  1. Not sure why you'd treat them as separate powders... if they are the same lot, they likely came out of the same 60 pound barrel..
  2. Lifting the 6 round neutral stage limit would effectively make ICORE back into USPSA which kind of negates the whole idea of ICORE in the first place. I think we should stick with the 6 round neutral stage limit.. if you want to shoot 8 rounds, shoot L10-minor or production with your 8 shooter in USPSA. Generally there are stages that can be shot with a little bit of disaster factor to save a reload in an 8 shooter.. but to deliberately make stages over 6 round neutral, I think personally, is a bad idea.
  3. For me it seems that the older manufactured CCI's gave me fits but the new ones work fine.. I've not had any trouble with the following. Federal Winchester Remington Wolf Tula PMC New CCI's
  4. All I know is that I have faster recovery when shooting minor.. I know the load, I don't have to change anything and I've managed somehow to make "A" doing so... maybe statistically it would be better, but in the long run I'd probably do worse due to wear and tear on my hands/wrists.. I had a chrono man make a comment about how "unfair" my revo/load were since the gun hardly moves...
  5. What if we shoot all alphas 90% of the time? To me is all boils down to knowing your load, knowing your gun, and being consistent. If you can do all of that, and you have confidence in your load and the way the gun shoots, minor/major doesn't seem to make as much difference since you have the confidence to make 2 alphas, 3 alphas, etc... I try not to get so much into the mind game since that usually screws me up worse than if I actually just shot the course of fire and don't worry about the little details. Trigger time beats theories more times than not..
  6. I shoot Minor in my 610 due to the gun hardly moving at all.. it also allows me to use the same loads between ICORE and USPSA.. There is something about not having to have a death grip and the fact that I can fire pretty good splits while staying on target with minor.. I think shooting major would also be detrimental to my wrists.. they are sore enough shooting minor for a match.. major would make it so bad I couldn't practice mid week.
  7. Squadding is now open. If you are registered you should have received an email telling you what your pin is. The website for squadding is http://www.uspsa.org/squadding
  8. I always used it for 40 cal minor revolver loads.. Some people report that they were unable to make major. That is how I came into the stock of Ramshot Competition a few years back. It is meant as a target load for 12 gauge shotshells so is likely in the burn rate of Clays.
  9. I tried some of that stuff in my Mini 14 and it seemed to work ok.. I have a box or two left over from then. I didn't have any problems making it work, it always went bang and always ejected.. but I only bought about 200 rounds.. Seemed like a good idea for disposable ammo..
  10. The Richmond Hotshots are hosting the Golden Bullet this year. Applications are being taken for the match. This year it will be a level II. Prizes will be order of finish per division. We are still working out the details like stages and the like, but will at some point (once they are approved) posting the stages for the match. We are still looking for stage sponsors. PM me for more info. It will be a 10 stage format with Chrono. Staff shoots on the 27th, with the balance of the shooters on the 28th and 29th in the day and a half format that we have always used. First shots are at 8a on Sat the 28th, last shots fired by Noon Sunday with prize table soon to follow. Application can be found on the Hotshots Website at http://richmondhotshots.com We are going to be a fully squadded match and you will be able to start picking your preference starting March 1st. We have about 40 shooters signed up. There are approximately 100 slots still available. I will update this thread as things develop. If you have questions, you can post to the thread or contact me via pm. I will announce sponsors as they step up. Currently for sponsors we have: Match Sponsor - Limcat Custom guns Stage Sponsor - BAM Airsoft, Irvington Arms, Bear Creek Bullets Contact me via pm for information on stage sponsorship. Hope to see ya there!
  11. I shoot a cast 185 ish Gr RN.. and am going to try out a pointy 165 ish grain bullet to see if they drop in any faster than the RN's I currently shoot.. Here they are. The 185 RN is one I asked Veral Smith to make a mold for me. It is based on a heavier .405 Jeffrey RN. The one on the left was part of a group buy of "pointy" molds made by NOE. I picked up a 40 cal - 121, 40 cal - 165, and a 38 cal - 141.
  12. There is also the die that makes 40's into 44's and 45's..
  13. King Armory has stepped up and will be the Match Sponsor for the 2012 CASC.
  14. If you are going to use some of the more goofy hulls, you may consider getting a Sizemaster.. It's a bit more outlay but it comes with a collet sizer and a primer feed and is a pretty good single stage press. I can do about 150-200 shells an hour when I'm really cranking them out. The collet sizer is especially nice if you load for more than 1 shotgun. I think new they are about $200 but you can sometimes find them cheaper.. They are good solid presses.. I have had my 12 gauge sizemaster for over 20 years.. I have three gauges.. 10, 12, and 20. I use the 10 primarily for loading hunting ammo. I haven't shot the 20 much so the 20 ga press has sat idle for a while.
  15. Michaels likes to cut the entire D section of targets off and leaves the 1/4" border on the C zone part of the metric target when he wants to be cute.. usually he puts these infernal things on swingers.. Sometimes I'll design a stage where the target requires a different # of rounds per target.. like 3 or 1.. it's comstock, but it throws people off..
