  1. The aluminum rods are great for those that like the idea of the full length rod, but don't like the weight out front. Steel12 uses aluminum and his weighs 38oz and change. I use a steel FLGR and my SS also weighs in at 38oz and change. I took weight out of other areas so I could still be in the 38's with the steel rod. I like the way the gun handles with a SS rod. With production 1911's, I've seen several that really could use an aluminum FLGR just to ensure they make weight.
  2. Agree. One of the violators at work NEEDS to walk further.
  3. I know of at least two people where I work that are misusing their handicap parking hang tags. It drives me nuts to see someone park in a handicap spot and then JUMP out of their car and RUN into the store. Of course, they hang their tag from the mirror first. Both workplace violators have legitimate tags, for their spouse or for their child. Doesn't mean they can use it for themselves. I see it all the time, not just at work. One of the teachers at my sons school parked in the HC parking, hung her tag, then got out of her car, grabbed some full boxes and carried them into the school. No limp, no cane, no crutches, not morbidly obese, nothing. When I smashed my foot I had a leg cast and crutches. I parked far enough away in the lot to give me room to get my crutches out of my truck, then hobbled into the store or where ever. I couldn't even get a temp hang tag. There are people who REALLY need the closer parking but it's always soaked up my somebody abusing it.
  4. I wear Underarmor under my shooting jersey. The techwears and super hot conditions give me serious heat rash on my back. The Underarmor wicks the sweat (salt) away from my skin and prevents it.
  5. I was just referring to the quality of sight picture or perhaps a partial target. I don't plan to drop points but if the c zone is all that I see unless I lean far out, which is slow, I may look at taking that. Just something I want to keep in mind. Now to watch your vid one more time..

Tony sells Freelance base pads too. You can actually buy a whole race ready package. I think the M&P would make a great Limited gun. I would run the heaviest magwell possible and a tungsten guide rod (if even available).

Yep, get in touch with Tony or Corey. They should be able to direct you to make it happen.
  8. Radius it with a file. Smooth it with 600g paper. Pretty much all that's necessary. I've tried small radius, large radius (up to FP hole), flat angle cut and stock radius. I have a little collection of them now.
  9. "Um" "Errrr" "Uhhhh" You get 3 freebies. If you are addressing a crowd, learn to accept a silent pause. Excessive use is usually due to the speaker, orator, narrator not wanting any breaks. If you are deciding what to say, it's ok to not say or utter anything instead of filling the void with garbage. I've seen someone use "Ummm" about 120 times, while reading a prepared lecture. That one I don't understand. The words are written down, as she wrote them yet she still found it necessary to "Ummm" it to DEATH.

