  1. The point is if you practiced this way then you would have gotten all the points you already had but would have shot faster. If you shoot accurate ALWAYS then you speed will increase till you are shooting as fast or faster than your competition but more accurately. Not saying that is what I do personally but it is sound in theory. If you shoot for accuracy without any focus on pushing the speed envelope, you're speed will not increase dramatically. You will get faster, but it takes longer to get there. Right now I'm working on faster splits at distance. I have to go outside my comfort zone to find out just how fast I can shoot at 15,25,35y etc and still hit the target. I tend to "over sight picture" beyond 15y. It's getting better. Confidence is growing.
  2. I like it. It will still take some practice, but probably 50% less than trying to perfect the 4 shell caddie reload. Everyone I've shown it to likes the concept. They may not like the Otto rig for one reason or another, but they seem to like the concept of the loading technique. My only critique on Mark's rig is that I'm thin and the 22shell rig is quite wide. That is an easy fix though. I'm contemplating making it an 18 shell rig. I would do it by cutting off the two holders on one end, then recut the slot for the belt. That gives me two 8 round reloads with two "oh-ish" rounds in case I drop one. If I should ever need more ammo than that, I'll throw a caddie or two on the belt. Making it thinner also helps make it flatter for easier storage. I'm also looking at slicing it right down the middle and adding a hinge.
  3. I don't like Titegroup either. I've shot it back to back under the same bullet and find it harsh. I load 5.1 Universal for JHP's. I switched when I started shooting lead and moly, never switched back even though I switched to JHP's. I load 1.180 and shoot a 6" Schuemann barrel.
  4. Did you make that slide holding fixture?
  5. Armpit, loading with my weak hand. I looked at how to do it strong but it didn't make sense to me. My strong hand stays on the grip of the shotgun and I roll my wrist over so I can access the loading gate.
  6. Do you have the .325" tall rear sight? They have two heights iirc.
  7. Although I'm sure someone will post numbers (11oz-12.8oz), the ideal slide weight really comes down to how you want the gun to feel. Where do you want the balance point? Some like nose heavy for recoil management, others (me) like the weight as close to the hand as possible for transistions. If you are building it yourself, start out heavy and lighten it as you go. Get it shootable and start testing. For me, a good baseline is a Tritopped bushing barrel set up. That is already on the lighter side though. You could start with a bull barrel, then turn it down to a bushing set up later to test both set ups. I remember being given this exact advice. Just passing it along.
  8. No procedural for you, but now your typing in Open.
  9. I'll post a pic in a bit. Actually, the first two pics in this thread are exactly what mine looks like.
  10. I ordered the Otto rig thursday. Got it today (tues). I'm pretty good at weak hand loading, but this is going to be faster.
  11. Circleville puts on a heck of a match. Fun stages. HOA singlestack! LOL. The ONLY singlestack....but 2nd overall at least.
  12. I don't change the striker spring, as long as it's the gen4 assembly from Smith it will ignite anything. The sear geometry is where you can make huge gains in feel (crispness). Apex has changed their sear geometry recently and I like the older one better. Install the trigger return spring and safety plunger spring from Apex. Makes a big difference in pretravel pull weight. I bend the trigger bar .020" to get an increase in reset feel.
  13. Went up to Circleville over Labor day. Had two mikes on the day. Weird. Not enough focus on a wide open 25y target, the other was the same thing but on a super easy target. Took it for granted. Have to stop doing that. 2nd overall, unofficially. Fun match, but man was it HOT.
  14. You can get this barrel clamp from Brownells in .740 diameter. Everyone that has tried this set up really likes it. For close up (0-50y big brown) you use the tube and the peep. Circle in circle, see brown and dump two at it. For precision I have a .030 post centered in the front tube. The front tube is 30mm, larger than what's available at Brownells/Midway. Found it at a Benchrest shooting supply online store. DPMS non-NM rear sight. I wanted the gross elevation numbers (3/6, 4, 5 etc) for distance. Set it up for 50/200ish and 25/300ish zero's. 9 clicks down from 3/6 is the 50/200. Turned the rear sight up 9 clicks up from bottomed out, then adjust the dial to show 3/6. It's fast when it needs to be, and accurate when it needs to be.
  15. GWR Performance Shop. G35 for Limited. It takes longer to do a pattern, but I like it. Same pattern as the 2011 grips.
  16. I've had similar stoppages recently. Bolt is open, chamber empty, last round (always last round) is sitting on the lifter and the lifter is in the down position. To clear it I simply poke the lifter up and the round feeds and bolt closes. It acts as if the mag spring is too soft, the last round isn't pushed out of the magazine with enough force. My new tube and spring are waiting for me to pick up.
  17. I noticed the same thing. Jake just sat there with his mouth shut while the others dropped themselves in the bucket. I can look past the "red-head step childs" comments because I know they are in retaliation to Jakes comments. He's the only one that puts Jake in his place.
  18. As far as I know, video can't be used in arbitration.
  19. I bumped up my Clays load to 4.8gr for 185gr LSWC in .45. I also tried 5.8gr of Universal Clays but it felt harsher than the Clays load. I haven't shot JHP with it, but that's as close as I get to the info you're looking for.
  20. My feed lip tool looks like this:
  21. The Apex parts are indeed very good. Much like the EGW or EE 1911 trigger kits. Can be dropped right in, however, with a little work they can be even better. I've tried their foward set sear and trigger set up and it was awesome as a Limited gun set up.
  22. This is why you NEVER cover the ejection port to catch the round. Hope everyone heals quick, and learns from it. Shorten the ejector so that a loaded cartridge (tip of bullet) clears the ejection port before the base contacts the ejector. You didn't mention how fast or slow he racked the slide. I always rack out the round as fast I rack in the round. I yank the slide pretty hard.
  23. The cave side match was the highlight for me. That was by far the best 28 seconds I've ever had with a gun in my hand. I've wanted to shoot the cave stage since I saw it last year on tv. The vendor and sponsor presence was amazing. There was also quite a bit of money raised for two very good causes: Task Force Dagger and the Lone Survivor Foundation. Check them out. This match NEEDS to happen next year. One thing our squad noticed after finishing the entire match: Every RO, on every stage was super laid back. They were the example of what RO's are supposed to be. They were there to make sure we had a good time first, and if the shooter happened to earned a penalty, document it. Great time.
