  1. " Taccom's is stiff enough to overcome the acceleration of the bolt/buffer system and re-extend the head while it's returning to battery." This is the part I question. When I insert the Taccom the "head" is compress tight against the rest of the body forward against the buffer retainer due to the force of the recoil spring. So what if anything is that stage actually doing?
  2. Unloaded starts are from bolt closed hammer down. So unless you spend time locking the bolt back before you start seating the mag there is not going to be a difference. I have seen younger shooters lock back as they have problems stuffing in a full mag. Solution would be to downdload the mag a few rounds. My main mag holds 57 but I can download it 7-10 rounds and still have way more than I need in a stage.
  3. You will have to seat the mag on a closed bolt but most people are already doing that in competition where a reload is mandated.
  4. I have a Taccom 3 stage short stroked and I get less dot movement and faster recovery.
  5. So tested again today removing the bolt weight. Recoil was considerably more noticeable and spread increased. Also tried with the carrier weight installed using a carbine flat wire spring. Had less dot movement and tighter doubles but had one instance of either hammer follow or failure to reset. Shooting a match tomorrow and my kid is shooting for the first time so I want to error on the side of reliability. Will test more later.
  6. Those springs compress as the hammer comes back. Heavier springs can slow the bolt.
  7. Are you having a Failure to Extract OR Failure to Eject? What do you mean by "chamber area?" In the chamber or floating in the action?
  8. Maybe the heavier springs are helping the bolt open slower allowing the extractor a better grip. You might consider checking the extractor/spring. Maybe replace one or both.
  9. I cracked the follower first time I ran the ETS mag so I stuck a Glock follower in. Runs fine now. Added a Mega to a borrowed KCI 31rd and it has run flawless. Glock factoryfactory mag should be here Friday. I am used to tuning 2011 mags so $30 for a Glock factory mag seems really cheap.
  10. Ok spent the last hour testing. Opinion as follows. Factory 115 gr loads 1) Better with carrier weight installed using Taccom system. Less dot movement. 2) Even better when you run a spacer below the Taccom system to reduce carrier travel. Least amount of dot movement I have seen with everything else I have tried. Downside is there is a "zone" where trigger reset is not 100% depending on how you hold the rifle. There is also a propensity for the gun to runaway if you hold too light. At first it was just doubles/triples but i when I relaxed I got a 6-8 rd burst. removed spacers one at a time until I have not been able to bumpfire it. I am definitely seeing a huge correlation between carrier travel and dot movement. Thinking of taking the carrier weight back out and repeating what I did on option 2 when I have more time.
  11. Read the entire thread and several others. Have the Taccom 3 stage arriving tomorrow using with a Faxon style bolt. Question: Shooting FACTORY ammo does anyone have experience running with and without the carrier weight removed? Thanks Tim for all your support for the shooting sports and sponsoring Nordic and Kirkwold. Was cool talking with you.
  12. In case it has not been mentioned Birchwood Casey makes a lead removal cloth that works very well.
  13. I understand that. I guess I should have been a bit clearer. As my hand got about a half inch away from the grip it pretty much launched up into my hand. The only person that could have possibly noticed it was me as I did not grab for it other than the motion of my normal draw. It just popped out and into my hand. Future issues should be solved as I ordered a Saf 014 today.
  14. CR Speed WSM series for STI Edgd. As soon as I reached for the grip as I "exploded" off the start position gun was already on its way out of the holster. Caught it just out of the holster and kept going without issue but it wrecked my mindset for the stage. It seems the forward momentum of the fully loaded gun was enough dislodge it. Same thing happened toa buddy with a Bladetech open front holster. Now looking for ideas for a new holster. I have a few in mind but I have some questions. Safariland 014 DAA Racemaster Ghost The One How positive is the retention when the lock is disengaged for stage starts? Think shaking hips back and forth vigorously with fully loaded gun.
  15. So for stage construction would it not be ok to start the shooter with 3 targets side by side at say 3 yards (tactical sequence) then make them engage a second array that are staggered distance of at least 2 yards using tactical priority? Like below. P1 = Start position T6 T5 T4 T1 T2 T3 P1
  16. My Eagle 9 runs fine with Zero tuning and just a home installed CRP package on it.
  17. Always thought DQ's were for other people until it happened to me. It did end uphelpmy focus though.
  18. My thoughts were unless the recalculate or have everyone reclassify under the new scoring there are going to be a lot of people stuck in higher divisions they are not competitive in. Its going to suck for a lot of people that are going to get beat score wise by shooters classified under them. I know it happens a bit now but it will be disheartening for some always finishing at the bottom of their class.
  19. Since you cannot go move down in Class there are going to be a lot of people in classes where if they reshoot under the new -1= 1 second rule will not make their current Classification. How is that going to work?
  20. In 40s&w PMC 40D lists 165gr @1000. Chrono for 173 in my Edge at Area 5. Win Train and Defend 180gr @ 925 is soft shooting as well and my current choice. In 9mm Federal makes a Suppressor load that is 124gr @1000fps. Chrono'd 131 in my buddies Edge at Area 5. About the same in my Eagle on my Chrono. Extremely soft shooting load.
