Hornady Bullet feeder, worth it?
mach1soldier replied to Gooldylocks's topic in non-Dillon Reloading Equipment
It only takes me five minutes to change calibers with 95% success. Getting it to feed fast, and not any upside down bullets is what took longer. 100%- 32 replies

Hornady Bullet feeder, worth it?
mach1soldier replied to Gooldylocks's topic in non-Dillon Reloading Equipment
I own a hornady and like it. I think the MBF is more reliable though in terms of upside down bullets. I only use fmj and xtreme plated bullets with great success. I wouldn't want to adjust it for multiple calipers very often. Once I got it running perfect, I didn't change bullets or calibers. 60k rounds later, I'm still happy. It is setup for .40 right now without issue. I wouldn't get it for coated bullets or multiple calibers though honestly.- 32 replies

Where in Florida are you tactical?

Trying to aim and get under a second is your problem. Not your reaction time

Take a slow motion video from the side of you shooting a bill drill. Don't have to draw but it will tell you a lot about whether the recoil is more from the slide crashing back, or crashing forward. Might help others give you ideas as well.

Completely stock? If so, that would be awesome tri topped and fitted with a heavy guide rod and magwell.

Best reliability Single Stack 1911 9mm Magazines?
mach1soldier replied to bluesman2a's topic in 1911-style Pistols
You really need to try them in your gun. If all you do is plink, then try the cheaper metal form. They work amazing but are hard to clean so I hate them for competition. Maybe they make ones with easily remove able basepads? -
Flying with stripped AR-10 lower
mach1soldier replied to Zoomy's topic in Travel, Locations, Ranges, etc.
I declared an upper once. Glad I did since I got to sit at tsa for two hours while they researched what constituted a firearm. Technically it's not a firearm but with tsa, declare everything and let them sort it out. Can't hurt, just get to airport early -
I loaded a bunch with titegroup for 1911 and PCC. Shoot great. I think I posted my load once on here. Can't remember off the top of my head.

I'm building a 22lr 1911 currently. Parts list is a complete Colt 22lr conversion kit, and Les Baer stainless frame. What are some good parts to complete the lower? Looking for a 2.5lb trigger to match my USPSA SS gun. Thanks for any help or insight.

Any of the big names will help if you want to learn. I took a class with Tim Herron and Matt Hopkins and loved it. They gave me enough to work on for the next year. The real value from a class comes from applying it for the next year in training. If you don't plan on dry firing and practicing the changes, then you won't see much benefit. You will have a lot of fun though. I'm taking a class with Ben this summer as well.

Magazines sit too high in the gun
mach1soldier replied to Nemesis Lead's topic in 1911-style Pistols
I tried a few.... I measured the gap between magazine and frame on a Trojan. Here are my results. Wilson combat 405 stainless .039 SVI .001 EGW raised mag catch .019 Dawson posi loc .040 My suggestion would be to try the EGW. Hopefully this helps a little. You might also consider undercutting the ejector or something. -
Would look good in a case on top of my safe. Might by one to give my kid in fifty years. Can't see myself competing with one.

I went down from a 16 to 13 on my forty but only dropped 3 ounces. You really need to go shoot it and have a few spares to see what you like. I love a 12lb spring in my .40 but it beats the barrel up.

I could care less about someone picking up brass. I would pay 15-20 more at a major if they did ALL the pasting and resetting. If I could just chill and goof off with friends instead of resetting I wouldn't mind. The problem I see is that you have to train the kids not to reset the steel or paste before the scoring is finished.

I liked my Trojan but it was picky about mags in .40. I would highly recommend hard chrome. All the finish will be gone in 6 months if you shoot USPSA and two months if you are dry firing everyday. Once I found a mag it liked, and installed a raised mag catch, I love it.

In store only in Delaware. Was just visiting so didn't take a chance. They did have a card from vortex saying the lifetime warranty was still in effect.

Anyone ever heard of gunshops selling factory refurbished or repaired vortex scopes? Ran into a place that had over 200 that were cheap and there was no evidence of mounting or issues. The only thing I found different from new was the engraving above the serial number. Anyone seen these?

Most of my family shoots bullseye competition. All of us are using Kart with very good success. I would honestly say though, fitment seems to matter more then brand. Barrel fitment with a tight lockup and a tight barrel bushing are essential to accuracy. Slide to frame fit should also be tight. If you ream the chamber to SAAMI minimum spec, that helps as well. Your reloads have to be perfect though. There won't be any slop in the brass to chamber fit.

What SP primers will a 15lb mainspring fire?
mach1soldier replied to earplug's topic in 1911-style Pistols
I have used: CCI Federal S&B Tula Winchester All with a 15lb spring. Had a few issues with S&B but pretty sure they were all due to a bent firing pin. Put a new firing pin in a few months back and 4-5k with no issues. Basically, you really shouldn't have a peoblem -
I tried a 10lb just to see how it felt. I wanted to see if it would feed from slide lock. After recutting the ramp to 30 degrees, it feeds great. I tried different mags, raised mag catch and 3 extractors all tuned. Ramp was only perfect fix. I never did try round nose bullets. I am interested in seeing how they work for you.
