  1. Last match I watched a guy get a center zone hit with 38 super and the popper stayed up. First shot on the steel so the hit was clear. Called for a calibration and a 9mm knocked it over. How is that fair?
  2. No but a full diameter hit on the activator that does not fall would be grounds for a re=shoot.
  3. Thanks. I never thought of that. Sight focus is what I need.
  4. All this would be unnecessary if steel got painted after each shooter and full diameter hits is the calibration zone were sufficient for score.
  5. Make sure they are nailed all the way down. Saw a guy slice his shin open down to the bone today. 8 to 10" wound. First shooter first squad on stage. Got me thinking of all the spikes I have seen sticking up 1/2"-1" and thought nothing of it. Would have been DQ'd either way as his shotgun did a 180 straight at me as it hit the ground. Slipped in the muddy conditions around a corner. First shooter on our squad. After medical treatment I helped the Match Director rework the stage to eliminate the problem terrain.
  6. Drop down and sweep to the rear. Grab the first mag you touch. Repeat as needed.
  7. 6 Dawson Tuned STI's. Getting ready to upgrade to Gramms followers and springs.
  8. Filmed my buddy's Edge fly out of his BladeTech speed holster while running with a shotgun. Buried itself in 3" of sand. DQ.
  9. Your eye is not centering correctly in the rear peep. I have the same issue if I do not make a conscious effort to correct it.
  10. I have an STI Eagle 9 for 3Gun/Idpa. Has the Dawson CRP upgrades added after purchase. Runs great with 9 and 7# recoil springs. Also have an Edge with Dawson upgrades and Dawson Tuned mags. Flawless with PMC 164 gr and Win Training 180gr. both loads are like 173PF and shoot soft.
  11. Strange that Dawson does not recommend a buff for the 2011 but they manufacture an aluminum buff.
  12. Shoot really fast and don't miss. But seriously, TAKE YOUR TIME. You are going to see a lot of guys really burning it up. Don't try to keep up. Shot your own stages at your own pace. Once you have some experience under your belt you can start speeding up.
  13. Shot with both eyes for years but occasionally it messes with me. Going through a rough patch right now. Close targets are no problem but out past 15 yards or so I need to close one to get a sharp sight picture.
  14. I agree reloading after arrays makes a lot more sense than trying to count rounds.
  15. I have access to a SIRT pistol (3 actually) but I shoot STI's so the grip and draw is going to be detrimental to my practice. Not to mention the triggers on the SIRTS are horrible. I have heard the same airsoft story about Stoeger.
  16. Thinking about one of the cartridge lasers. Any thoughts?
  17. You could try using an arches or wedge mainspring housing to help replicate the Glock grip angle.
  18. If I could only have one I would go with an Eagle in 40. You can cross over for IDPA and shoot major in USPSA. Works for 3Gun as well. Dawson CRP is really just a standard STI with some added parts and a chrome finish which is nice.
  19. I have tried the wedge and prefer the arched. Flat makes the gun point too low for me with a single stack. With my 2011 the ICE magwell work like an arched housing and I get a good presentation.
  20. 12 lb recoil spring in my Edge 40. Using Wilson Shok-Buf as the aluminum ones get beat up pretty fast.
  21. Had an RO yell at me to "Watch the 180" in the middle of a stage. I actually paused and checked and I was no where near close. After the stage I asked why he yelled that and he said "Well it looked like you were maybe going to break it." I had at least 45 degrees to go before breaking it. Probably cost me a second and a brake in my concentration for the stage. I was reloading moving right to left and he was behind to my right so I doubt he could even see my gun.
  22. Started with Glocks 15 years ago. Moved to SS/L10 with 1911's. Took 8 years off and now back in with a pair of STI's and loving it. Sure they need more care than a Glock but just feel's right with a 1911/2011 platform.
  23. Percentage does not really mean much without the time. I recently shot a match where I shot 32 A on all targets for 2 stages but I got crushed on TIME by guys hitting A/C. I was shooting Minor so I needed the points. Since switched to shooting Major. Turned up the speed and shot less Alphas but hit factor improved considerably. I did Zero the Qualifier last week seeing how fast I could go. Pretty fast if I want 6 Mikes! % Alphas 83% Minor 66% Major 66% Major 64% Major
