  1. might be worth trying something like Berry's 100 grain 9mm hollow base projectile with the same volume of reasonably slow powders you're using already
  2. ok that's a really cool page, very interesting data presentation options, thanks!
  3. i made a couple dummy moons with no powder or primer and filled the primer pocket with hot glue to hopefully prevent premature firing pin damage. works pretty well for any dry fire including a reload.... which with revo is pretty much all of it right?
  4. well, thank you for trying, i appreciate it.
  5. oh if that happens my 929 is getting a new hat right away
  6. Thank you, i appreciate it. i'll give them a call and talk with them.
  7. So evolution is already who my builder uses but they didn't have any color recommendations elsewhere. But a friend came across ABprototype and it looks like pretty much what I had in mind. Hoping one of you may have some experience with then perhaps? https://www.abprototype.com/pvd-coating-tin-blue/
  8. I have an xds 9 mod2 osp that I bought for the optic ability since I like my xds45 so much but I'm not liking the mod2 grip shape or texture near as much. Do any of you know if I were to get a first gen xds 9 would my mod2 slide interchange with it? Thanks!
  9. thanks, i'll have to get in touch with them and go from there.
  10. So my build is nearing completion and i was hoping to get the barrel PVD coated in a blue color something like Vaportech's 'vivid blue'. my builder works with a DLC company but has no experience with any color PVD offerings. I found one company's website, Firearm Finishing in Minnesota that looks to offer the bright blue i'm looking for but I'm all new to this industry so have no idea if they're any good or not. Do any of you have recommendations for companies to look into that can PVD color blue a single barrel? thanks!
  11. i got a few different heavy round nose projectiles to test out for my 929 and of the coated 160-165gr i picked the blue bullets because of the pointy nose. i wanted the pointiest shape to minimize side bounce on a poor moon toss at the cylinder. i don't know how much it matters anyway since i may screw up the rest of the reload, but i'm liking them so far.
  12. if you're gonna play with extra light bullets, look into berry's 100gr hollow base projectiles, they're hollow base makes it longer so you don't have to load super short. i ran a czechmate for many years in 3gun and uspsa, pretty much only shot majjor ammo, didn't want to mess with the gun switching loads. but i also didn't want to set up multiple open guns for each game. but that's what i'd do now if i were starting over. i'd very much consider something like an older sti steelmaster designed to shoot minor, they're lighter for all the non pistol portions of 2 and 3 gun games, and still fast and flat. but now i'd probably go with something designed like the staccato xc or whatever atlas has the shorty comp and put a slide mounted optic on top. that way for the 2/3 gun games you can much more easily run a retention holster.
  13. i shot a bunch of the eley 38sc through a friend's borrowed open gun this year when mine was dead and it both felt and chrono'd nearly the same as his reloaded ammo. it'd certainly be a consideration for me if i weren't reloading. or even just for majors since it's uspsa certified ammo.
  14. I put Toolguy's RevUp DAO hamer kit in my 929 and i love it. might be worth looking into if you're going to be using factory ammo.
  15. looks good, that's a sweet pistol. the local revo Mclass guy i try to emulate uses 38 short colt brass so they extract and reload faster. get your points, we're all slow vs bottom feeders!
  16. oh those look like what i've been thinking of whittling from a block in my head, with a beavertail and everything, might just have to try them out, thanks!
  17. just pick up a cheap carbine rifle bag and swap it unfolded at a safe table for the duration to the match. no question of issue unless you unfold it backwards (normal?) at safe table.
  18. i'd love to try a pump that runs vepr mags as i'm invested in that platform already but i haven't seen one yet. i do have a mossberg 590m and it's cool in its own way, but pretty heavy, no chokes, and the mag retention seems good but it's not fast being rock n lock. still fun though. how's the action feel?
  19. that's what my czechmate did when the mount loosened up the first time, windage was fine but it spread way out vertically.
  20. so i got the bite and positech grips a couple days apart and never got to live fire the bite before i just ran the positechs. the bite is more square like an oldschool 2011 grip, and in my hands the very small time left some hot spots at the edges of the raised pattern so i was going to soften them a touch but wanted to wait to mess with it until i received the other set coming. got the positechs and immediately loved the feel so live fire tested first with them and have thus far stayed. the positechs also need the top grip panel bushings to be swapped to slim size so swapping between the two grips was a little annoying trying to a/b. but positechs are not a 2011 shape copy, just an interestingly contoured grip that both funnels your hands up the gun and has a really good rear facing grippy surface that my weak hand grabs right onto. the bite grips dig in well too but i just never got into testing them properly. both sets can be weighted up. i added about 4.5 ounces of lead shot in epoxy in my positechs so i'm just under max weight. i may find that after shooting 2011s the bite tuned to my hand offers a more seamless transition between them, and i'll check it out when i get there. looks like they sell a grip tape version now too that i may have to try.
  21. I'm running the Techwell Posi-tech grips on my 1911 and love them. i found the lok bogies on my cz to be ok but these to be grippier, and i absolutely love the shape that funnels your hands up higher and the awesome shelf area on the weak hand side is exactly where i want the most agressive part. https://techwellusa.com/g10-positec-ergonomic-grips.html the one thing i found was my medium hand size didnt always deactivate the grip safety so i pinned it and problem solved. i also am getting into the 2011 platform soon so i got the SSI bite grip too but so far prefer the positech. we'll see if that changes after getting to know 2011s.
  22. high cap divisions, especially open i disassemble any mag that touches the ground and run a brush through it at least. i've been trying to see how long my 1911 mags will go without cleaning since theyre a pita to clean at matches and there's so many of them but it's been pretty good so far. i shake them out well and bring a spray can of air just in case but haven't really needed the air yet. of course theyre getting pretty nasty looking inside so i'm just going to clean them soon anyway.
  23. i wonder would the new DAA flex holster be adjustable to fit the gp? i'm not familiar with the dimensions that might prevent that but the trigger guard holding pieces are very adjustable.
