  1. It sounded like he was referring to USPSA pistol not 3 gun as he said USPSA and 3 gun. 9mm is the way to go for a dedicated 3 gun only gun. But if your throwing in USPSA as well, Major is the way to go as the difference in mag capacity between 9mm and 40 isnt worth the lost of points for minor in uspsa.
  2. I agree 2 alpha. You got hosed the grease ring and hole definatly show 2 hits
  3. For both uspsa and 3 gun if you want to go the 1911/2011 route I would probibally go the 40 route over the 9mm as you can download the 40 to minor PF range for 3gun which dosent have pf and go major in USPSA. Another option is a glock 34, slap some magextentions, sights and a heavy magwell on and run that for 3 gun with 23+1 and no safety to worry about getting bumped off
  4. If your right handed, put your left leg forward and lean forward into it. On the shotgun, don't wait for your sights to return on target. Shoot it with a target focus. If your shooting a gas gun lighter ammo helps as well
  5. Doublestar has some nice basic rifles on buds for like 654 shipped. Throw an optic on it and if you want a flip up rear and your good to go. I have 2 I built off their parts including an SBR and never a bit of trouble with either and they run anything i put in them.
  6. arnt there some digging equipment on the property we could use lol
  7. They have a dovetail milled into the slide
  8. For quick disconnect, Bladetech makes one similar to the ELS but does not require the ELS belt.
  9. They can have more than 4 targets(8 shots) visible at any time. They just cant have more than that where it is only visible from there ie cant have 10 shots only visible through a port.
  10. For a 6in the bladetech is nice I wish safariland made the als holster for a 6 in gun used one for 3 gun with a glock 34 and liked the retention and the draw was good too if safariland starts making one ill be the first in line
  11. Never seen frame mounted dots die near as much as your getting
  12. Mine runs federal small rifle primers with no light strikes or flattening at major pf I run a light striker spring changed every 3k or so and a jager striker for me fed spp, are too soct for major pf without flattening
  13. +1 on the racemaster. Interchangable blocks so it fits several different guns. The lock is also much more secure and simple/fast to disengage for the odd starts ie sitting in chair, laying on "bed" etc. The CR speed has been known to have guns knocked out even when locked
  14. Never tried them for 9mm major because thats the opposite way you want to go for major. IN 9mm major, a lighter bullet(115-125 range) requires more powder to make major PF than the heavy bullets. More powder means more gas which means the gun shoots flatter. For minor, you get a good soft shooting load with the heavy bullets and a small amount of a faster powder. In open though, gas is your friend for the comp to maximize the benefits of the comp
  15. A glock 34/17 in 9mm is a nice way to go. The 17 if the budget is tight or the 34 if its not quite as tight. If your looking the USPSA route, I would add good sights, and a 13 pound recoil spring. You could also add some dawson/arrdonodo etc base pads and make the gun a 23+1 round gun and shoot limited. That way, he gets to shoot with less to worry about such as stage planning etc. Other possible additions would be a magwell and a little upgrade to the trigger(unless 34 which has the lighter connector to begin with). If he goes to production later, simply remove the basepads and magwell if you added on and your set for production. The advantage with limited minor over production is limited offers much less stage breakdown and allows him to concentrate more on his shooting than breaking down a stage, reloading all the time etc. With limited its 1 reload and there is room for extra shots if need be.
  16. 40 yard slug shots your going to be better off taking them even with a 10 second penalty for not hits at all and 5 seconds for only 1 non A hit. It really isnt that far of a shot. On rifle targets, I dont think the penalties should double at 100 yards on something like say an MGM especially if there is a place to rest the gun etc. At 100 yards, if you throw a couple or 3 of them up there would be 30 seconds penalty to just throw one and go at 10 seconds a piece. The shooters at the top of the list will be the ones who can do it fast AND get the hits.
  17. Shoot an STI here with a glock open gun for a backup. I just keep the extra ammo/mags for the glock in an ammo can in the vehicle. For the holster, I have a racemaster holster with a seperate block for the glock. In about 2 min, my STI holster becomes a glock holster.
  18. If that were the case with the ammo can, if it just said it must be placed on the table at the end of the stage and not that it must be there before last shot fired I would take it down there all day long. Simply shoot the stage, casually stroll back and retrieve the box and walk back and place it in the correct location. Timer stops at the last shot fired so you could stroll back and take as much time as you wanted doing so and the timre was stopped at your last shot if it dosent say before last shot fired. In that case, I would take the procedural. It was like the handcuff stage at the ohio match this year. VERY few bothered to pick the cuffs up and took the procedural
  19. better off selling it now, getting a used glock 17 and turning that into a backup gun for open. That way if you upgrade the backup, the 17 would sell much easier as an open gun than the 23
  20. Does it have holes going across the sides and top all down the striker if so look at a pic of the lonewolf as they are full of holes and known to break
  21. Other manufactures do primarily kimber
  22. If your looking for 9mm major, check out the Matchmaster.