Call Bud's. They may not be listed yet, but I heard they may have 40L's for a good price.
  11. To keep my RD up to date, 2010 and 2011 results: 2010 Ohio Buckeye Challenge; Limited 10 div. winner (HOA) 2010 KY Battle in the Bluegrass; Single Stack div. winner (HOA) 2010 Area 6 Championship; Single Stack div. 1st Master 2010 USSA Pro-Am Championship; Limited AM Champion (HOA) 2010 IN State Championship; Limited div. 2nd Master 2011 Ohio State Championship; Single Stack div. winner (HOA) 2011 KY Battle in the Bluegrass; Production div. winner (HOA) 2011 KY State Multi-gun Championship; Tac-Optics div. 7th 2011 Alabama Section Championship; Production div. 2nd Master 2011 Indiana Section Championship; Limited 10 div. winner (HOA) I'm holding to my word to shoot SS at TN, then I'm giving 'little skinny' a break for while to shoot LTD.
  12. After actions review of the Indiana state match. First off, great stages. I really enjoy the IN matches, one reason is the themes. The stages were a great mix of speed and accuracy. “Know when to go, know when to whoa.” I didn’t shoot error free but I minimized the damage when something unexpected happened. My gun failed to lock completely closed several times. Not sure if it was ammo related, gun not liking mixed brass or what. That’s an easy thing to fix though and it will be taken care of. I hadn’t shot my 2011 for about a year prior to this match. In fact the last major I shot with it was the IN match last year. Here’s the breakdown by stage: Limited 10 Division Stage 7. I decided to take two paper and two poppers from the first port. In hind sight, I could have left the left popper until the final door position and shot to slide lock twice on the way to the second port. I chose a safer plan. It was our first stage and my finger wasn’t quite up to speed yet. Other than that the stage went pretty well. 146pts in 26.70 would have put me 3rd in Limited div. Stage 8. Point stage. Everyone was hosing it. 10 round mags so I shot it 10, 4, 10, 8. Little hesitation at the last low port. 1C and 1D (middle target in the cave) in 15.99. Stage 9. Had a gun issue on my second target and one make up shot during a reload. This one didn’t make the video. I shot the 5 targets on the right, reloaded, close two at my feet and closest left 3. Reloaded to final two on the left. Reloaded on the way to activate the swingers. I was 2 seconds off the pace from where I should have been due to the earlier gun issue. 31A and 1C in 21.75. Stage 10. Probably my best stage. Primary plan was to shoot the star and 3 paper to slide lock. Finish on far right two targets. Had a makeup on the star so I went to my back up plan. 151pts in 20.74. Stage 11. Since I had to stop and set up for the long paper shots through the port, I decided to take the two poppers from there as well. Saved me the long transition back to them from the final port position. I had another failure to close and that cost me a couple seconds. I dropped more points on this stage than any other. Also did an unplanned reload after the shakey bridge. 143pts in 23.13. Stage 1. LOL. 2011’s don’t close from slide lock like Glocks. Forgot to add into my plan that the slide would be locked back after the first 5 targets. Also, storing the mag in the magpouch was TOTALLY unnecessary since there were more barrels down range to put mags on. Between both mental errors I was about 5 seconds off the pace. I did at least go 28/4 for 156pts. Stage 2. Time lost was on the right plate. Didn’t give it enough attention after the wide open paper targets. Good learning point. 4D, 1D and 1P in 21.06. Stage 3. Shot my own plan. Different from AMU’s Demac and was a second off his pace (he shot Prod). Picked up my only Mike of the match here, on a simple target. 136pts in 17.57 Stage 4. 3.93 down 4. Stage 5. Took the safer of the two plans. Ended up waiting on the max trap. 4.43 down 2. Lost .5 second waiting. 2nd to the last stage and I didn’t want to take the chance to pick up a mike/NS. Stage 6. Also shot this one different than everybody else I watched. Since I had to reload twice, I wanted to reload while squatting. Worked perfectly. The high port was closer than the outside targets so I I shot them first. I was able to get settled on them quicker and they were closer. Made sense to me. 24A in 11.36. Long winded, but hopefully when I revisit this post later I will have fixed the issues I’ve pointed out. Key points: Know in the stage plan if the gun will be slide lock. Pay attention to fault lines. Chamber check ammo if brass is questionable.
  13. I indicate off the top of the slide. All slides are not equal. I've seen some where the ridge on the right was higher than the ridge on the left. I use a 1* block under it to get it close then adjust for zero run out. I cut the depth until I achieve .400 width flat top. Can't remember what the depth came out to.
  14. I enjoyed your video. I was comparing my times to yours since we both had to reload after 10 (I shot L10). You rocked stage 7. Watching my video in comparison it looks like slow motion and I was 2 seconds off your pace. I came to the same conclusion about it being a points match. I said the same thing, everyone will be able to hose it, must go for points. Although comparing scores, it looked beneficial to allow up to 7 points down if it meant going 1 second faster.
  15. Did you try to contact Bobby? He has done exactly what you are looking to do. He has the sight to fit the modified dovetail. If not, use the side of the cutter not the bottom. Gives you the radius ends and less tool marks.
  16. How is the lock up at the muzzle. Most barrels have a reduced diameter .75-1.00" behind the muzzle. The easy fix, since this was a free barrel, is to cut it off. Hacksaw works, then clean it up with files. You were looking for a .40, not necessarily a 6" .40. You could even turn it down and use a bushing if the lock up is loose. See my avatar.
  17. Your load is the standard 200gr load. Light load is not it. Too light recoil spring? Nope. Lighter makes it easier. Too strong, maybe. Mag springs may be weak as posted above. Also, look at the surface of the slide stop where the plunger engages it. Put a little oil on the tip of the plunger. When my gun starts to do that it always been the mags.
  18. Great match. There was actually a lot of shade to help against the heat, plenty of water at each stage too. Thanks to all the staff for a great match. Had a really good time. Very fun stages. Glad I was able to make it this year. S
  19. I was hit with something very similar in Feb. I couldn't bare weight on my left leg without severe pain. Went two weeks on pain meds and motrin just to be able to walk. Riding in a car was horrible. Doc said no more pain meds after the first two weeks. I didn't like them but they made it possible to survive day to day. MRI in April showed a ruptured disc. I could barely put on shorts, shoes were impossible. Two consults with surgeons, one said yes, the other said no to surgery. I tried the Mckenzie book for stretches, made it worse at times. I've considered epidurals. I've tried about every homedic remedy. It's now July and I'm just now to the point and can function at 90%. Before surg or epi's I want to try a few rounds of traction PT. It definitely interferes with shooting.
  20. The AAA AMU ammo is accurate. The UC load felt much hotter than the velocity showed. I would have guessed 180 PF. The clays at 4.7 felt just like my 200gr SWC load. The faster bullet hits 2 inches lower which was the goal as my fixed sight gun hits 4 inches high at 25 with the 200gr bullets.
  21. I had searched for 185gr SWC load data with Universal Clays and Clays powder. Not much info so I'll post what I tested yesterday. Tested at 75ish degrees on indoor range. Each powder charge individually weighed during assembly. Missouri 185gr SWC, IDP#3 bullets. 5" Schuemann barrel. 4.7gr Clays powder, OAL 1.25 940 940 961 945 880 AVG: 933fps PF: 172 6.1gr Universal Clays powder, OAL 1.25 917 973 856 899 935 927 AVG: 917fps PF: 169 Also test Atlanta Arms 185gr JHP (Black Box) 824 822 795 793 786 800 770 771 AVG: 795fps PF: 147
  22. I run a low pro JP adjustable on my 20". I also use the light carrier and light rifle buffer. I've tuned it to "just" lock open with the ammo I use. The rifle is very very flat.
  23. Might consider STI. I've had good success with their .40 barrels.
