  1. I usually get my starting information from Hodgdon's website or searching forums like this one.
  2. So I'm trying to get things together to start (re-start) some sort of action/practical/defensive pistol monthly matches at the club I belong to and need your help. Our club used to have monthly IDPA matches so we have a number of props/targets and I've been playing around with Sketchup and working on planning out the stages. My problem is that the matches will not be USPSA or IDPA, at least to start with, until we get our feet under wet so what scoring system do I go with? I have only shot one match so I'm not experienced in all the nuances of scoring and penalties and such, but I'm a pretty quick learner so I'm hoping you guys can help me get this thing off the ground. This weekend I'm planning on getting an inventory of all the target/props that we have and maybe even try to get the range drawn up in Sketchup. If you were in my position, how would you approach this task???
  3. So you are running bulk pak on which piston, and the 3" mag on which piston? I ran the bulk stuff with the light piston and the 3" slugs with the heavy one just because I didn't know if running them with the light piston would cause some damage. Remington "gun club" works like a champ and last time I ran the cheapy bulk stuff it actually ran pretty well with only a couple FTE.
  4. That just seems like one more thing to worry about but to each his own I guess. Use what works for you.
  5. I wouldn't mind having my dog's energy! He is just always 100% pumped and ready to go...never a bad day for him! It's actually a great thing to wake up to really.
  6. I run an assortment of random steel mags I've picked up for cheap and Magpul 30rd and 20rd. I prefer the Magpuls though and leave the steelies in the bag if I can.
  7. Silly question, but why do you have your mags set up not to lock the slide? I'm sort of new into a lot of this pistol competition stuff so excuse my ignorance....
  8. My guns don't really "say" anything about me......but they do laugh at me a lot I think!
  9. I have shot a bunch of the 200gr MG JFP out of my SigP220 with various powders. I loaded up the latest ones with 5.0g of Titegroup at 1.200 and they shoot really good I'm just not sure how fast they're going yet as I haven't had time to drag out the chronograph.
  10. 60gr VMax or BT loaded with Benchmark for short range stuff and 77gr SMK for longer range. Might give the 69gr SMK's a chance on the next build.
  11. Thanks for the review, I was just looking at those for my next carbine project. Will be saving this information for future use!
  12. Cabela's gift certificate and ordered frame/slide setup for new STI project:) Also got myself an early xmas present .... G34 and a bunch of reloading goodies for it!

    Winter

    Hmmm.....flip flops vs snowshoes.....
  14. Hmmmm, I wonder if they make a "personal" size 5 axis mill... Imagine the fun that would be! Pretty sure I'd never sleep, just design and build parts all the time.

    Rain

I moved away from the rain....and found myself in snow. Oh well, I'll take snow over rain any day!

    Winter

Winter definitely sucks for trying to pick up brass after shooting! All I see is little holes in the snow and a piece of brass like 6" down in the hole!
  17. Thinking that may be a little overkill but should certainly function well. I've shot the 4.4gr of Titegroup & 180 MG JHP out of my G35 and XD-SC and it's been really a fun load to shoot out of both. I'm going to be giving that 9mm load you mentioned a shot this weekend if all my supplies show up. edit...might be a little cheaper if you order directly from MG in the future.
  18. Imagine the fun one could have with that thing in a prairie dog town with the crank fire setup.
  19. Hey post back with what you come up with. I might be using my XD40-SC for a few local "CCW" type matches so I'm pretty much in the same boat as you are! My plan was to start around 4.0gr with a 180MG, but after reading this I may back it down a little.
  20. I just loaded up some 230gr XTPs for a load to carry while hunting with 8.0gr of Power Pistol and a CCI 300. Recoil wasn't too bad and it seemed to shoot pretty accurate although I honestly didn't run many of them due to lack of time.
  21. I try to keep it at .470 like others have posted.
  22. Another thought is to give TAC a try with those 77s. I've had pretty good luck running around 23.5gr and get 2750+ out of my 20" WOA 1:7. It doesn't seem to be as temperature sensitive as RL15 is.
  23. Maybe this should be sent into Mythbusters to get it all sorted out.
