waynes_world_45
52 oz EMPTY!!!!! Weighed on a postal scale. Could that be right????? I need to cut weight. Where is the best place to start, and how the hell am I going to lose 10 ounces? It a STI Duty One in .45acp Wilson Combat Hammer, RFO front sight, fully adjustable blade type rear sight, S&A Magwell, factory 30 lpi front strap checkering, ambi safeties, VZ alien grips, and FLGR Edited July 27, 2013 by waynes_world_45
ChuckS
You probably need a new scale. The STI website shows 37.2 oz (1054.60g) for the 5" duty one http://www.stiguns.com/the-sti-duty-one/ Edited July 27, 2013 by ChuckS
anilson
My Caspian needed major tri top to make 43oz but there frames and slides are heavy. Your Sti should not be close to 50oz with empty mag.
anilson
Look at magwell and mainspring housing to cut weight
ltdmstr
That big, chunky dust cover adds a bunch of weight over a typical 1911.

jkrispies
That big, chunky dust cover adds a bunch of weight over a typical 1911.^^^this +1 However, I bet your scale is off. If that's correct, then you have one helluva solid gun. To lower weight, if it has a guiderod, you could go to the old non-guiderod style. You could go alloy with the backstrap and magwell, or ditch the magwell altogether. Then... good luck with the other 8oz!
waynes_world_45
I'm gonna find another scale. Supposed to be 37oz with the flgr....the grips and Magwell surely don't weigh 8oz apiece....lol
40S&W
That 37.2 oz. is without empty mag inserted & no SA magwell. Weigh the gun, then weigh the empty mag. Remember you only have 5.8 oz. to play with to be 43 oz. or lighter. I'd also have it checked on a different scale. I don't think an empty mag & SA magwell equals 14.8 oz. Steve RA
There may be extra weight in the frame for the undermount but I agree with the above, also try another scale.
Marv Z
My TRP weighs 42 ounces with a Wilson mag. Can't believe your STI is that much heavier.
Seth
Look at your grips, steel MSH, and full length guide rod. Big weight in those buggers.
pskys2
Almost sounds like you had a full mag in. Or a Plutonium Guide Rod. Edited July 28, 2013 by pskys2

waynes_world_45
Ok...finally went and bought a new scale....it weighs 40.5 ounces empty and 42.5 with and empty mag inserted That's more better!
TerryO
Ok, so the easiest way to cut weight on your gun is... buy a new scale, I need to try that :-)
38superfan
TerryO if only that worked for all things. So I need to lose about 10lbs and I like your solution more than giving up mountain dew and doing more cardio. Best weight loss plan ever! You sir are a genius! v1911
But w/o Mountain Dew you'll dehydrate from the cardio! Better off 'fixing' that scale that that you're 10lbs lighter. It's a win win.
waynes_world_45
I have recently lost 35 pounds, but there's no scale in my house....I always weigh at work I weighed it originally on a buddy's analog meat scale. I just bought a digital scale from BB&B and weighed it again. It took so long because I really didn't have time to go to BB&B and I'll be damned if I was going to send my wife....I try to keep her out of those kind of places...her eyes roll back in her head and she goes into this kind of trance and money becomes no object...."must buy more useless kitchen junk"......
