  1. A good general use gun look at a 18in midweight profile barrel with a rifle preferred or maybe a midlength gas system. It's usually a good middle ground for the longer range matches as well as the close bay matches. Just don't go super heavy on the handguard as it's not much benefit going very heavy there.
  2. Run a g code holster for my 6 in 2011. I like the retention a lot better than the safariland as it seems to release the strap much easier
  3. It transfers to an heir tax free on a form 5. The big advantage to a trust is others can be in possession of the item without you there. If it's done as an individual I would leave it as such. Any time a transfer occurs without both sides having an SOT it's a tax stamp. If you sell one instate you don't go through a dealer. A form 4 is submitted along with the 200 bucks and when it's done If is mailed to seller who delivers it and the gun to buyer. If it's going out of state I has to go to a dealer in the buyers state which is 1 tax stamp and then from that dealer to the buyer which is a second. Here is a link to the info on how it works with an heir inheriting it https://www.atf.gov/press/releases/1999/09/090599-openletter-nfa-estate-transfers.html
  4. Oh you can hold a lot of HS6 in it. Have you looked at the 115s. I was loading between 8.8 and 9.2 in mine depending on the bullet and oal with oal between 1.15 and 1.17
  5. Modified cr speed is about it
  6. You can it's more the load than anything as you need to load the ammo to work the compensator. Factory ammo dosent work well as it's a fast powder. You need a slow powder and a lot of it to work the comp fully which is the same on any open gun. With the shorty it does need a little more powder and is a little more violent and may have issues making major with some of the less common powders but will make it easily with the common open powders. For the dot if it's slide mounted it's not gonna track as well as a frame mount as you have the whole thing moving in you and will take a beating if your shooting major PF ammo.
  7. In limited there is no dot to get crud all over so so it could be just as dirty
  8. I'll agree with aircooled6racer. There are a lot better powders out there for an open gun. Autocomp, and HS6 are the most common and the CFE works well too and is almost identical to autocomp. Slow powder is the way to go.
  9. Ya. Powder makes a big difference and not all powders work well with all bullets. Ever see titegroup with a fmj or even worse a lead bullet how bad it smokes. I would try a different powder and see how it goes
  10. Not said already but a good gas mask is A MUST when cutting or drilling carbon fiber. That is some nasty stuff to get in your lungs as it stays there. If you do it yourself do it safely with the proper safety equipment or have it done by someone who knows how and has the proper gear
  11. The torque loosen 3-4 times then torque to spec is needed to kinda seat the threads and make sure grease is used. Also you can try squaring/lapping the upper. I do that on all mine from the get go. I did a friends colt that just shot like crap and it was a big improvement. That's the tool I use and use valve lapping compound for the compound. http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/rifle-tools/receiver-tools/ar-15-m16-upper-receiver-lapping-tool-prod20220.aspx
  12. I'll say pick one and shoot it. It really all depends in what feel and timing you get use to. I don't think you really can test which is "better" as it's more shooter related than anything. How the gun reacts and returns is a bigger thing than how flat the gun is. I know one I the too shooters gun had been described as not very flat at all but he shoots the heck out of it
  13. Recoil spring replacement I have found depends a lot on the poundage of the spring. If it's a 9 or heavier they can go easily 5-7k rounds before replacement. If it's something like a 7 it may need changing ever 1500.
  14. I am running the black bullets which is the same coating in my open gun. 115 at major pf so roughly 1550-1560 fps without issue so minor shouldn't be an issue. At minor and 135 you may not have the gas to work the comp too well
  15. If it's locked up and and loaded with a live round in the pipe and can't be cleared on the line it's safer to just deactivate if possible especially on an auto before trying to pound a live round out For a squib only it's fine
  16. If possible clear it on the stage. In this case it should have been able to be cleared. On the stage. If not possible I would deactivate the gun which we have done on the line. By deactivate I mean remove the firing pin/striker If possible let someone knowledgeable about the gun look at it.
  17. Have you upgraded the triggers or anything on them with drop in kits? If so use the factory parts as your backups. I would say, a spare trigger spring would be the big one as well as an extra striker spring and maybe an extra extractor. Not a whole lot breaks on a glock. If its the 2 of you shooting, your backup could always be the other persons gun. Back in my glock days, my spare parts were all located in my carry gun in the car
  18. I shoot mine with the handguard on the top and on the same side of the roof angle as I am. I do use a 20 round magazine for this
  19. for that price range, primary arms would be my choice
  20. Have the new balance here as well. My suggestion would be to find a dedicated running shop and go there. They will have people who can help you pick out what you need based on your use and how you walk. The different models all fit different types of stride and how the foot hits the ground
  21. Load what works in your mags and gun. There is no best oal
  22. I have one for my open gun for uspsa and its more a place to put the thumb than anything. For 3 gun, I dont use one as I dont shoot open 3 gun and it would require a raceholster for the gun.
  23. Ya Friday looks like it may be a mess. Way it looks now the guns gonna stay home Friday and just RO
  24. If they break STI replaces it under warranty so I am not concerned
