jackruss
Got my Bedell last July and after breaking it in and having some fun sent it off to IonBond last month. I sent them only the stripped upper and lower along with hammer and sear pins, extractor, reverse plug and firing pin stop. I got everything back about 3 weeks later. Couldn't be happier with the results. Had them do the DLC coating in satin black. The barrel and everything else is natural stainless with a little Flitz hand polishing. Total cost with shipping was $200.00 All the parts went together perfect with no interference issues. Enjoy the pics.

boz1911
Looks outstanding!. I haven't been keeping up with the Ion bond finishes, is it as durable as "they" say? Anyone with some pics of a well used Ion finished blaster?

Aircooled6racer
Hello: I have a stainless STI magwell that was ION Bonded and it still looks great after a couple of reloads ;-). It is as tuff as they say. Thanks, Eric
Loves2Shoot
We have been testing it and trying to scrape it up, and about all we can do is put the metal from the objects we are scraping it with onto the finish. It is hard stuff. We have an IonBond facility local and they have decided to let us run our parts there. They do two million in gold coating slot machine parts (TiN)a year and coat Kershaw knives. BEDELLCUSTOM
I think I've seen that gun before still looks the same as when I finished it and now with the Ionbond it should look that way for quite some time!
jackruss
Thanks to you Dan this gun runs like a raped ape. I couldn't be any happier with your work. After it was broken in and the high spots were starting to wear through it was time to get this done.
ipscbob
Does this process require any additional prep work before the gun is sent off for the refinish? How thick is the final coating?
Loves2Shoot
Does this process require any additional prep work before the gun is sent off for the refinish? How thick is the final coating? The coating is 2-4 microns generally, if you pre-prep it, it needs to be bare metal (or chrome) degreased.

galt11
Thanks for the HQ pictures. I was going to put some pieces in the mail today to send down to have the matte finish, but after seeing how nice the satin is, my mind is changed. jackruss
The only prep work I did was take the gun completely apart to save myself charges for shipping and disassembly charges by Ion Bond. They do all the metal prep work. Gun was originally blued. Ion Bond strips the parts with an aluminum oxide blaster after they tape off the frame and slide rails, then throughly clean and degrease before coating.
