  1. Eh... My Para mags with Dawson basepads required nothing more than taking the factory pad off and installing a Dawson to get 20 rounds reloadable. And the pistol was ~$1100 new in 2016.
  2. Have you shot mild steel with a pistol?? I can’t start to tell you how many pieces of 3/8” mild steel plates I’ve shot with pistols and shotguns. The ones listed will be fine. Rifles, however, are out of the question with those targets.
  3. I shot a club match last week with 25 competitors. 5 of those were shooting Limited. Only two of those (including me) were shooting Major. I hope .40 isn’t on its way out of the sport, or common use.
  4. Was it free of the retention mechanism? The way I am picturing what you wrote would be the same as a regular plate falling off the base after being hit, and then leaning up against the base. If the plate was free from the retention, no REF.
  5. I’ve seen a couple guys shooting 45 in Limited. One shoots a long slide Para and I don’t remember what the other guy shot, but neither one was winning matches; it wouldn’t have mattered what caliber they shot. If you already have a 45, I say go for it. If you’re going to buy a new gun, buy a 40.
  6. I’m at $70/k for 9mm .40 and 45 are probably $75 or $80/k .03 bullet (that I cast and powder coat) .03 primer .01 powder brass is literally everywhere for 9mm, so why try to factor that cost?
  7. I wonder what would happen if all classifiers for a particular division were averaged for a year, or six months, perhaps. There would be more fluctuation of division percentage, and it would definitely be possible to drop classes.
  8. Nail polish, fluorescent spray paint.... it’ll all work.
  9. I’m still trying to figure out why we’re debating whether or not someone picks up a round off the ground.
  10. I have never shot anything with UML rules. Do most matches recognize all the divisions or do they pick and choose?
  11. I do think the rule set variations are a pain in the rear. Tac and Open are pretty straight forward everywhere, but if a shooter wants to shoot Limited or Heavy, things start getting weird and in the case of the latter, one might need to own six competition guns to compete at different matches. Some require irons on the rifle, some allow optics. Some require a 45 and 10 round mags, some allow a 9mm. Some require pumps, some allow autoloaders. Then there are clubs that have “production” or something along those lines that don’t exist other places. And then there is “stealth” with tac ops gear and CO pistols. Im not saying a unified set of rules would fix all the problems, but it sure would make life easier.
  12. Maybe this mindset comes from being around the 3 gun game for so long, but I’ll say this: I used a Winchester 1300 with a Choate tube for the first couple years in 3 gun. Then I got a 1100, also with a Choate tube for a few years. Got tired of fighting with the 1100 and bought a 870. Then decided an automatic would be better, so I bought a 930 Flannigan (this was when the 930 was the gun to have on a budget). I ran it, with a little bit of port work for about 6 years. I came across a local deal last year on a M2 set up for open and decided Open wasn’t for me. I swapped it for a M1 worked over by Benny Hill. Then I decided 3 gun was too much work, sold the Benelli, and bought...... a Winchester 1300 and a Choate tube, as Heavy is what I decided to shoot. My point is, a $50 mag tube is the only thing most folks need to get in the game with their current shotgun, but the internet and local shooters make the shotgun the be-all-end-all of the 3 gun game.
  13. I don’t think shotgun makes any difference. Anything you do to your shotgun for 3 gun makes it better for just about anything else. Opening a loading port makes it easier to load while hunting or clay shooting. There have been several ready-to-go shotguns listed on here lately for less than $700. A lot of folks will dump that much into a Glock and never look back.
  14. Thats what I did in mine, along with shot in the frame.
  15. For me: expense, in both time and money. If I go shoot a local, it’s going to end up costing me somewhere between $100-$150 by the time I figure in match fees, gas, ammo, and food (that being said, the closest match to me is nearly 100 miles away, which adds into that “time” factor). So, I leave the house at 7, go shoot aaaaaall day, and feel like I got hit by a Mack truck when I get home, at 7. Majors cost entirely too much IMO. $350 match fees for 10 stages is not worth it to me. I know everyone is going to pipe up “It costs a lot to put on a match,” and I know. I’ve been there done that. But, after the first year or two of a particular match, most of the big targets should be paid for. I’m not sure how much of my match fee goes to the prize table, if any, but I would prefer to not pay that amount and not go down the prize table.
  16. I used #6 and Elmer’s glue in mine
  17. Could you just trim the top of a holster you already have/like with a dremel or something?

  19. I don’t see anything wrong with that!! How did you make it? I’ve done a couple but they all turned out looking like haha.
