  1. I think they are only making rail guns, which would suck a little less if they actually updated the dealers and websights, On my recommendation a friend bought a witness, no mention was made of rail until it arrived. Oh and just wonderful, no holsters anywhere that will fit.
  2. any metal on the frame under the grips you can remove ? Sorta like the caspian framed 1911's.
  3. We are talking a .45 Widebody, they hold 10 +1 so were not shooting with less rounds than the 9mm guys, IDPA limits mag capacity to 10.
  4. You want a fast powder that takes up alot of room in the case,,, Clays would probably be ideal,
  5. I see this gun is finally showing up at gunbroker,,,, listed way over MSRP, but thats beside the point. Anyone had a chance to play with one ? been looking for a back country trail gun in 22 magnum, all I am finding are snub noses or big heavy steel guns,,,
  6. There's a big thread somewhere on .40 open that gets into all the different mag setups,,,, I can get 22+1 in a mag just slightly over the limited gauge, I think the 170's are getting about 25.
  7. You'll need an ejector, and sInce you said, IDPA, you will also need a different slide stop,,, really the top end switcheroo makes almost no sense whatsoever on any gun. By the time you buy all the parts, and especially if you are paying for fitting these parts, you could have another gun, Yes it can be done but there isnt any advantage, You'll end up messing up your frame to slide fit to the current slide and basically have two topends that dont fit well. You have the ultimate gamer ESP gun already, down load some 180 gr .45 ACP loads to 130 ish power factor and put big giant holes in the cardboard with almost zero recoil.
  8. uhhhh no, there are no local rules in USPSA,,, You didnt mention the sport you were shooting. In one sport, you will get alot of the ,"in a big match this, well next time that stuff, In USPSA you either broke the rule or you didnt, If the muzzel didnt exceed 90 degrees of the median of the back stop dont worry about it, I'd ask the RO not to worry about it either, get your rule book and learn your rule book.
  9. I think it would just be a matter of A GM trying, A .40 open wouldnt be best for match use and the round count may get you on many stages here and there, but I honestly dont see why it would make any difference on qualifiers, seems almost all qualifiers are either less than what a typical 170mm .40 mag (or even 140mm mag for that matter) can hold or have mandatory reloads. Now the cool thing would be to do it with an open revolver.
  10. 10.4.5, A shot which occurs while transferring a handgun between hands. This may have come into play on shooter one, I wasnt the RO so not sure when the round went off, if it was after the transfer or during as determined by the RO on the scene.
  11. I dont think bandwagon effect has anything to do with it, The XD has been around a lot longer than the M&P, The M&P is showing up all over the place.
  12. zero nearest club is about 2 hours,, and I live in a gun friendly state full of shooters, just cant seem to get any clubs going.
  13. I wonder if IDPA's decision to only allow the XD in ESP and make it shoot against customized 2011's and 1911's is hindering its use.
  14. http://www.fpdinc.com if you have the money and the part they can make it, might be a bit pricey, I use titanium firing pins, hammer struts, and mainspring caps, those are readily available from Brownell's , At one time Caspian made titanium slides, I have heard they are a beast to work with.
  15. I generally find a readily available factory load my gun likes in case I have to buy factory ammo somewhere, however I wouldnt intentionally try to duplicate factory ammo, especially the cheap stuff, as you noted the recoil is greater than it needs to be, most likely due to a slow burning powder, Pick up some Titegroup and load to the power factor you want and you'll never be happy with factory ammo again.
  16. The XD was a great gun when it was the $250 HS2000, for what they are charging for them now there are better guns to choose, There have been some improvements but most of these were geared towards the larger calibers Americans felt like they must have. The gun also came out during the full capacity magazine ban days. Shooters were buying 9mm's with available pre 1994 full capacity magazines. For quite some time and maybe it still is, Springfield would not give anyone but a Springfield dealer any parts, this doesnt help your gun become popular with competitive shooters. I have never heard any complaints about the XD's reliability and accuracy in stock form, but it has a very high bore axis, for sports where speed is important there are simply better tools for the job.

    Real 1911s

Real 1911's are carried in a flap holster
  18. You want to use a gun with crappy trigger and horrendous un zeroed sights that sprays rounds everywhere is heavy and bulky as a carry gun ? Sell it and suddenly your budget increases a couple hundred dollars. I guess gun wise it really comes down to what you want the gun to do and what games you want to play. Cardboard and paper dont require much extra pop, The .40 is very versatile though especially since you reload, you can download it for games and divisions centered around the 9mm, or upload it to major and shoot USPSA Limited or Limited 10 or Singlestack bowling pins or just general blasting. Since you are just starting out I would suggest versatility, and something mainstream that you could sell if your tastes change, Usually there are reasons you see the same handful of guns at matches over and over. If I was starting all over from scratch I would buy a S&W M&P 5" gun in 9mm, and go shoot the snot out of it.
  19. The scale used has to be accurate to + or - .2 oz, any scale used at a sanctioned match needs to be calibrated in some way, but the wording isnt perfect, simplest thing is to calibrate the scale, and give the shooter the plus .2, Its just not that critical a difference. Have you thought about putting the IDPA box on the scale, zero'ing the scale and have a stage with an unloaded magazine start from in the box,
  20. uh actually no I havent, your last thread I was given just a link to a websight that didnt have the info either,,, I just checked and the websight has been updated,, thats great, always cool to have another option to shoot, even if it is a bit of a drive, hope you guys do great and get to the point you are full every month.
  21. well no, IDPA scoring is much more accuracy dependent, Basically a "C" zone hit is a down 1 which is equivalent to half a second. You cant miss fast enough to win in IDPA, A C zone hit in USPSA in a typical 100 point stage will only cost you a tenth of a second. A,C on each target is just about an ideal balance between speed and accuracy and give you that 90% of available points. The math, shooter A shoots 100 points in 15 seconds for a HF of 6.66 In order to beat him hitting only 10 A's and 10 C's you only have to be 1.6 seconds faster on the hole stage and can hit 10 Charlies, A ten target IDPA stage Shooter A, all zero's in fifteen second, score is 15 Shooter B hits ten down zero's and ten down 1's, he would have to do that more than 5 seconds faster to win.
  22. Just checking, You are using "Clays" and not Universal Clays ?