  16. I'm just curious why you switched?
  17. I get as much as 5 gr difference using the same alloy and the same mold... with a 185 gr bullet, that puts it at 2.7% tolerance. The way I am casting, the way the lead comes out of the pot, whether the mold is at operating temp, or the lead is at the right temperature all weigh in with how the weight tolerance is. If I get proper fillout, then they will tighten down a bit, but if I get them within + or - 1 gr, I'm happy. At the distances we shoot, and the large targets we shoot (8" plate, or an A zone) the weight variance really doesn't mean that much. I'll weigh my bullets to be within about a .5 gr tolerance + or - when I am getting my ammo chrono'd, but for usual match play where no one checks pf and the like, I shoot the lower tolerance stuff since it pretty much all shoots the same. I find that if the regular tolerance stuff shoots well normally, when I go shoot the bigger matches, the ammo will be slightly more accurate due to my tighter tolerances held.. If there were no chrono though, I wouldn't sweat a + or - 2.5 gr weight. The targets can't tell the difference.. I read a post on another forum of a caster who segregated all of his bullets, and loaded (what he thought) were the tightest tolerance bullets, weight wise. He shot them for groups and came up with some really small group sizes.. When he went back home he was curious about the leftover bullets.. after re-weighing them, he discovered that he had loaded the rejects and the re-weighed bullets were the tighter tolerance ones. At that point he stopped worrying about a few gr here or there.
  18. We are up to 26 competitors... match capacity is about 75... give or take.. we have some nice sponsors in the works but nothing set in stone.. so we are still looking for stage sponsors.. contact me via pm if interested..
  19. If the stage allows it, I try to barricade the gun but shoot DA only.. when I shoot the standards, I practice DA and do fairly well (IMO).. the last time I scored in the mid-20's.. with the regular standards, I can usually manage anywhere from the 22-40 range..
  20. I'm assuming this is IDPA? We had a ruling from the HQ that you had to shoot what was stamped on the gun and couldn't "game" loading shorter cases into 38 spl/357 guns.. We had a gent try to shoot the short colts in a K frame gun and was told he had to use 38 spl's..
  21. We regularly have anywhere from 60-90 shooters at our club level match.. 25% added to that would be detrimental and make for very long days as we only have 5 shooting bays.. I shot that stage and while I grumbled a little bit, it was fun to shoot.. legal, illegal, oh well.. too late to throw it out now.. Yes, they could have snow fenced it off completely thereby making it completely blocked off.. or you shoot it through the buckets and make your A hits and move along.. I guess I could have argued the procedural when I took a shot outside the bucket, but then, I've already signed my score sheet.. too late for that now.. If/when you come to our matches, you can tell us how/what is legal/illegal, and if that's the case, we'll toss the stage.. at the time, no one argued it, they shot, and we had a fun match.. We've been lucky (unlucky?) in that it hasn't rained appreciably in months, which is bad for the water storage but awesome for range days.. Until then, I'll inform the masses at our range that such a stage will from now on be deemed illegal, unless there are less than 25 rounds.. happy?
  22. Eh.. Safariland 002 Cup holster.. 610, 627, 686.. it fits them all..
  23. I've never had any issue with my Gold and Federal anything shells.. is the gun clean? They aren't like Benelli's and do need a good strip down cleaning now and then.. I've heard of the firing pin issues, but that was supposedly on the earlier models.. I've had mine over 10 years and have the original pin.
  24. Our club has started a "safe multi-gunner" class that is monthly.. It is part classroom and part live fire. It is limited to 12 students and costs a nominal fee ($25). The student, once approved and deemed instructed then gets to participate in the multi gun practices and matches that we hold at our club. This also allows them to shoot on the action range in general. We have a requirement that you must either be a classified participant in one of the known shooting sports (USPSA, IDPA, ICORE, SASS, Steel Challenge) or you must complete either our safe multi-gunner class or our safe handgun competitor class to shoot on the action range and participate at our matches. Since we've started offering these safety classes, we're getting fewer incidents with new shooters being uninformed on safety. We also know who runs safety classes in the other area clubs and they are mostly run to the same standards with some of the same people. Anyone is welcome to check our web site for information on these classes.. Look up Richmond Hotshots on the web.
  25. Yep.. that would be field.. It seems that everyone has a field gun (standard 870 or Mossy 500). It's the division for people without a lot of gear that still want to play. That's also why I'm restricting that division to dump pouches, hunting type vest pockets, and the like.. The sweet 16 would be more than welcome.. remove the plug and I think it's a 4+1 capacity.. someone asked about using a Beretta A303 which is a 3+1 endeavor.. Mostly I'm trying to get some of the people who are not specifically 3 gun shooters over into the match. Our club has a lot of shotgunners but not all of them play the action game, this would be a good vehicle to give them a taste using equipment they likely already own. I've run the match on a local level for the last couple of years and I usually get a handfull of people in Field and Cowboy. I'm debating shooting my non-extended mag tube Gold in Field for the match. I've seen a local shooter run a Mossy 500 that placed 3rd overall in a shotgun match of about 35 ppl.. so it could be one of the three allowable divisions.. I have an 870 with a +6 tube that could put me into Limited or open if I put optics on it.. Note that if you have a sg with a very long mag tube, open starts with 10+1 but can go full capacity after the buzzer.. same goes for Limited.. 8+1 to start, load to full cap after that.
