Yeah I'm going to drill and tap when I get access to a lathe. I wish there was something .005 lower then the egw. To me that would be perfect for mag seating and feeding.

I found cha lee's post but looks like it is all slide related. Who makes a steel magwell? Svi? Most I see are aluminum

Looking for ideas to add 2 ozs or more to my 1911. It's a typical 5 inch SS gun with dawson magwell. I had it tritopped and now it is way lighter. So what can I do that will add some weight and hopefully help with recoil. For reference, I like heavier guns and like the way they shoot. I'm just not sure how to reliably add weight without changing frames.

Are they true round nose? Kind of want to try them and see how they feed in a finicky 1911.

They aren't really any cheaper but I am going to try the 200 grain in .40 to see how they feel compared to the 220's from xtreme I have been using. My only question is if these are going to smoke with using titegroup.

Pretty popular in the paintball world but never seen it in the USPSA / 3 gun world. TIme will tell for you. If your fast and can shoot accurately, then have at it is my thought. You are losing a fingers worth of grip strength though.

The ejector clearance is good. Looks like I can trim the windows, file the frame or use different mag catches then the SVI. Thanks for the tips. I'll relook at them. I really like the SVI but I don't want the mags too high because they don't stick below the magwell at all. That makes them harder to seat for me. Brandon hooked me up. He is sending me some standard height ones to try.

I did a little experiment with a couple of 1911 Mag catches. I was looking for a raised mag catch to help alleviate some nose dive issues in my STI Trojan. My test procedure was to install the mag catch and then measure the clearance between frame and magazine at the front of magwell. EGW Raised mag catch clearance .019 Dawson Posi-loc mag catch clearance .040 WIlson Combat mag Catch 405S .036 SVI Infinity raised mag catch .001 (took tremendous force to lock up) Little notes: The EGW did require a much more forceful push to achieve lockup of the magazine. That little bit of raising the mag is noticeable. It does feed MUCH smoother though. I ended up using the Wilson combat mag catch because it was drilled and tapped for a oversize button which I love. I plan on getting the EGW drilled / tapped and then switching back to that. Even with the extra force required to seat mags, it was worth it for the better feeding reliability in my opinion. I contacted SVI about getting exchanging for one of their standard mag catches. I'm really hoping it comes in around .025 to .030 which I think is the perfect compromise in my 1911 for feeding / ease of seating the magazine. Hope this helps someone.

Looking for advice on which svi grip to get. I have smaller to medium sized hands. Mostly shoot SS so that is what I am used to. I liked the STI aluminum with grip tape but it was fatter then I prefer. I want aggressive but not bleeding hands. What's the consensus from the svi knowledgable. Also will my current STI mags work okay?

I'm about to buy one of each and measure them all just for future reference. I have the dawson, EGW and the infinity in the mail. Seems like a good start to some info people may want.

Anyone know how much the SVI mag catch is raised? I have the EGW but it isn't drilled and tapped. Any other options besides the SVI that is raised and drilled for 4-40 buttons?

My squad mates have no issue letting people know exactly how they feel about people not resetting. If a squad ahead, I wouldn't say anything except encourage anyone I knew to call then out.

I don't case gauge practice or local match ammo anymore. Never had a problem but my chamber is pretty loose. Plus I case pro and have a lee FCD on last step without the insert so it's hard to have much wrong. Usually the only failures I will see for major matches are burrs on the rim still

It's around 25%. Shipping will kill you though. I ordered 35k and wound up only getting like a dollar off of 500 box.
