Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I'm a C class super senior looking to go to Carry Optics from production. Only shoot at club matches and then not every month so pretty much a casual shooter. I recently bought a CANIK TP9sfx and am trying to decide on an optic. I'd like the Trijicon TSO but my budget doesn't. So, I'm strongly considering the Holosun 507. Saw the ACSS Vulcan reticle and interested in it. Watched several videos and read reviews from primary arms. It sounds good. I also have a primary arms scope on my AR that has a similar reticle. So wondering if anyone runs this in CO and their thoughts. My concern about getting a regular dot from Holosun is the reticle size. I'm thinking the chevron would be large enough to pick up quickly and with the point be good for longer shots. Experiences or thoughts appreciated.
  2. I second at least checking the magwell fit. Last AR I built I used Anderson and it's tight with Magpul mags. If you haven't already installed the LPK you might want to go with a different lower, or open up the magwell and refinish the inside. Metal mags are fine, just pmags are tight on mine. 3. Bayou are good, I just bought Leatherwood to try them. They are GTG but a bit of a different profile. The coatings on both look good and I believe are the same, just different color. Sent from my SM-P600 using Tapatalk
  4. I'm late on this topic, but I'll put my two cents in anyway. I've shot both in production. 9mm and 40 minor. I started out shooting what I had, a SIG P226 in .40. I then decided to go with a striker fired gun and bought my M&P and stayed with a 40. Did that for a couple of years and decided to go the CZ route. So then i went 9mm. I didn't go with the SP01 Shadow, but just a regular SP01 although I did upgrades and made it pretty nice. Determined that I wasn't really shooting any better with that platform, had a buddy wanting it and I had another project I needed founding for so for now I'm back to the M&P 40. So which is better? To start with what every you have is what you should shoot. But survey's show the majority of production shooters do shoot 9mm. I have ran into a few other shooters that shot 40 and mostly they are like me, a bit older. They say a 40 minor is lighter shooting than the 9mm. Maybe so but maybe not by much. 180 gr 40's are more expensive than 147 gr 9mm by a couple of cents a round I think. Easy enough to look that up. But to me the major pain of shooting the 40 is picking up brass. If you wait to the end of the stage or match to police brass, you are going to look at a lot of 9mm to find your 40's. I'm thinking of buying a M&P in 9 myself.
  5. I have the Ghost pouches facing out. Just measured my setup. The bases are 1 7/8" each. Five of them on the belt take up 9 1/2". Measured the outside edges and because of the arc they were 12". You're might be less or more. These are my first mag pouches on a double belt. Before that I just had a couple of double pouches on a single belt. I didn't have any trouble transitioning to them. But I'm a low level shooter. But they didn't cost me anything and I doubt they really helped me all that much. One thing about them is they have a plastic part in them and plastic screws. I haven't had any issues with them, but that may be why some say they are cheaply made. I have ran mags for CZ SP-01, M&P and SIG P226 in them with no adjustments.
  6. Hello to you from Northern Arkansas. The guys are correct about the reloading info on this forum. There are other good forums, but if you are into USPSA or IDPA, you will get more specific info that will help you here.

    Barney?

You need to watch the reruns and you'll soon know. He was only allowed one bullet and had to carry it in his pocket until needed, for good reason! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I don't think you will see that much difference. I have both. The 650 hasn't proved itself to be that much better to me. But the case feeder is nice to have. But I still have stoppages that slow me down and I have more problems with primers with the Dillon. You'll probably have others who have better results with the Dillon than me.
  9. Interested in the thread as I'm going to build a new upper at least. But I'll comment on the Primary Arms 1-6 scope. Ordered the other day, received noon yesterday. Mounted it up and sighted in in at 25yds and headed to a night shoot. I knew the longest shot would be 50 yds. I tried it in full sun and was able to see the the illuminated reticle just fine. At night I thought I'd turn the brightness down after the 50 yds shots and turned it completely off while moving to my next position. Didn t matter that much. I was able to see the black reticle just fine. That's my experience so far and I was very happy with my choice. Of course I haven't shot at distance yet.
  10. I have the SP01 that I am upgrading as I can. Sights should be 1st. I didn't do it that way, but wish I had. Just put Cajun fiber front and fixed target rear on last week. You will only need a hammer, punch and some locktite and you should be good to go. Oh, and some sand paper and a bit of time. I shot this morning with a friend who had a stock cz 75. I couldn't believe the difference my sights made between the two. My action is nicer of course, but I shot both at 15 yds and it was the sights that made the most difference. I have the Cajun sear, race hammer and spring set. But those sights are most important for quick target acquisition at any distance. Great guns, for sure. I've handled a couple that were shadow smooth with some work.
  11. I know It's not what you are looking for, but a 357 Sig gets you close and you can pick your poly brand. You do lose some capacity, but get more than a 45. But I too have wondered why 38 Super isn't available. Poly frame should absorb some of the recoil. I think it would be a good self defense round too.
  12. Take a look. http://ultimatereloader.com/2010/09/19/rcbs-lock-out-die-part-i-theory-of-operation/
  13. Horndy sizer and seater, Powderfunnels ptx, rcbs lockout die, and lee taper crimp. I don't use the FCD because I do lead. Tried the Hornady powder check and didn't like it. The rcbs lockout stops you if your load is out enough to be a major problem.
