  1. my mpx started life as an 8" pistol and it's pinned and welded with a taccom aluminum extension and it is much less front heavy than the pcc version, for better or worse
  2. placed my order last night. i'd been playing with springs and such, and couldn't easily get both a lighter trigger and proper reset. I'm hoping this is that answer for some revolver action this year
  3. So I'm planning on traveling to see my brother who lives in Chattanooga the weekend of March 19/20 next month and i'm sorta itching to shoot an outdoor match as it's still all frozen up here. Anyone aware of any USPSA matches in the area that weekend? or practical shotgun or practical rifle or sporting clays, really anything outside!
  4. I absolutely loved the Hard as Hell 2018 match i shot, but that hasnt been back since the changes at sups range. texas 3gun is a great rifleman's match. haven't shot SMM3G yet.
  5. nothing like a major in new england sadly. there's a few bigger matches in PA but we've gotta travel a lot farther than that now for anything i'd call a major match. semi locally there's a few single day matches in RI, Wallum Lake being the most frequent, and Pemi 3g in NH
  6. just be careful with that as local clubs might have more specific rules. there's a local club that built a large safe table area in the parking lot and requires you to unbag to a cart at a safe table.
  7. I agree, I started with the RN because it's what i had on hand but i've settled on either everglades JHP or RMR JHP, they both feed great and keep the lead away from the powder. i measured the seating depth from a previous major load for an approximation on case volume rather than OAL when i was swapping brands or weights to get a rough starting point when working up a new major load. if i recall my124 jhp length is somewhere around 1.130 i also really like JHP for major because i use federal SRP that are silver in color for major. my minor loads are all fiocchi or winchester and are gold in color, and are pretty now pretty much always a RN projectile. so if i find a stray JHP with a silver primer i know it's only for the open gun. also i'd recommend your target be about 170pf for some wiggle room. finding out halfway through a match that you're shooting open minor would really suck!
  8. i sent all my mags to Bevin Grams for his reshaping work on the tubes and his guts and they run CZC basepads for both 140 and 170. That didn't change the fit any just reliability. But lots of people find their CZ chambers to be on the short side so you'll want to plunk and free spin test it at whatever length you like, mine never had a problem but a friend's did.
  9. I've loaded out to 1.165" with a FMJ RN and they run fine in my mags at that length.
  10. for most matches as long as it's safely in the holster you're good, but you'll want to check with the MD to make sure as so much of this game is outlaw. USPSA multigun might require all retention systems engaged like USPSA but i couldn't find it at least in section 5.2.1 of multigun equipment rules, and they do specifically allow thigh rigs in multigun so there are differences for sure.
  11. I wouldn't over think it and definitely wouldn't re-engineer it. Just keep it wet in and out and it'll wipe clean frequently before it can get too carboned up. Jp had an article about the quality of their coating being much better than the early short lived versions
  12. basically same experience here, probably 1000 rounds or so on mine, latest version as well, i run it wet as well, no signs of wear or chipping on mine yet. running SCS, jp 3 port, adjusted rifle gas. Would i do it again? swapping between on the bench it does produce a smaller recoil impulse, but after the buzzer i doubt i'd notice as i had previously ran their steel LMOS carrier. shooting from weird positions on long range targets is when i appreciate it the most i thinkl. but were i to do it all again i'd probably just get a second steel lightweight carrier and likely never think much about the bcg outside extractor things again. for a good deal? sure why not. but i do keep my steel carrier with me as a backup just in case. what i think i remember reading about aluminum bcg wearing was more in the bolt chamber with gas erosion and seal ring problems than external wear causing issues
  13. I'm running a Dissident KL12 instead, but my gun hates the fiocci slugs as well, but not for extraction reasons rather the mushy soft hull that extends so far past the slug, it'll get ovaled from being stacked in a magazine 'sideways' and wont fit into the chamber. love them in tube guns though. my box fed go to for slugs is federal low recoil, the hull is hard enough to live in a 20 round stack and still chamber and they shoot consistently in my experience. the hornady low recoil are pretty similar as well.
  14. I do try to go direct any time possible to avoid layovers, especially flying into the match as i generally can't spend a day or two before the match at the destination should something happen, but it seems from Boston most flights to match areas around the country west of the Appalachians are not direct. I did have one episode flying back from vegas through chicago with my 3gun gear, nothing was rescheduled or anything odd, had enough of a layover to sit down and eat, yet when i arrived my guns never arrived. they couldn't even tell me where they were. i got a call at 2am that they'd arrived and i had to go back after work to get them. that couldve screwed me if it happened flying into the match. Last year i started putting Tile luggage trackers inside each case. It lets me track some of its movement in the airport, but i have always been able to see if they are loaded under the plane before takeoff. now it doesn't get me my luggage if they didn't make it but i can start planning if things are going wrong. the apple version is much better but it only works with apple stuff.
  15. that's essentially what i do for my 3gun travel, i got the idea from Dan Sierpina who's been traveling that way for a decades. i use the straight body skb golf shell with a 48" soft bag for the 2 long guns and 3 other pockets for pistol and essential mags, like cz czechmate mags since nobody else will have them to borrow. comes in just under 50 pounds too, with a dissident kl12 shotgun and 9.5 pound ar. i exchanged all the latches to keyed latches, and i lock the zippers inside with non tsa locks, though i've been thinking of building external riveted panels for keyed locks outside instead. two things i've learned doing it is that the bottom flat end wants some reinforcement so i made a wooden plate that sits flat against it, and even though it's rather incognito through an airport compared to a pelican case, it can be TOO incognito like the time some a-hat grabbed it from oversize bag area and started walking away thinking it was his golf bag, thank god i was right there. it's got a few small but obvious stickers adorning it now.
  16. hah serously though! you have to shift your whole attitude around them or just go away. i love the game of clays with my uspsa friends though. I think the trap guys are the worst at that actually.
  17. haha nice! 43x that i won at a match or bodyguard 380
  18. what are the chances they'll bring it stateside?
  19. should have specified that when he told me about the 26" rule he was referencing a supposed rule barring barrels shorter than 26", not an exact length
  20. My friend has worn out a few disconnector springs in his eclipse triggers in mpx, but they're all the older style disconnector. they added some material at the back to help overcompressing the spring. i've read they'll send the updated one if you own the old version, i gotta get a couple for mine.
  21. So I've been dabbling with sporting clays a few years now at a few local venues and love it. Golf with a shotgun, just without the beers. I started with my old Ithaca 37 then brought out my old stoeger 3gun shotgun, and a cheap over/under. Since i bought my Dissident KL12 i've mostly been shooting her because it's just fun to shoot honestly. I've been shooting my best scores with the AK shotgun and now prefer to shoot her, but usually bring the crappy over/under just in case i get flak for the 'tactical' gun even though it's by a long shot the highest performance shotgun i own, and it fits me the best. I always bring a bunch of mags to load pairs. Last weekend was really the only time i've actually gotten flak for it. The guy said they usually don't allow "Fxxx around guns like that" (which a KL12 is anything but, didn't want to get into it with the guy) and he mentioned a 26" barrel rule. Where does that 26" silliness come from? Is it just fudds not liking things that aren't common to that game or is there a more interesting history to prohibiting shooting defensive or more tactical or compact type shotguns?
  22. I set my CM up for open and never want to have to take off the optic mount and rezero. if i could weld it to the frame i would. besides, lim major is just an excuse to go buy another gun!
  23. I have a Steiner p4xi 1-4 that has fantastic glass for the money, i bought it for $400 years ago and wish i'd bought 2 at that price. Steiner also makes a T5xi 1-5 that might be worth looking through.
