  1. If it's somewhere in the process start with fundamentals- confirm case isn't the issue (done), confirm OAL is set correctly (below) after that it's removing bell and out of spec projectile that you're left with, oh and possible a defective case gauge and/or barrel; which is possible, but unlikely. Confirm OAL: Grab a fired case (that you're sure isn't glock'd or bulged) and insert a bullet without bell'ing or crimping the case. Load this dummy round in a mag, rack the slide and chamber the round. Carefully remove it and measure the overall length. Set your seating die to this measurement and make a dummy round or two. They should case gauge and plunk/spin. If not, you may have out of spec projectiles or they aren't seating properly. Either way, through process of elimination you're down to one or two variables to test.
  2. I don't have the competition series dies, these are the Titanium Carbide ones, but yes the sizing and seating dies are redding. It could be that I have not found the right balance between belling enough to seat the bullet without scraping and belling so much the case scrapes the seating die.
  3. If it were me, I'd try to figure out if the problem is the components or the brass. Grab a new unfired case, pull the bullet and run it through your machine. If it doesn't case gauge, the problem is somewhere in your process not a bulged case.
  4. I'm working up a load for 200gr bullets (currently trying BBI and Gallant) using Prima SV. I'm a bit bummed that I can't seem to bell the case enough (if I bell too much, then the case scrapes during seating) to prevent every 5th or so bullet from scraping during seating. This is with Redding dies, I've got some Dillons on the way to see if they are better.
  5. So as I'm getting ready to load up on the Sport Pistol Powder on sale at Grafs. I thought that Prima V was back in stock at PV, however when you go to add it to the cart, it shows out of stock. Looks like I'm going to be trying me some Sport Pistol
  6. My stock of S&B SPPs from my last Cabelas run is starting to run low. Any deals out there for SPPs @ less than $24/1000? Best deal I've located is CCIs for $28/1000 + Hazmat
  7. OP- thank you for supporting the sport by helping to RO the match. Without support from folks such as you, and the folks that build the stages, our sport wouldn't be able to survive. I'm also glad that you asked your question, not only for you to learn from, but from the others that read this post in the future.
  8. Works good (I've used it on several CZs) just need to triple check everything is aligned and square before you start cranking on the adjustment handle. It will take some effort to move, however once the sight breaks free it's much easier.
  9. If you have Amazon in FR, try this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HU4NNDE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  10. Another vote for the Nobel Sport/Vectan line of powders. I use Prima V for 180gr major loads and recently have been experimenting with Prima SV for 200gr major loads. Both work great in 40 major and are less than $15/pound.
  11. For grips, I'd recommend Lok boggies all the way. Either palm swell or standard, depending on your hand size I have both a CZ and CZC magwell on my guns. While the CZC is larger, I tend to prefer the CZ one more. Maybe it's because the CZ magwell was on my first TSO, but I can load mags more consistently in the CZ one. Every now and again, I don't fully insert (mag does not drop, but next round isn't picked up either) the mag in the pistol that has the CZC magwell.
  12. Me too! My solution is to use grams followers. In the short term, you may be able to bend the spring where it attaches to the follower, to make the follower stick up less
  13. The part that kills me is that if the OP only shot 8 rounds, there was clearly not a competitive advantage, albeit a clear violation of the written rule, however not sure if the spirit of the rule was in violation; splitting hairs I guess.
  14. I have seen (and done so myself) quite a few people hit the wall of a port, while transition to shoot a target in the port. So no, I do not agree that shooting a wall during a transition in itself is reason for a DQ. There would need to be some other factors in the equation.
  15. We are lucky in Western PA to have clubs that put up challenging stages. Typical is 5 + classifier.
  16. I might have more than one. Also interested to hear what prompted this somewhat random question?
  17. Decided to try some 200gr coated BBI bullets and Prima SV powder. This reminded me how much I dislike loading long projectiles. Should be able to chrono them on Friday.
  18. Interesting to understand this, as the load data for 180gr coated is 5gr at the same OAL and barrel length. I wonder if the 200g projectile is being seated deep enough to compress or nearly compress the charge.
  19. Interested to see what weight bullet people are using and thoughts behind those choices. I use 180gr for my tactical sports, however considering moving to 200gr coated bullets
  20. ? it lasted a lot longer than I thought it would. It finally came apart again while practicing at the end of last season, at that point I installed a factory TS fixed sight.
  21. I have had two different adjustable sights on my .40 TSO break/malfunction. If the notch on the fixed TS sight wasn't so wide (last one I ordered as ~5mm or so, wide) I'd move to one of those in a heartbeat. I shoot major, 168-175 PF. The sight on the left come on my pistol from the factory. The back portion of the sight broke where the screw in the center is. The slotted nut on the kensight walked off in the middle of a sectional match. Without it, the entire rear portion of the sight moves around (left/right) also, the pin at the front had a tendency to 'walk out' and had to be pushed in after every stage. I staked it with a chisel, so now it looks like ass, but seems to stay put. When this sight finally breaks, I'm getting a fixed one, either narrow notch CZ unit or one of the aftermarket ones available.
  22. If SP works equally as well in .40 as 9mm, I may have to give it a try when my current stash of Prima V runs out.
  23. HP Jack- that was great, gave me a bit of a chuckle as that thought 'may' have crossed my mind a time or two during my recent moves.
