Sparky
I do like DLC, as it seems to stand up to all kinds of weather and holster use, etc. However, I am not big on paying extra for a finish that I am going to wear off as I practice and shoot matches. I remember years ago, ok way back in the days of "man on man" competition. A person covering a match asked Ray Chapman that when he comes up to the line and the shooter next to him has a new custom pistol, is he concerned. He said no, but when a shooter is next to him and the bluing is worn off his pistol, then he is concerned, because that shooter has been practicing a lot! assaulter
I like black nitride. Looks great, cleans very easily, durable, doesn't add a thickness and it's affordable. I'd like to try DLC, but I haven't found a decently priced vendor yet.

cnote
Why, I have a hard chromed 1911, a black nitride 2011, and was thinking of DLC when getting another gun refinished. Wasn't exactly getting the "why" part answered by most reply's, but still hoping. If you don't like the thread, move on. No need to complain. Descartian
I have all the finishes listed. My favorite by far is the PVD coating DLC. It’s super hard and wear resistant, it provides a very good amount of wear resistance and it is a “slick” finish. It has a low coefficient of friction and is a slightly porous finish that holds oil. perttime
Off Topic, I'm sure: If you happen to have a gun in stainless steel, is there some benefit in adding a finish - apart from cosmetics, possibly?
Descartian
Low coefficient of friction and rust resistance. Remember Stainless can rust too.
wanttolearn
Really like NP3 by Robar, it's held up well, high lubricity and low friction. I've also have had great luck with CPII by CCR refinishing for the very same qualities. Both pistols have been used a lot. (aesthetically i still prefer a deep gorgeous blue). Code420
DLC and Hard Chrome. Both extremely durable and looks great

My "stainless" guns haven't rusted in three decades, or so. I don't live near an ocean, though.
stardust tommy
My 20y old les baer is HC... has some scratches from PPC schooting I have an 1911 in DLC, coating is worn out on the slide rails and worn from the "detent ball" from my gost holster My new PPC pistol is in Melonite/tenifer and is not as pretty as the DLC or Chrome but is not tested yet in competition DLC is a hard coating on "soft" metal, Melonite/tenifer makes a hard suface in the metal (surface) I would go for a chrome frame and melonite slide

RIIID
TiAlN for the upper and electroless nickel with Teflon on the lower. This gives the classic two tone but a more durable and rust resistant finish. Rich
Hperea
DLC. I like the look of hard chrome also but seeing the scratches would drive me crazy. So DLC.
Jim Watson
I have one hard chrome pistol. I would not mind another. Mass produced nitrided guns from Glock and Smith are OK. The advantage of naked stainless is that you can change things without knocking holes in an applied finish.

Nick_shoots_fast
DLC. I’ve had my Titan for over 3 years now and it’s taken me from A to GM. I say that because the finish has lasted and still going strong from extremely hard use. highly recommended dlc.
