure out of the crane ball and that's all the work I've done to it. It seems to point like a laser under 25 yards.. and like a high power hose past that (if I actually aim, I can hit targets). I had a little sticky extraction with fast powders.. I switched to a slower powder and that all went away..
  13. The issue about a match hotel in the area is that Richmond isn't exactly known for it's great hotels.. I've used the Courtyard by Marriot once or twice.. it's in about the best place in Richmond to get a room.. I've not dealt with the Holiday inn express in San Pablo and the rest of the chain hotels in the area tend to be old/tired and not that great. Thoughts? $80 locally is going to get you Motel 6 which is sketchy at best.. If I can get a good group rate at the Courtyard by Marriot, I'm thinking it'll be in the $130/night range.. but until I call and get a block of rooms, I'm uncertain on the price. One alternative is that if you have an RV or a trailer, we allow camping on the property and have a few places we can hook up for electricity. You'll need to contact me ahead of time so I know how many to expect.
  14. Same 610 I've been shooting for years in Limited division.. same basic setup I've always used.. RIMZ moons, 40 S&W brass.. 158 or 185 Cast LRN.. whichever I have more cast at the time..
  15. Mods please add 2016 California Action Shotgun Challenge Sept 10-11, 2016. Richmond, CA. Details to follow as they develop. Sept 10 - Staff and overflow Sept 11 - General match
  16. The ICORE NW Regional will be held at the Richmond Hot Wheels (aka Richmond Hot Shots) range in Richmond, CA on May 21, 2016. It will be an 8 stage match, registration and squadding will open on January 1st at 10 am on Practiscore. Match fee is $80. We will have 5 field stages, 1 classifier, and 2 all steel stages. Any questions, email the MD via the Practiscore web site. On another note... and I know this is not specifically Revolver related.. We have two other matches happening that weekend. We're also doing a Pistol/Pistol caliber carbine match the evening following the NW regional using time plus points scoring and a Single Stack only USPSA match on Sunday re-utilizing the 5 stages on the action range (with some tweaks and target changeovers). One of the MD's is talking about coming up with a patch for the few die hard shooters who shoot all three matches. Both of those matches are listed on practiscore and have limited room. If you want to fill your weekend with three matches at the same range.. this would be the place to do it. As usual we are looking for stage builders for the Friday Build out. There will be match fee compensation(s).
  17. Oddly enough, the Federal 100's I tested all made 134 PF with an 8 rd average.. I had some Gold medal match SPP's and decided to try them... My average was 131, with a high of 141 and a low of 118... this with X-treme 147 RN sized .357 in a 5.5" 627-4 in 38 Super. Starline brass. Fed SPP's give me a 134 PF with max 142 and min 129.. so I'm not sure where that 118 came from if they are in fact the same..
  18. re: 929 loading.. I tried 3.4, 3.6, and 3.8 of Herco with X-treme Plated .357" - 147 gr RN bullets.. Average of 8 rounds. I got avg of 107, 117, and 124 PF.. I figure the next thing I try will be 3.9 and 4.0. Min and Max PF on the 3.8 was 121 and 127.. so the 3.9 or 4.0 will likely be about perfect. I currently use 4.5 gr of Herco with the shorter barreled (5.5") and slightly longer cased 38 Super 627-4.. that gives me an avg PF of 134 PF with 129 Min and 142 Max.. average of 8 shots. I could probably go down to 4.3 but risk going minor PF on one or two rounds.. I get no sticky cases at all and it fills the case pretty well. I used Federal standard small pistol primers for both loads.
  19. Well, I am in.. so far.. though I might have to bow out if.. opportunity knocks.. I'd really like to be there for the first IRC outside Morro Bay, but that opportunity might throw me for a loop.. time will tell..
  20. I've read that N340 is similar in burn speed to Alliant Herco.. sort of slower on the charts..
  21. I recall that in years past, any time I fired a primer in a primed case in a revolver, it would lock up the cylinder.. Once I loaded the ammo, the primer fired as I expected and did not back out. This seemed to hold true for my 610 (either 10 mm or 40 S&W), a GP100 with 38's.. and even a model 31-2 in 32 S&W long..
  22. It seems that HS6 while it is not ideal for cast bullets or even for 9mm in a semi-auto pistol (unless you shoot 9 major).. Where it comes to shine might be when loading for a revolver (S&W 929). I've been loading for the 38 super 627 and powders that worked well in a semi-auto do not seem to work well in the 627 since you are extracting 8 cartridges at once from 8 cylinders.. The extractor claw and the weight of the slide can remove one round at a time froma semi-auto, but I found all of the fast burning powders to create a situation of sticky extraction. After trying several slower burners (SR 7625, SR 4756, Accurate #5) with the 147 gr Extremes and 130 gr Cast that I make up, I'm finding 4.5 gr of Herco to be perfect for the 147 and 4.8 gr of Herco to be good for the 130's.. HS6 might work okay if it is not position sensitive. It seems I will be on a new quest to find what the 929 likes..
  23. I'd be happy to have sort of our own Limited 6 division.. I've shot the IRC both ways and actually do better shooting the 610 over the 627... I've shot the IRC for many years with the 6 shooter and won the 6 shooter category once or twice.. Having a whole division would be nice.
