I know Dave, but this was kind of annoying.

They had a great chance for a revenge film that told us more about Quantam as an organization. This super-secret society that does everything and is every where. But didn't. They have characters in the film that do nothing for the amount of lines that they had, making them completely unnecessary. The story was just so convoluted and frankly, like Area 2 stages :D, had they just told a simple story and had awesome action sequences (which they were), it would have been a better film.

All I'll say is this. On the opening action sequence, the entire theatre at the same time said, "Holy S@#%!!!".

I put it this way. If you've got nothing to do or have a decsion at the movies, see it in the theatres. It's not a waste of time or money (since it was short). If you wait 'til rental, then you're just money ahead.

The quick, disjointed editing during the action scenes was extremely distracting. Why anyone thought that Marc Foster could direct an action movie is beyond me. Thankfully, he won't be directing the next Bond. And, what was the point of bringing back Jeffery Wright as Felix Leiter if Foster is just going to cut most of the scenes he was in?

I have to say I was disappointed.

"Casino Royale" was one of the best Bond films in a while.

I expected the same of "Quantum" but it fell short.

I thought the directing was poor, and the photography was shabby.

The camera always seemed to be bouncing around like a hand held home movie.

No plot, just a lot of helter skelter mayhem.

Agreed. Cost $35 for my son and I. (admission and popcorn.) WAIT for the DVD!

I enjoyed this movie, however, this was a bit of a disappointment after Casino Royale, which ranks right up there as one of the best Bond movies of all time.

The plot was a bit disjointed as if they had several ideas for what should happen but they didn't quite get glued together. Or maybe they had 5 different writers do different sections of the film. And will somebody stop these stupid disjoint rapid multi-cut scenes. I just about got motion sick watching the car chase action scene in the beginning of the movie. Someone has obviously mistaken shoddy craftsmanship for modern editing technique.

All that aside I did enjoy the movie and the current direction they are taking the series. I like the return to the basic portrayal of James Bond as a hard drinking steely eyed killer. Which is what Ian Flemming intended.

Not just Felix Liter, but why was the girl Fields in the movie at all. Felix was a wasted part, especially since he had a solid role in Casino Royale. The other CIA guy was a total waste of space. Fields, the British agent, could have just as well been a chamber maid. The plot was a joke. Enviro-geek that wants to conquer the world, one deposed dictator at a time and "own" Bolivia via its water supply? A bit of a stretch. We'll not even mention the "random" hotel that they do the deal at that happens to have the extremely fragile and explosive fuel cells. Seriously?

I saw it last night...not very bondish other than the opening in my opinion.

Caught it this afternoon. The movie was alright. It's definitely a Bond of a different sort, more of a Jason Bourne I thought.

But dam that opening chase scene is awesome!

One thing to keep in mind with the car chase at the beginning is that they actually, and unintentionally destroyed mroe cars than they intended. Some of which were the aston martin, which they had a limited supply of. I think the disjointned feeling of the chase scene, and it's abrupt end, was due to having to save the scene with editing as it went over time, over budget, and had caused a number of injuries.

I do think we got somewhat screwed by it being edited down into a shorter movie. I think mostly the movie was supposed to be a transition with bond solidifying himself as 007. PArt of which was having to make a decision about revenge vs. duty. I suspect that part of the story got shorted in the editing process. I'm hoping for a real extended edition when it hits dvd/blu-ray.

Things it coudl REALLY have done without:

1) The point brake redux scene.

2) The "homage" to goldfinger done in oil.

If you liked Casino Royale, and other editions of bond, this flick is the missing link. For those recalling Casino Royale too fondly, it was very much glued together poorly in the middle too.

The whole movie needs to be re-edited. That is the only way I see to fix it. The problem is, one of editors, Matt Cheese, had no previous experience editing action movies, just like the director had no previous experience directing action movies. Their previous experience was doing low budget art house dramas. Unusually it is the studio that botches the movie and the fix is the "director cut". Here, the solution is for the producer/studio to do a "studio cut".

I liked the opening chase scene.

When it was over I thought,

"Awesome,..... I wonder what that was all about."

Fast cars thrashing about is cool, but I kind of like to know who is being chased and why.

Bond was being chased by Quatum. They were trying to keep their guy from falling into MI6 hands. Granted he was sprung but at the cost of a mole.

I didn't think it was that bad at all but could have done with a little less herky/jerky motion on the fight scenes and a little more interaction with Fields - you hardly cared about her character and it didn't seem to impact Bond much so what was the point?

What did everyone think of the "new" Bond music during the opening credits? I had no idea Jack White was involved in it.

When I heard it on the radio, I thought it sucked. But Partnered with the actual credits, it did the job pretty well. Unless it was a good song before being slapped onto a movies opening credits, there aren't too many opening theme songs that make it as a hit single. I think people are just pissing and moaning way too much.

I saw it yesterday.

Not bad.

Some stuff was REALLY for TV/Movies, dumb stuff, like swinging on a rope while fighting with a bad guy, while the ONLY gun is on the floor. So....

Why not slide/rappel down the rope, get the gun, and shoot the bad guy?????

Why was the hotel at the end blowing up????

6.5 outta 10
