  1. Thats the coolest thing I've heard in awhile. -edit: read in a while.
  2. I had a feeling I'd get a bunch of "time for a .40" replies. I think I just needed to hear it from someone other than me. There really are no local matches, we have IDPA, but I'm steering away from that right now. Prob, gonna be 8-10 matches per year, next year.
  3. I have been talking myself out of a .40 for about 2 years now. I have a few 9mm, and a few .45, mainly stock guns. I reload for both, and the idea was to not take on any new calibers. But, I am now really about to get a custom/semicustom double stack 2011 style something. And I cannot decide on which caliber. It is driving me bonkers. I have never shot limited before, and am aware of major/minor scoring differences, so that has me on the fence. Am I really gonna disadvantage myself a ton, by getting a 9, or is the .40 really the only way to go? I shoot the Pro-am every year, as well as a few outlaw 3-gun matches, so that has me thinking 9. I would love to try limited, and be competitive, so that has me thinking .40....... Dammit, my head hurts. Please, steer me the right way. thanks.
  4. Luckily, I have not bought a single burnable component since all this started, and I didn't have a "large" stockpile either. I'm down to a couple thousand small rifle primers though. I knew it would pass.
  5. I'm lucky enough to shoot at his range often, and talk with him now and then. That dude is too cool.
  6. I stand 10 hours per day, every day, so I don't give it a second thought. I stand while I reload.
  7. I got the 550b from Dillon, and I do not regret it. In fact, I have 2 set up now, one for small primer, and one for large. I load 9mm, 45acp, and .223, without any problems at all. I loaded for 10 years on a single stage press. I would recommend a single stage for precision rifle, but for pistol a progressive is awesome. OH, welcome aboard. You have found a great place on the interweb.
  8. I use plain Remington Slugger in my SLP, IC choke. 6 inch groups at 100 yards. I was using a bench, but not "holding" the gun down, just resting it. Results are the same during a match. I guess I lucked out, it was the first slug ammo I tried, and it worked fine. Godd luck to you!
  9. I'll put my vote for MGM as well, I see their sponsorship EVERYWHERE. Support what I do, and I'll support you. Not to mention theirs is the highest quality out there.
  10. I am constructing a range on my property also. I went with mgm steel. 2- 10 inch tac rounds 2- bcc zones 2- mini auto poppers Ill start with this for now, I'm sure ill add more in the future. In fact, my next 2 will be standard pepper poppers with claybird throwers. Congrats on your range.
  11. Thanks again, Here are some more progress photos. Steel came in. MGM is top notch! Moving all the trees I cut down, out of the way tomorrow, so I can get the tractor in there.
  12. I myself am waiting on a full meal deal CTR-02! Oh, the anticipation! I placed my order on, Sept. 28th. Good luck on your situation.
  13. I use nufinish as well, and I tried a bunch of other stuff. It seems to be the best for me. After resizing rifle brass (use mobil 1 for that) I dump the brass in a beach towel, toss a couple of ounces of "Prep-all" on them, and tumble them manually. Clean as can be. Never had a failure after case gauging. Prep-all is used for getting everything off of metal before painting, I found it in the paint section at our local wally world.
  14. right now it's a mix of Mobil 1, and ewl's slip 2000.
  15. I was trying to win that one! Congrats Jay, it was nice to meet you there. So, I came home and ordered my very own upper. Seems to be working just fine, but I only ran 2 mags thru it thus far.
  16. I've always ran an Eotech, even against scoped rifles in outlaw matches, and faired well, so it is a welcome addition for me. Know how to use what you got, and the rest doesn't really matter.
  17. Thanks guys. I've been really thinking hard about what to do with the land behind the pond. Its almost half an acre. The other day I asked some company at dinner, "anyone know someone with a dumptruck?" Fellas name is "Bull", seems pretty cool, he dropped the price 40 bucks per load after our agreement! I just don't see much of that in the world today. Now, I'm getting ready for the "after" pics!
  18. You have found "the" place! Welcome.
  19. I plan on using the lumber that comes from the trees to build a bridge to make for easy access. I also can back off about 100 yards and send them over the pond. Oh, and I got 6 MGM steel targets inbound right now! I'll fly over and get an areal shot of the progress. Should be more noticeable.
  20. Brought in 7 loads of roadbed monday (got it cheap at $120 a load), getting 3 more tomorrow. That should finish off the "berm core". There is a pine thicket where the actual shooting area is gonna be. I've been chainsawing like crazy, used 6 tanks of fuel sofar, probably 100 trees gone. They range in size from saplings to 10 inches diameter. When I get enough room, I'll bring in a tractor with a front loader on it, to "shape up" the berm. Then, when it settles some, I'll go high class, and cover the front and top with topsoil, and seed it. It's not gonna be a large berm, maybe 5-6 feet, but it's mine, and it's top of the hill, so if I'm 20 yards back, targets on the ground at the berm will be chest high. pics would help, hang on.
  21. They're pretty neat. I bought mine for when I'm riding motorcycle. The old ones kept falling out. The marshmallows stay put! +1 on these right here, I got'em, I like'em, I'm about to go run in them right now.
  22. Fist time for me to even see one was at the Ozark 3g. I gave it 3 shots, and moved on. Didn't spin it That was my worst stage. I've been practicing shotgun reloads since that match.
  23. Finally, after say some 25 or so years, my dream of having my own personal range is becoming a reality. Talked with the dump truck guy after church today, and he said it's all good, and even offered a discount on the previously discussed price. Ordered some steel from MGM, and I have been cutting trees/brush all week to make room for the dump truck. I'm getting very close to having everything that I've ever wanted. Just wanted to share my joy.
  24. Shot this match the last 2 years. Gonna miss this one (with super long sad face) You guys/gals have fun!
