3D Printed Case Collator
Intheshaw1 replied to SoggyCashew's topic in non-Dillon Reloading Equipment
So I picked up an creality CR10 V2 3d printer for 370 which is pretty nice and has a bigger bed for printing. First big thing I printed was a primer tube filler based on Thingiverse plans. I got enough parts to build 2 of them for 30 bucks which included spending 12 on a wall adapter vs a 9v battery. Plastics for 2 is about 3 bucks of that 30. I will say the motor and switches I got off Amazon are a lot more powerful than a vibraprime. Same thing for a casefeeder or bullet feeder. You can buy parts that work fine for probably about 100 bucks or you can spend more for stronger motors and variable switches and whatnot. I will say, the plastics are the cheap part. I'd be surprised if you spend more than a spool ($20) on a feeder and likely a lot less. My idea in getting the 3d printer is I could save a ton on a few big projects like this and then print a lot of little things. I'm a tinkerer so it's a fun machine to have either way. -
My 34 and 17 both love those BBI 125s.

3D Printed Case Collator

Yeah, it's more of a chat thing but there are a bunch of files on a google drive. I printed a primer tube filler from plans on Thingiverse and designed the filler end myself. I just need a press bigger than a 550 so I can make the bullet and case feeder. I've considered making them now just because I feel like it and having the brass and bullets drop into something flat just so I can grab them in the correct orientation. -

https://discord.gg/reloading I got a 3d printer after getting sucked into the reloading discord and spending some time in the 3d printing channel. -

Jump on the reloading discord channel, there is soooo much info on this there. Most of the newer designs are based on what the guys over at castboolits are coming up with. -
Yeah, didn't mid south just drop primers this week. I'm pretty sure one of the discord alerts was for them.

Where did you take his class? Would love to try to get him at my local range but I don't have the time to set something up.

Is lack of ammo starting to hurt participation?
Intheshaw1 replied to -JCN-'s topic in USPSA/IPSC Shooting
Agreed. If it goes to spending half a day to shoot 70 rounds, I'll find something else to do. Would much rather shoot 150 round match once a month than 70 every week. -
Thanks. I've been looking at buying one before and will now just print it instead. I was looking at attaching to a tumbler to speed up the sorting as I've seen in a few videos.

Which version and does it work? I've had my 2 printers running 10 plus hours a day printing some useful things and some random things that I found online. They pay for themselves pretty quickly.

It's a very quick print, I printed your armorer's plate as well. Hoping to try them out this weekend. And man, I just got my 3d printer and it's nice to print stuff for like 10 cents.

Anybody else sorry they bought a Dillon 750?

Or just put a beer fridge out in the garage and spend some time 'organizing' after you're done loading haha -
Even paying market gun broker prices, you still save money and likely more than paying market ammo prices. Look at 9mm, primer for 15 cents, bullet for 10 and powder for 3 and that's 28 cents a round. Most 9mm is going for 80-90 cents a round so you'd be saving over 50 cents a round compared to before covid you would only be saving 6 cents or less a round.

I just got sad reading all the old prices lol.

DAA Primafill - Interesting New Option
Intheshaw1 replied to cjmill87's topic in non-Dillon Reloading Equipment
I don't, only small primers for now. I ended up just buying 12 feet of aluminum tubing for primer tubes and printed the ends for it. The primer filler has options for both but I have no means to try large. The plans do have the holes slightly undersized so you can slowly open it up until the primers drop in so it may work for you. -
DAA Primafill - Interesting New Option

Yeah, I just 3d printed my own and used a motor off Amazon and it's a lot stronger than the vibra prime. -
I have this same issue. When training and competing, my last phrase before I start is 'grip hard.' this brings my thoughts on grip to front of mind and usually works well. I also do some strength training but I'm about to make some of those fat dumbbell grips to continue to improve my grip

Is that the shipped price? I googled the name and looks like a different company's website is all I see. And with this advertising I hope they are going to become a vendor here.

Man, if you think that is wordy and lawyer speak I hope you never read a legal document as those are 100x worse. Unfortunately it's the world we live in when people are sue crazy.

If things dont improve for components, I'll be running the new wrist rocket division in 2022.... But I think production is dying because it's not really production and it's really impossible to be. If you want it to be production you have to run bone stock guns but the playing field will never be level. They should just roll production into l10 at this point. Ill likely be playing in CO this year provided by dot holds up all year. Otherwise I'll probably be running limited or limited minor. I play for fun and right now reloading isn't what I'm focusing on. I'll probably shoot production once this year for a change of pace but it's all with the same gun so for me it's all different types of training.

I have a gen 4 and a gen 5 17 as well as a gen 5 34 and see no real difference in accuracy. I have an aftermarket threaded barrel for my gen 4 and didn't notice any difference with that either. I think your gen 3 will be fine for what you're trying to do.

I usually pack enough and then some in my range bag an leave an ammo can in the truck with some more just in case. For USPSA I'll likely carry 2x what I need but for 3gun the cart fills up faster so I tend to being 1.5 times what I need and leave some in the truck. Honestly, I've always done it this way and never run out but I have helped out fellow shooters a few times who did have to borrow some from me. Granted that was last year when we were in the land of plentiful ammo, this year unless you're a good friend your SOL.

It's all about social media now and driving sales. Metrics can be easily tracked to see if you're performing or not. Winning only gains followers but you still have to close the sale. But it seems likely that he may want to focus more on school right now vs shooting but that's only speculation. As good as he is now, it would be hard to turn it into a lifelong career in shooting. More likely to get a degree and work in the industry.

The great primer shortage of 2020 is about to end soon !!!

That's crazy. Not like he's gouging if people are bidding it up
