ams30gts
I want to try some mineral spirits with my dry tumbling, but can't find any locally in the Los Angeles/SGV area. I have already been to Home Depot, Lowes and a ACE with no luck. Any suggestions?
Sarge
Must be a california thing? You mean there is no mineral spirits in the paint department at Lowe's/ Home depot?
Bkreutz
Must be outlawed in CA, it's at all 3 of those stores here. I think the more time passes, the less CA looks like the state I went to college in. (Cal 1969, now that is a completely different set of memories)

Flatland Shooter
Amazon? If Lowes, Home Depot and Ace can't sell it in California, then Amazon will not ship it there. Maybe a professional paint store like Sherwin Williams carries it. Only the pros know how to properly handle mineral spirits.

ams30gts
Yup looked at all the paint sections and even asked if they carried any. they all said no and didn't mention anything about it being illegal. Either way, my friend had about half a quart and gave it to me. Gonna try it out tonight.
warpspeed
When I go to Homedepot.com and search for "mineral spirits" I get this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Klean-Strip-1-qt-Green-Odorless-Mineral-Spirits-QKGO75001/100677235 Says it can't ship to CA. Must be new. Edited March 24, 2015 by warpspeed
himurax13
Mineral spirits have been banned since Jan 1, 2013 if I remember correctly. I just pick some up in Vegas when I run low on -20 Windshield Washer fluid.

himurax13
Lighter fluid as substitute. I have also used a capful of Hoppe's #9 as well. Its great for taking off the bullet lube from lead bullets.
danman00
Why in the world would you not be able to buy mineral spirits in CA? What's wrong with ..... oh hell. Why ask why.
Graham Smith
CA banned a lot of high VOC products. There are substitutes for mineral spirits but they may not work as well. Why not use a little liquid polish instead?
JonF
Be careful putting solvents in your tumbler. I tried putting a little low odor mineral spirits in with my well used corncob media to try to resurrect it, but the solvent and vapors caused the lid on my Lyman tumbler to warp. This happened on both my big turbo 2500 magnum with a black lid and my little Mini 600 with the clear lid.
ffries61
I've been using low odor mineral spirits for years in my 25 yr old Midway tumbler with no problems. Fred Edited April 9, 2015 by ffries61
drysideshooter
Mineral spirits, like about everything else, must be known to the state of CA to do something bad if misused. Soon they will ban bottled water because if your pour enough of it into a suitable vessel you could manage to drown yourself. 9x45
I want to try some mineral spirits with my dry tumbling, but can't find any locally in the Los Angeles/SGV area. I have already been to Home Depot, Lowes and a ACE with no luck. Any suggestions? You want to use mineral oil, not mineral spirits. Available at any grocery store. Put a teaspoon or 2 into your walnut media to "load" it. There is zero dust, wets the brass and cleans it, and the media lasts a really long time. Then into corn for a 2nd tumble with liquid car polish. Even though some of the cases look like Wolff steel, they are not, but rather heavily tarnished brass. from nasty to nice Edited April 20, 2015 by 9x45

RDA
Stainless pinned - "From Nasty to Nice" !!! Nice, but no offense Steve, but that is no where near nasty. Some of the range brass I picked up I wasn't certain it was a case for sure. Edited April 21, 2015 by RDA

Lately my range trips have been random but I usually hit up the SWPL matches at Lopez Canyon the last sundays of every month. I also go to the Deadwood boys in Piru for Action pistol once in a while. I also go shoot at the 1800 Americana club for IDPA and bowling Pin.
johnbu
I'm afraid residual baby oil would affect the primer or powder reliability. Or if they would gurgle butt and drop a load out the stinky end
