  1. I have seen this happen with some new guide rods. Check the top corners of the rod head where it sits against the frame. Sometimes the guide head will slightly rotate and allow the sharp edge to dig into the rail of the slide. Round the top corners of the guide rod head and issue went away for me. Sherwyn
  2. Loctite 272 high temp - usually available at auto parts store - it is used to hold some GM products together
  3. They are finicky, if you change primer brands. Usually the issue is moving things too far when trying to make adjustments. .005" change in position of the guides will make a difference. I usually use a caliper to measure position before I make any change. If you get really frustrated, I could use a second one Sherwyn

  5. Agreed. Shoot them. Some run rifle primers in everything with no ill affects I would be one of those... Did a lot of testing when primers were REALLY hard to find. I usually had about 10-20 fps increase when going from small pistol to either small rifle or small pistol mag when loading 9 major. standard 9mm load had smaller difference. If you have been around a while, you might remember a time when Federal had the same primer for spm and sr Sherwyn
  6. It has been a long, LONG time since Colt built a quality product. Nothing that has happened recently would be any reason to reconsider.
  7. I have been through most of these fixes over time, usually would make it better but would seem to soon be back. As mentioned by most, it usually was just a little bit off and always to the outside, so I installed a small air blow just below the sizing die mouth. Just a very little air flow to rock the case as it comes up to the die. It also had an added benefit of keeping loose powder off the shell plate.
  8. I feel the main thing would be a Lee/EGW undersize resizer. Then a micrometer style seating die and a taper crimp die. Sherwyn
  9. Reload it and don't worry. I normally only tumble for our match ammo Usually brass for practice ammo goes straight to the press. Still using the first U-die I purchased MANY years ago - may be several hundreds of thousand rounds. Sherwyn
  10. I have carried nothing but 170mm mags for years, of all the things we try to keep consistent why not the mags as well? Once I got used to the reload with 170mm, everything always feels the same....but I like a heavy feel anyway. Sherwyn
  11. New to find a source for side charge bolt handle only. I have an ar that was modified to use right side charge bolt handle, but the handle is missing. 1/4 x 28 thread on the attachment bolt. Prefer something about 5/8"-3/4" round and about 3/4" long. Anyone know where it can be purchased? Thanks, Sherwyn
  12. 3.5 pounds Tried lighter many times, but just never saw any advantage that outweighed the risk and cost. Put in good parts, set it at 3.5 and forget it. the lighter the trigger pull the higher the risk and the higher the maintenance to keep it working. Sometimes the classic trigger freeze is just a light trigger that didn't reset fast enough. Sherwyn
  13. Wondering if Paypal has changed it's guidelines toward guns? When I renewed my NRA instructor certification there was a Paypal option. And I just received a Dick's sporting good promo with a discount if using Paypal?
  14. Yes there are a few spots left for Sat/Sun and lots of room on Friday Sherwyn
  15. Like any fine piece of machinery...as long as you change oil regularly, why tear it down? And like many barrel makers will tell you - more barrels are ruined by cleaning than shooting. Sherwyn
  16. If you use the handy dremel and radius the inside front of the trigger guard to match the radius on the stock plastic grip it will work, inside edge of PT is very square cut. I wanted to holster to work with both and was able to get it working. Not until after struggling through a match with a holster that would not release with anything faster than a snail draw. Sherwyn
  17. Hm. You mean this stage? http://youtu.be/5yTsx7CQIF0?t=8m25s ...because I remember that stage pretty well (I was the CRO for that stage, actually) and all of the ports but one were really low-cut, and there were some barrels and walls (including more ports in the interior of the stage) but I don't recall any spools (maybe I'm misremembering, though I don't think so). Spools were certainly used in that way on stage 12, though, and I could see that possibly being an issue there. (I recall having some not-fun shots there, actually.) If it was stage 9, why didn't anyone say anything? If a shooter can't see a target, it is pretty common to get a block to stand on for their run. No one mentioned any issues (ever) with seeing any targets on that stage, and it makes it difficult to fix issues if no one says anything...and we certainly don't want people taking random shots. Sure it wasn't this stage? http://youtu.be/5yTsx7CQIF0?t=1m42s ....anyway, point being: the range officials during match setup try to make sure that sort of thing won't happen in the first place. In the event that it does happen, the shooter has to say something to the CRO of the stage, after what the RM will give permission for accommodations to be made. Can't shoot the stage if you can't see the targets, and boxes and steps have been used plenty of times in the past in situations like this. Let me echo - if you have any similar issue, talk to the stage crew and let them help. As for Area 3, I apologize if we missed that. I think I remember the target you are referring to, it was almost fully visible from another port, but for some reason many did not see it from that location. Maybe that wasn't the same target, but I personally walked the stages with a junior shooter to look for any issues. We did have steps available for anyone that requested them, but only remember them being used at a 4' wall. Sherwyn Area 3 director
  18. My experience has been very similar in testing long shot. Had a load I really liked worked up in cool weather...dropped 100 fps in warm weather. In testing afterwards it was repeatable. Once load hit peak, any amount of additional powder made almost no difference and little or no pressure signs. Sherwyn
  19. Yeah...upwards 50k of Win primers, small and magnum, and I don't recall ANY issues...can't say that for Remington, CCI, Federal.. last 50k of Win loaded -- caught 4 bad primers in loading tubes (anvil sideways or not all the way in). also had 2 that didn't go bang, on dis-assembly they were just a clean primer cup, never had anything in them.
  20. Had REALLY good weather for setup this weekend, talking about rain tomorrow. Stages are all laid out, several just need fault lines, other need activators, etc worked out. Then all that is left is to give them a little personal touch. Sherwyn
  21. Reference the rules listed earlier... So what is the right call as an RO is you see the competitor put their hearing protection back in place during the course of fire? Sherwyn

  23. I am running a series 1 bridgeport on a VFD. I am not a heavy user, but it has worked great for me and was a very inexpensive option. I studied the book before start up and was able to easily hook up a direction switch and a small pot for speed control. Sherwyn
  24. Seems there was mention of a good paypal alternative, but I can't find anything recent. I just don't want to use Paypal but seems everyone wants some type of instant payment. Anyone have experience with anything? Sherwyn
