  1. Probably the best deal going if they ever come back in stock. SA Novak adj Put one on the 1911 I built, only complaint I have is I think I'd like a deeper notch. Can't really speak to durability yet, should be comparable to any other.
  2. Man I wish we had more Sunday matches. There's one within a couple hours every Saturday here. Two hours one way is a pretty hard limit for me Lvl 1, but I have closer options. I know people that travel further.
  3. I don't shoot a lot of majors, I have heard on several podcasts by those who do of taking several days to a week off practice or very easy before an important match to avoid injury to their hands. Many of those people speak of adjusting training intensity and frequency based on match schedule. I often hear speed and accuracy work determined by greatest perceived weakness, which tends to be how I determine what to focus on. Weather, illness, and lack of progress can all sap my enthusiasm for the next match.
  4. This. Though often I've already checked management page and noticed squadding was an option. Is it possible they're not getting the emails? Despite adding them to my contact list and repeatedly reporting "not junk" Outlook likes to junk file practiscore emails.
  5. I would just rely on the set screw. If I was really worried I'd make a shallow divot in the slide for it to dig into. You can tighten a dovetail fit of metal items by peening. In this case the mount, take a punch make a few divots in the bottom of the dovetail it will displace metal and snug it up. The angle of the punch has some bearing in how much metal is displaced.
  6. Very close. Used this. Have done two grips, probably enough grit to do dozens.
  7. I used the 60 grit off Amazon. Coarser would've been ok, would not go finer. Clean grip, sanding and cleaning again will help adhesion, mask borders, paint on glue, sprinkle on grit, pull masking, let set. I've used JB weld, was hard to get smooth, and some clear gorilla glue that was easy.
  8. Depends. Within a day's drive, can get the time off, doesn't interfere with other plans, sure. Airfare, multiple hotel days, more time off than I wanna spend, probably not. If I were in contention to win my division I'd likely raise the expense/inconvenience threshold some.
  9. We had a new high roof carport installed for about a grand. I built a pretty large tin roof pole barn for half that, maybe less, with siding.
  10. If it is actually bump firing hold it tight against your shoulder and hold the pistol grip tight.
  11. I use Dry Hands, residue will build up in a Glock grip, or carbide eventually, wipes right off anything else I guess cause it's not there.
  12. You described the Shadow 2 as "crazy expensive" which made it seems as though even with a $5k ceiling you weren't looking to spend that much. If you like it, get it, have it cut and run with it, you'll have plenty left over after the gun and gear. The Walther steel frame is worth a look too. The gun metal or plastic is not likely to be your limit.
  13. If you don't want to spend several thousand and you want to shoot an optic Carry Optics becomes your only option quickly. A Shadow 2 out of the box does not work for CO, it needs substantial milling, which adds to the cost you already appear to find objectionable. So under a grand for the gun you find mostly the polymer striker guns. Canik is probably lowest price, S&W, CZ, and Glock in the middle, Sig and Walther toward the top, find the full-size one that feels good to you. Don't think Sig currently accommodates a DPP, so you'd have to have a non RX milled, the others (not sure about CZ) can be had optics ready. Another option, significantly less money than a Shadow 2 would be having a CZ SP-01 milled, it's not the new hotness, but works very well.
  14. Wiley-X look for a fit that says large. The lenses scratch easy, I get replacements thru Fuse, the rubber fails after a couple years, but they're light, the ear pieces are thin and snug to the head, and I believe every pair has an actual Z87.1 rating and whatever the Mil spec is. The ones I loved are no longer in the line, I got some Oakleys instead, they're alright, but I probably get some more Wileys.
  15. Yes, the tablet often travels. And people get used to random. Then you go to a match where the tablet doesn't travel punch up random and on the second stage there's a brief but annoying cluster before they decide to go by last name, and adjust because often the first or last shooter from the first stage ends up in the very top of the order.
  16. Random is garbage if the tablet doesn't travel. Names are easy, rare to have one ahead of me by first, been a bit of that lately, don't care. Member number is probably "fairest" repeatable, if you want to make a suggestion to your squad.
  17. There's some VV powder that has/had data for a 147 at major pf velocities. 3N38 if my quick search was accurate. Not new.
  18. Some have rusted, there was a period four or five years ago I read of a number. I have one from the time that "blooms" rust from what I assume are small defects in the treatment if not oiled, the spots have turned to small pits . Supposedly Glock will refinish or replace, varying reports on charging for it or not, I haven't bothered.
  19. Got basically the same thing from Academy, think it was $15-20, brim is not rigid at all which is lame in even a light breeze. Look up running, fishing, or golf hats, they're all common sights on the range here, as is the classic towel/bandana, I can't get into towels, feels like a blanket, the cooling ones are a little better, I tend to drop them in the dirt/dust though and they really lose appeal as a grimy/muddy mess.
  20. I used mixed brass which includes Hornady in pistol calibers. Never noticed it to be exceptionally sticky on the powder funnel. Wet tumbling seems to make brass stick a little more than dry tumbling, price of super clean brass. Do you use a spray lube? You should, makes everything better.
  21. My experience: Their coating is better, whether thicker, better adhered, or more abrasion and gas resistant I don't know, but Hi Tek does not seem as tolerant of being "undersized". When it comes to leading. Accuracy has too many variables to make a apples to apples comparison in my opinion. One thing to consider is good enough in USPSA, IDPA, and Steel Challenge is not that tall an order for most people. It would be interesting to test same bullet from the same mold, with same coating, but sized .002-3" different, with the same powder charge and COAL, in a handful of guns starting with a clean bore for each bullet dia. from a ransom rest.
  22. Glocks eat .358s no problem, coated or good ol fashioned lubed lead. Zero leading. I've never had traditional rifling stay as clean.
  23. What diameter bullet? As bullet diameter increases, failures increase. Some brass is thicker and/or harder/more resilient. CBC fails often, even loading jacketed bullets. If the brass isn't roll sized it could be expanded too near the extractor groove or have extractor dings, crooked bullet seating will cause failures too. 5-6 per hundred does not bother me. Practice pile.
