  1. I also struggle with steel so next match I am going to make this my priority. Thanks
  2. Did you ever get it figured out?
  3. It's ashame you live a couple thousand miles away from me because you would make a good training partner. It seems like every time I discover what needs the most work in my shooting, you are working on the same thing. Good luck
  4. Disclaimer...I am far from a pro and am just about to celebrate my first year of beginning USPSA. One thing I found that after shooting a couple of USPSA matches is that my trigger control became a problem because I was shooting faster than I was used to. It took me a while to identify my problem because it wasn't present if I shot really slowly (slower than your video). One thing that helped me to identify the problem was dry firing several times at 30+ yards while TRYING YOUR VERY BEST TO SIMULATE how you normally shoot. For close range, I could get away with it, but for longer range, poor trigger control reared its ugly head. For factory ammo, I found Fiocchi to be very good in the cheap stuff category in 9mm. Finally, since you already have a video on YouTube, make a copy 8x slower. I could not appreciate a flinch except maybe on shot 4, but looking at it in very slow motion may help you identify if there is a flinch you aren't aware of that is catching up with you on longer distances. Try shooting from a bench which will better help you determine the mechanical accuracy of your gun and ammo....you will never be more accurate than the mechanical accuracy of your setup.
  5. This^^^^. I am almost 1 year into shooting USPSA. In the beginning, I was told to shoot accurately and don't worry about time. My first event I got the most points on 2 or 3 stages but I was ssslllooowww so I didn't place well. After confirming that I needed to work on speed, I started shooting faster...which quickly lead to faster than I could see the sights....my times improved, but I dropped a lot more points...I did this for several matches blaming my mistakes on being new. Finally, after 5 or 6 matches, I wasn't improving that much. I then realized the error of my ways and start trying to correct bad habits. It took a lot longer for me to get back to being consistent and improving than if I would have just focused on making seeing what I needed to see from the beginning. Don't make the same mistakes as me.
  6. I have been reading this thread with a lot of interest....afraid I can't be of much help. I have held, but never shot a SV. It was very smooth and a great looking gun, but my next purchase of a .40 will most likely be an Atlas. I really like what Adam is doing there and the customer service seems to be great. After experiencing an issue that I couldn't fix myself, I really gained a new perspective on how important CS after the sale is. Good luck with the purchase.
  7. Great choice on the barrel. That's what I did when I started, but I did Production because I didn't have any trigger work. If I could do it over again, I would've done Limited..... When you're first getting the hang of the sport, to me, all the mag changes actually hurt your learning curve. Get yourself some Dawson sights or some other combo with a FO front sight and black rear. Like everyone else said really practice you're safe handling skills, especially with movements. In my opinion, before you enter a match, make sure pulling your finger out of the trigger guard when you're moving and reloading is automatic… you don't have to think about it. Also when you dry fire, set up mock stages that make you almost have to break 180 as well as move backwards so that you can practice never breaking 180....again, make it so routine you don't have to think about it, it just happens. Be prepared, once you do your first match, life is never the same. Also, make calling your shots your number two priority after safe gun handling.
  8. My experience with various coated bullets has been similar to others. Blue Bullets are the only ones that pass 100% of the time. I haven't tried Eggleson yet, but have tried almost all the others. My best guess is it has to do with the profile of the bullet. For those of you who checked the OAL with calipers on most or all of your match bullets, how much variation are you seeing with coated bullets? I am seeing greater variation with coated. Just curious if anyone else is seeing this. I load to 1.18.
  9. I recently have been experimenting with grip, elbows, shoulders, etc. I can't say my shoulders are completely externally rotated, but elbows are out more and I am concentrating on applying most of my gripping force as high as possible and there was a marked improvement in my recoil control. The best comparison I make to a pro is Sebas Pfilho. Once I tried it, that seems to work really well for me. Does anyone see problems with long-term joint health with that technique?
  10. So far I have Zero JHPs to be more accurate than anything else I have tried.
  11. I am still testing coated bullets, but I haven't found any to date that are as accurate as Zero 180 JHPs.
  12. Agree, there is a lot of great info in this thread.
  13. Although I have been shooting for 30+ years (shotguns/rifles), I have been humbled quite a bit since starting to shoot pistols (haven't even been shooting USPSA for a year yet). As a newer pistol shooter when speed is involved, that is a very interesting concept/theory that I haven't seen or thought of before. Since nothing is ingrained yet, I am going to have to give that a try. Of course, right now, everything needs work. Thanks
  14. I know I wasn't the one who requested your chrono numbers, but thanks. That is very helpful.
  15. Does anyone else have other drills/techniques they recommend?
  16. I think it is that damn Murphy.
  17. I can't speak for the G-25s, but I know MBX recommended loading the mag full with the G-15s to avoid contact. Something about it helps seat the spring. I know my followers did sit a little lower after fully loaded the mag a couple of times. FWIW with the MBX mag (G-15 and no tuning), I have never had a failure to feed even when using factory (short OAL). I have a spare MBX G-25, but I haven't tried it yet.
  18. I doubt I can be of much help, but I have experienced this with factory ammo. If I use my reloads, it doesn't happen. In my case, I am almost certain the problem is due to the short OAL of factory ammo. Any chance you are using a short OAL? Even with factory ammo, that doesn't happen when I use my new MBX mags. The SVI mags I have trouble with have very old springs which is what I suspect problem is.
  19. I did mine last year and I definitely think this is something you can do yourself. I just used a brass punch. Like everyone said, take it slow. At least for me, it seemed like I wasn't getting anywhere (taking it slow) and then a few more times with the file and it was almost to the half way point. The triangle shaped file worked the best for me to keep the all the edges even. Good luck
  20. Did you ever try shooting these from a bench or at longer ranges? Are you still seeing the same results?
