  1. My brother was getting around 3150 with 55gr vmax out of his 18" jp with 25.5gr of benchmark I believe. Can't remember exactly what his load was though so I'll see if I can get him to chime in.
  2. I ran some HS6 through a Glock Open gun doing some testing and had pretty good luck. I ran 7.5-8g behind a 124 MG CMJ at 1.14ish and was around 1350 if I recall correctly. I really didn't think it was that dirty and shot pretty nice at the upper charges.
  3. Anyone ever tried this with a STI widebody grip? Is there even enough material to do it? Might just have to investigate that this weekend while doing some other hacking on the Limited gun.
  4. I've finally gotten around to getting most of the video we shot from the 2011 MGM Ironman posted on our YouTube Channel...RBros Rifles YouTube Channel. Also, all the pictures that we took are up on our website...MGM Ironman We had a great time at the match and were very pleased with how our equipment ran. We sort of use these matches as a testing ground and all the custom (prototype) guns ran without a hitch and the only problem I had was an occasional hangup with my factory SLP catching shells on the 3 o'clock area of the chamber. Thanks to everyone that had a part in putting this match on and thanks to 3-Gun Nation for having the Team Shootoff where I was selected to shoot and our team won netting me $500! Oh, and yes I know we are slow.....we're new to this game and are still learning so keep that in mind while watching the videos.
  5. I've not had that large of ES's with TAC, but I've heard of folks that do. I give mine a fairly healthy bit of neck tension and/or crimp though which I've heard tends to calm down the wild ES numbers. If you think about it though, even with 100fps ES, a 77gr SMK at 500yds only changes POI by around 7.5" and you're unlikely to get those kind of ES numbers. If you're seeing large ES/SD's with TAC though, try giving it a bit of crimp with a Lee factory crimp die and see what happens.
  6. Give TAC a shot. I've used it with both 53g and 77g pills with good results.
  7. Dawson makes a specific front sight for the Spartan so if you don't find your answer just give them a call and they'll likely be able to help you out. Who knows why they finish the barrels like they do, it does make them clean up easier though:)
  8. Anyone know if I can just bring my 4wheeler to pack all my gear on? Would be way easier:)
  9. I don't see why you couldn't. I use the Dillon .223 dies in my Rockchucker to size before I load on my 550.
  10. I actually full length size every time and bump the shoulder a couple thousandths for what it's worth. Reliability and ease of chambering is the reason....when in a competition I don't like my ammo to drag when I'm chambering a round. It's just one less thing to through me off and one more aid to speed things up.
  11. Our standard loading setup for PR is a single stage RCBS press, RCBS hand primer, and RCBS Chargemaster. Generally use either Redding or Forster dies and always size, chamfer/debur new cases. Just some food for thought.
  12. Assuming that your C should be a G.....I'd steer clear of that for making hot 9mm loads. Try some HS-6 with those 124s you have and you should be able to get up in the 160 range pretty easily/safely.
  13. The last one I made for a rifle match was two halves that were 4'x8' and hinged along the long side so it was 4' tall and 8' wide (team event). I put a 2x4 along the bottom for a foot-hold and it was very challenging for people of all heights to shoot from yet still fun. For the next go-round I may take the two halves and hinge them on the short side so that you have to "climb" it to shoot off the top and will likely put treads every 1' for the bottom 4' of it to accomodate varying heights of shooters.
  14. I settled on 3.9g of Titegroup with a 124 MG CMJ at 1.14 with my Spartan. it is safely above the minimum PF and appears to be very accurate. Ended up having to shoot a 3gun match with it a couple weeks ago and it worked really well.
  15. Just wanted to say thanks to Carl and everyone who helped make this match happen. I've always heard great things about this match and was definitely not disappointed. Well, my shooting performance was a little disappointing, but not too bad for my first 3gun I suppose. Ended up like 29th or something in Scoped Tactical mostly due to my poor shotgun reloading skills and the fact that I was shooting a single stack since my Tripp rear sight didn't arrive in time for my double stack STI. Oh well, it was fun and I learned some stuff, that's all that matters!
  16. I'd say Swarovski or Leica if money isn't a problem. Otherwise look into the kowa or Leupold
  17. We just had this little competition here in one of the local school districts. As part of it, the kids came and visited our surveying/engineering firm as well as the neighboring competitor and had to fill out a little questionnaire for each office. Afterward we had a little friendly competition between the two companies with the egg drop container designs.....from a 30' man lift. Lots of good ways to go about it, mine was basically a suspension setup and it easily survived the fall
  18. I ran 7.8gr of HS6 under a 124 MG JHP and got around 167pf out of a G17 KKM barrel and Jager Comp.
  19. My $0.02 here...I think that the Open division should be major power factor only and use minor power factor scoring. After all, it's supposed to be the highest level of shooters and equipment so why not make it harder?
  20. That's definitely not the norm. I've bought three of them now and all three were tighter than 90% of the 1911s I played with at SHOT this year.
  21. Not so sure the words precision firearm apply to a Glock..............so go for it with the Dremel! Just kidding folks I say go for it and post some results!
  22. I think a lot of folks are running the U dies on the 550. I just run the Dillon die bottomed out on the shell plate and fortunately haven't had an issue yet.
