  1. The XD was a great gun when it was the $250 HS2000, for what they are charging for them now there are better guns to choose, There have been some improvements but most of these were geared towards the larger calibers Americans felt like they must have. The gun also came out during the full capacity magazine ban days. Shooters were buying 9mm's with available pre 1994 full capacity magazines. For quite some time and maybe it still is, Springfield would not give anyone but a Springfield dealer any parts, this doesnt help your gun become popular with competitive shooters. I have never heard any complaints about the XD's reliability and accuracy in stock form, but it has a very high bore axis, for sports where speed is important there are simply better tools for the job.

    Real 1911s

Real 1911's are carried in a flap holster
  3. You want to use a gun with crappy trigger and horrendous un zeroed sights that sprays rounds everywhere is heavy and bulky as a carry gun ? Sell it and suddenly your budget increases a couple hundred dollars. I guess gun wise it really comes down to what you want the gun to do and what games you want to play. Cardboard and paper dont require much extra pop, The .40 is very versatile though especially since you reload, you can download it for games and divisions centered around the 9mm, or upload it to major and shoot USPSA Limited or Limited 10 or Singlestack bowling pins or just general blasting. Since you are just starting out I would suggest versatility, and something mainstream that you could sell if your tastes change, Usually there are reasons you see the same handful of guns at matches over and over. If I was starting all over from scratch I would buy a S&W M&P 5" gun in 9mm, and go shoot the snot out of it.
  4. The scale used has to be accurate to + or - .2 oz, any scale used at a sanctioned match needs to be calibrated in some way, but the wording isnt perfect, simplest thing is to calibrate the scale, and give the shooter the plus .2, Its just not that critical a difference. Have you thought about putting the IDPA box on the scale, zero'ing the scale and have a stage with an unloaded magazine start from in the box,
  5. uh actually no I havent, your last thread I was given just a link to a websight that didnt have the info either,,, I just checked and the websight has been updated,, thats great, always cool to have another option to shoot, even if it is a bit of a drive, hope you guys do great and get to the point you are full every month.
  6. well no, IDPA scoring is much more accuracy dependent, Basically a "C" zone hit is a down 1 which is equivalent to half a second. You cant miss fast enough to win in IDPA, A C zone hit in USPSA in a typical 100 point stage will only cost you a tenth of a second. A,C on each target is just about an ideal balance between speed and accuracy and give you that 90% of available points. The math, shooter A shoots 100 points in 15 seconds for a HF of 6.66 In order to beat him hitting only 10 A's and 10 C's you only have to be 1.6 seconds faster on the hole stage and can hit 10 Charlies, A ten target IDPA stage Shooter A, all zero's in fifteen second, score is 15 Shooter B hits ten down zero's and ten down 1's, he would have to do that more than 5 seconds faster to win.
  7. Just checking, You are using "Clays" and not Universal Clays ?
  8. Hit the mag release with the heal, right below the thumb of your weak hand, the weak hand index finger slides down the front strap and catches the magazine base pad and pushes it out of the gun if for some reason the mag doesnt drop free.
  9. You guys need to read my thread and get the chip off your shoulders, I havent insinuated anything other than you might get left without being able to get bullets when you need them. I stated a couple facts, Fact, No credit cards,,, kinda odd in this day and age of internet shopping, Fact, Websight wasnt great and "LEFT ME WONDERING" as in Me, I , Myself, I didnt know the owner all I knew was the websight. Fact, Outdated molds, So if listing a couple FACTS and then stating I wouldnt shop there, is offensive so be it I guess you guys will be offended at the verdict I made.
  10. a soft brass case isnt really holding much in, it's the steel barrel and breachface thats holding the pressure, Despite the fact it is kinda pointless, Millions of .40 major loads are shot every year, the big why not is making .40 out of 10mm cases is extremely dangerous, as in life or limb get somebody killed dangerous. .40 wss designed around 9mm sized handguns, there is a reason the 40 uses a small primer instead of the large primer of the 10mm, it is to provide clearance for the ejector of many of the 40's built on frames originally designed around 9mm's. Do a brisk unload of a loaded round and you end up with the primer of one of these shortened 10mm cases hitting the ejector. Not a good thing, especially when there is nothing to gain and a bunch of work.
  11. If you say, Low light or no light stages in the match announcement and let people show up with what they want. If they dont bring a light ? Oh well sucks for them, better beg borrow or steal one, Cant speak for other sports and you didnt mention a specific game but if it is USPSA and you attach a light to the gun, Welcome to open, If your shooting Open the rules say attaching a light is allowed. an on that token a match director cant tell you not to use one either.

  13. Shorten your ammo, Paras run best on factory length ammo.
  14. A kid I would allow to shoot a .22 as long as they wanted., An adult tag along, definitely once, maybe twice, after that uh sorry you need to get sport appropriate gear. Nothing wrong with New shooter night or weekend non sanctioned events, I know clubs that hold back up gun events which make simple no reload stages, usually little to no movement, and are expressly marketed as a bring your wife kid friend out match. You also see the regulars show up with different items, I shot one with a cap and ball 1858 remington once. However if you use the "USPSA" name and market it as a USPSA match you should stick to USPSA rules.
  15. You assumed "Best" powders,,, but didnt list best for what ? What application ? what gun? comped or not, short barrel long barrel, bullet weights ? games? The.40 is such a popular game round because it is so versatile, describing your application will really help get you more relevant replies.
  16. The only thing that has really been an issue is 38 super comp brass, which up to several months ago was basically unobtanium, Quite a few good open guns got sold, relisted, resold, resold again as people found out it was impossible to get brass. Not sure if any is out there now or not.
  17. I thought a single stack was something on the breakfast menu at IHOPS
  18. Cerakote and moly resin vs, Bladetech holsters ?
  19. but then they usually stumble over here and we start getting the question posts.
  20. pick a start load from a manual and get to work with the chrono, your gun combo is gonna make your results different from most .40 shooters. But based on my experience and what I expect to happen, I dont like any of the powders you have mentioned. But I would concentrate on the 320. Its a little slower than the 700 and your extra inch and a half of barrel over the norm may help you pick up some velocity and back off the charge a bit. As long as you stay subsonic I dont think you will ever notice a difference in shooting the 180's.. If you do decide to go with a different bullet I'd go all the way up to 200 grain bullets. You may beed to go to a powder that takes up less room in the case like titegroup.
  21. Arkansas ? I dont think we have a cap and ball division,,, your gun will probably be more competitive shooting production .40 minor, since you can reload. No reason for a 9mm
  22. There are two failure to shoot at procedural penalties, and 4 mikes most likely. Assuming you never came near shooting at the targets, The targets in question you didnt shoot at, you shot at impenetrable hard cover. Ref 2.2.3.3 and 9.5.7. If you shoot at the edge of a wall and catch the wall you would just get the mike, but shooting in the middle of a long barricade when there was really no legal way to even come close to the targets to me says you didnt shoot at them. My original post I meant to say CAN'T not can,,, see rule 9.7.4 unless you were guilty of coaching later in the day once you and RO sign score sheet they can not go back and add penalties unless you agree, The honorable thing to do would be to agree once you check the rules. 4 mikes 2 fte procedurals is an accurate score.
  23. can you post the written stage briefing ? That could make a difference. But you can't go back and add penalties after a score sheet is initialed by ro and shooter. IAW 2.2.3.3 If the WSB says nothing the wall goes all the way to the ground, Full diameter bullets passing through this area would be a miss, so most likely two papaers would score 2 mikes, 2 mikes, if there was no way whatsoever the shooter could come close to hitting targets without going under barricade, he would also get 2 FTE's.
