  1. Welcome to the forums and have fun with the beast.
  2. Ok so this isn't a dry fire drill but it isn't an ammo dump either and it helps me a lot. I am a firm believer that practicing the fundamentals helps a lot. I know its boring but putting a target at 15 to 25 yards and practicing slow bullseye really helps me. It really puts an emphasis on trigger control and sight alignment. Anyway practice this but have a buddy load a mag for you. The only trick is have him or her load a snap cap somewhere in the mag. Now you know there is a dud in your mag and will be forced to practice trigger control and anticipation or it will show really bad. Helped me a lot. When that snap cap comes up in the magazine it doesn't lie.
  3. Double is a lot for uspsa or idpa I think but it's never a bad thing to have too much. I usually plan on 1.5. I figure that gives me plenty for makes ups and a couple re shoots if needed. Shooting steel challenge is another story. Double is a good plan for that. Plus there's always that guy that didnt bring enough.
  4. Not sure how I feel about that. That's gonna have to stew for a while.
  5. My club uses PVC pipe. We are in primarily sand and the fat PVC spiked down doesn't sink and does its job well.
  6. I disagree. At one time tho I agreed with that statement. I have wide feet and the salmons broke in and fit me very very well. When i started this I wore Merrell moabs which are trail shoes. When I finally succumb to the saloman bug and got a pair I couldn't believe the traction. That being said the salomans go on right before the match and come off right after. They are comfortable but I prefer my merrells for everyday wear. As far as cleats go I hope your range doesn't use pvc pipe for fault lines. Cleats and pvc are like ice skates. If thats not an issue for you great but if you are likely to encounter pvc I really recommend against using true cleats.
  7. If the Ro doesn't tell him to stop then he is wrong in stopping. He shouldn't automatically get a re shoot. If you are stopped by the RO then you get a re shoot. I saw this at a match recently. It was a fairly new shooter and he was about to engage a target that was the third or fourth in the stage and saw that it wasn't pasted. He stopped and looked at the RO. RO didn't say anything and neither did anybody else for about 10 seconds or more (I know I know no coaching.) Finally someone said keep going and he did. When it was all said and done the holes in the cardboard were 45 and he was shooting 9. That just further confirmed that the RO was right and he lost a lot of time.
  8. Yea as far as I know its always the best hits 2 or whatever is specified.
  9. You definitely could but I would say it depends on your gun more than the inherent accuracy of a particular powder charge. That being said I have heard that a fuller case of powder can provide greater accuracy. Please anyone correct me if I'm wrong on any of this. I am in now way saying to fill the case and try it. I'm just saying that maybe the max load may be more accurate. I would start at the minimum or lower and work your way up testing accuracy as you go. Let us know what you find.
  10. When I'm pushing the gun out after my draw the safety comes off. It's part of the grip, ride the safety. Doesn't go back on after that.
  11. Very possible I shoot a club once in a while that does it very well. The matches are simple but fun and they keep the round count high. The MD likes to do 4 rounds per target.
  12. Speedcross 3. Awesome shoe. They seem to run a little narrow but that might not matter to you.
  13. Welcome. And yes you will learn a lot here. Lots of good info and plenty of brains to pick. Good luck!
  14. Yea I tried to get a bunch loaded up to get me through most of the summer. Nice idea until I started shooting way way more than I expected. Its back the the bench already. Gonna be a long hot summer loading for me.
  15. Personally I think pretty much all trigger time is fun. That being said I do much prefer USPSA. IDPA for me is time on my defense guns. Gives me the confidence that they will run and me the confidence in shooting them. There is a big difference going from a race gun to a stock glock thats in the nightstand. I like to shoot it and IDPA is much better than standing in front of a paper target at an indoor range.
  16. When shooting one handed you generally want the most natural position. For me that is canted and more so when its my weak hand.
  17. I dont flip per say I just turn the gun on its side and rack the slide. If the round falls where I think it should which is most of the time it damn near lands in my hand. If not it goes to the ground. I don't chase it, if I miss it o well and I finish showing clear and pick it up if I feel like it when the gun is holstered.
  18. I usually do a few draws and sight pictures in the safe area before the match. I still feel like thats not enough. Really need to do more draws. I always feel like I'm shaking off the cob webs on the first stage.
  19. I have to load 4.8gr of titegroup under a 180 xtreme at 1.165 out of my sti edge. That gives me 169 170 power factor. Lot of powder but it feels ok and no pressure signs. At 1.18 you prob need another .1 or 2 but always start lower and work your way up.
  20. Time during a stage is interesting to analyze. I will say the more I shoot and the better I get the slower I feel. It's not always as slow as I think it is but I never really feel like I'm at 100 percent. That being said I don't feel like I'm slow because of another shooter or I'm rushing. I just don't feel like up to my abilities and I don't have anybody to blame but myself. Just need more practice and hopefully the time thing will work itself out.
  21. I had a race master block for a 1911 that I had to fit to my gun. They're not always perfect. Saul Kirsch actually has a video on fitting the holsters. They claim it's mostly an issue with glocks but I have seen it with other guns. I would be Leary to fit it to anything other than the gun it will be used with as the tolerances are very tight. Take too much and the gun will wiggle al over the place.
