What Do You Want to See on a Prize Table

At the last Steel Challenge that I shot, by the time I went up, all the guns and big $ stuff was gone. I picked up a Benchmade knife. I carry it everyday. I'd never spend $ 150 for a knife out of pocket but off the prize table ? Hell yes !

Next year's entry

GPS

Hotel certificates

Cordless power tools -- really help setup

My considerations for a prize are

A. something I want, but would not buy myself

B. anything to make the next (best case an additional) match cheaper, easier, more enjoyable

Lots of great suggestions

Any thing with a serial # on it

Jim

And based on some of Jim's projects, that could include something with 4 wheels and a pile of rust in between. Now I need to see if that thread showing his latest project is updated.

On a more practical note, some of the shooter are flying in to shoot the match. When they are thinking "prizes", they are also thinking something they can take back home with them.

Bill :)

Beyond what's been mentioned, "Stuff I want to try but don't really want to spring the cash for in case I don't like it" always makes for good prize-table gear. Sponsors like it because people get to try their new thing, and shooters like it because they can try something they might not have spent the $ on.

It can be tough to manage, but works well-- here are a few things I've won that were mostly in the 'no way I'd ever buy that' category, but now are in the "I use it all the time";

MGM Auto-poppers (MGM has been good to us)

Brownells screwdriver sets (they gave away a ton of them a while back, but they're really nice)

Brownells uber-vice (I passed over an AR lower and still think I got a far better deal on that one)

Mag basepads from the various makers (Dawson, Limcat, etc)

JP AR trigger kit

TruckVault

FP-10 oil

Wiley-X shooting glasses (I don't wear 'em anymore, but they were cool to get)

Dillon Electronic Ears (I had a different set I didn't like much-- these were much better)

Techwear

Secure Firearms Products case

Shooting books and videos (Saul has a new batch of DVDs out, and Matt always seems to have a new one in the works)

Sponsors like giving certs too 'cause lots don't come back ;)

There was a cool RC car at one Area match I went to-- it went quick. Good Airsofts likewise.

maybe in place of the gift certificate, it could be a prepaid mastercard or something like that.

Shhoting bags are good Dillion, brownell also.

knives

multitool kits

video series

dillon primer filler (RF-100?)

If there are any gun parts, then division specific is good.

I am not a fan of gift certificates for clothing like techwear stuff.

maybe another consideration is for the people that travel there by air.

+ Hoppes 9, BoreSnakes, brushes

What's all that stuff for ???

Hoppes 9 to loosen the gunk lead bullets leaves on your reloading dies.

BoreSnakes for making a pass or two through your 12ga before you stuff it in the safe. Also used to clean your reloading dies.

Brushes to knock the big chunks of goo off the feed ramp of your barrel.

Geez. Rookies.

Oooh, isn't this like shopping? Oh wait, I lack the shopping gene....

My suggestions:

Certificates for reloading components - gotta agree!

Electronic Muffs

"mini" chrono's

metal dial calipers (in inches)

electronic powder scales

holster certificates

Some more thoughts--

Digital calipers. Super handy, cheap enough at the low-end to buy a bunch for the prize table (or get a Mitutoyo and watch people wrestle over it) and most everybody can use one or more (I think I have 4 now..)

EGW undersize dies in 9, 38S & .40

EGW mag gauge-- there obviously aren't enough of those around.

Packs of Tru-Grip... Talk Eric into making 3 or 4-packs with one each of his most popular model.. heck, go to all the forum dealers and say "What's the coolest / most popular thing you have that I can buy for $50?"

I picked up a nice pair of binoculars at the Mountaineer Classic a few years ago. They are on top of the fridge ready to grab to see what's going on in the neighborhood.

What I do NOT like are the certificates from a gunsmith where you have to buy a full house gun from them to get a hundred bucks off. :angry2:
