  1. 126 PF! Man, you gotta give yourself some cushion! Tweak that load up a little bit (if your playing games). If your busting bottles by the creek, then go ahead. But, you'll be kicking yourself in the arse, if you fail at the chrono at a match. Once, I used to push it close, then one day at the chrono, my first 2 shots were below pf! That last shot put the average over the floor (I was shooting Major), but not before the sick feeling set in. First thing I did was turn that adjustment bolt up on my press when I got home.
  2. Yes it is. There is a lip that runs around the entire tube (as opposed to a bump on some SG) as long as you leave some of it on each side, then the follower stays put. IOW, only grind out the bottom of the tube. And, I gotta confess, that I went back and took it all the way to the forend, so you can see even more of the follower now. Function is still fine, and I can load it faster than ever, with zero risk of the above injury. I was having some shells jump out on the lifter while loading (I know it was my technique), but this little mod helps ensure seating of the shell past the catch. Check it out, my thumb is better Just to add, it looks like a hack job, but I actually planned every single bit of removal very carefully, and the gun still functions 100%, this was my first experience of "removing metal" on any gun, so it was kind of like an experiment. I guess you gotta start somewhere. Had I owned a welder, I would have tried to weld it, but as it is, I only have grinding/polishing stuff....so, there ya go.
  3. Jealousy is the first thing that comes to mind. Seriously, it looks fun.
  4. I'm doing my instrument training, but am currently vfr only. It would be a stretch for me anyway though. If I fly somewhere more than two hours away I prefer to stay overnight. I did a 2.5 hour and back one day, and was whipped, and I didn't even shoot a match in between. If conditions were optimal, i'd try for it, but......... You guys have fun tomorrow
  5. Based on my observations at matches around here only. Limited and Production have the most Open is next then Single Stack, L-10, and Revo have the lowest turnout, but I'm guessing it is area specific, Like California might have more L-10.

    ohhh S#!T

    Wow, Never give up!
  7. It would be the day of, but it's looking like drizzle/fog/clouds in the forecast, so I'll go ahead an scrub it. As we say in aviation, "Better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, rather than in the air wishing you were on the ground!" I appreciate the offers though. Maybe I could give someone a ride sometime
  8. Thanks! Is that the extra long hand guard? Yes it's the 15.5 inch, perfect fit for my long arms.
  9. Load them, put them in your "practice only" pile. If media, then oh well, is it REALLY that dangerous?
  10. Welcome aboard! Best place on the internet.
  11. I went with JP, but that was my budget. If I were spending less, DPMS's support of my beloved sport would have influenced me to try one of their products. As stated earlier, for what we do with these guns, almost anything would realistically be sufficient. Needs to work, and be accurate.
  12. Looks like Burnet and Georgetown are my best options, anyone coming from either of those directions with an extra spot?
  13. Here is what mine looked like right out of the box (still greasy) Slapped on an Eotech, and inserted a P-mag (with nordic extention), then took the picture. Hope it doesn't make you too jealous BTW, I got the heat sink, it's made of aluminum, and doesn't appear to add any noticable amount of weight. Looks cool, I mean if your gonna go JP, why not get some goodies that they offer
  14. Nice! Did you order a special SJC break to match the .936 diameter barrel? Naaaaa, I just ghettoed it out with a shim kit Seriously, it doesn't look THAT bad, just a little drop off when you get to the comp.
  15. I just got the same rifle, almost. I got the Magpul PRS stock, and put on a SJC titan comp (would have the tank brake if I were open class) I have no "furniture" on my handgaurd, but thanks to Jesse I got a Larue mount with a Trijicon TR24 to complement the rifle. You can't go wrong with a JP. Sorry you have to wait so long though!
  16. If you like shooting, you'll love competition. I find some really good folks in the shooting sports, don't get too hung up on performance at first, just be slow, smooth, and safe. Oh, and welcome to the forums! The best place on the internet for shooting, as far as I know!
  17. Federal bulk runs fine in mine. Winchester bulk is 98%

    Flying Solo

It's a Piper Cherokee. I plan to build a Kitfox sometime in the next few years, but I keep spending my money on guns, powder, primers, and bullets. Those Challengers look like a bucketload of fun! Low and slow, lots of fun! Good luck on your flight training, and your kit!
  19. Airline or general aviation? Airline would be Austin-Bergstrom International (AUS) and I drive by on the way. General - not sure, others would have to say, but Burnet and Georgetown have municipal airports. Lee General, I got a Piper Cherokee here in town, it would be a good little hop to do. If someone is going from a nearby town with a small airstrip, and would be Gracious enough to give a fellow shooter a ride to the match, and back, then I'd promise to be on time!

    Flying Solo

It was required as a student pilot, so as soon as I got my license I rarely went anywhere without some company. This morning I decided to get some solo time, and it was extremely enjoyable. It's been maybe 6 months since I flew solo. I like it....
  21. Is there an airport around there someone could pick me up at? I'll fly over.
  22. I did, it works fine for me. I kept it symmetrical, and not slanted on the lifter. I also removed some of the mag tube (on bottom) and forearm. Pics are on page 4 of th thread I think is titled: slp mods for 3 gun, in this forum. Id post a link but I'm on my phone right now edit: I sat down with a lamp shining in there, and a shotshell on the lifter, and just watched as I slowly cylced the bolt back and forth, with the shell riding up the lifter into the chamber, I took notice of where the shell was actually touching, and cut there. If you look down at the top of the lifter (where the shell would ride) there is a little "divit" for lack of a better word, where the lifter starts to get thinner as you progress toward the end. That is the last place on the FLOOR of the lifter that the shell touched while cycling. Seems that the reason it starts to get thin there is the lifter would be "in the way" if it stayed thick all the way out. The shell does contact the side of the lifter (there is a little lip there on the right side), so no removal there. I went: 1- angle grinder 2- dremel cutoff wheel 3- 220 grit paper 4- 400 grit paper 5- 600 grit paper 6- 1000 grit paper 7- 1500 grit paper 8- 6 inch buffer/polisher with green compound This
  23. I had a bad experience once with some old powder (w231), where I loaded up about 800 rounds, and it made PF until about 6 months later, then it didn't. Now, I confirm velocity with chrono just before a match, just so I don't sweat the chrono!
  24. Check to see if the conversion plate is tight enough, just tight enough to turn without binding, sounds like it's too loose. Don't forget the set screw on the left side of the ram!
