  1. I started with a DOH and hated it. Went with the BOSS rig and loved it. Much better adjustability and more secure.
  2. A Clymer reamer will do as you ask.
  3. I had both of my 9mm Open barrel throated to 1.165" using a Clymer reamer, without lengthening the chamber. Had the same done to a 45 barrel. Can't answer your other questions, but I see no need for carbide. Barrels are not that hard.
  4. I only use CCI 500 and have no unburned powder with 10.2 under a 115.
  5. Not yet. My PCC is being held up at the anodizers. As soon as I hear it is being shipped to my FFL, I'll order the Wiland.
  6. No. We talked about it and I told them I had to be able to hit a dime sized steel target at 50 yards. They said Benz. The barrel is super accurate, so I don't want to mess with it. I don't mind experimenting with ammo. If I can't find one that shoots 100% long term, I'll open up the chamber and only use the barrel for SCSA. I can always buy a good 16" barrel for bench rest shooting.
  7. I've found they sometime fail to fire or eject in my Benz chambered barrel. Wiland told me he has no problems with them unless he doesn't clean the barrel after 250-300 rounds. I had my failures a lot sooner than that. So ammo I won't use because it isn't 100% reliable in my barrel includes Eley Target, Norma TAC-22 and CCI anything. So far I've found Geco and Fiocchi standard velocity to run flawlessly.
  8. I wear Hooka One One Speedgoats. They are long distance trail running shoes with great grip. In the winter I wear my Goretex lined backpacking boots.
  9. B, take a look at Wiland USA's LLW barrel. It is a 5.5" rifled barrel with a brazed on shroud to get to 16.1". http://wilandusa.com/ar-pcc-llw-barrel-9mm/ That will drop your hot rounds down by 200-250fps, decrease recoil, and speed up transitions. I have their LLW 22 barrel on my RFRO gun and the transitions are lightning fast.
  10. The majority of the victorys I see for steel challenge are either straight stock, or have the V carbon fiber barrel and all the go fast parts. Any red dot you mount will place the weight in your hand. The reason for the ultralight barrel is fast transitions. That being said, the typical sideways mounted SlideRide adds a ton of weight. It don't get it. Weight added anywhere on the pistol slows transitions. I use a much lighter sight.
  11. I've found that sensitivity 5 or 6 is enough to pick up an uncompensated PCC from 20' away. At 5 it has zero problems picking up anything in SCSA, with zero echos and false readings. I love it. Unfortunately every range I RO at uses one of the following: Pocket Pro, Pocet Pro 2, or the CED 7000 (most popular). I'll use what the range provides, except when I'm running a PCC shooter in USPSA. Using my AMG I don't have to crawl up the shooters butt to record the last shot.
  12. I have four or five Burris FF3 8 MOA, three DPP 2.5, two RTS2 6 MOA and three SRO 5 MOA. The oldest Burris was slide mounted on one of my 1911 45s and went 40,000 rounds before the little plastic window covering the LED port cracked and fell off. The sight still worked fine, but Burris insisted on replacing it. The window is small by today's standards, but the dot is easy to pick up when slide mounted. It's size makes the transition from irons to reflex seamless. They are rugged, batteries last seemingly forever and they are relatively inexpensive. If you are going to frame mount the sight, I prefer those with larger windows. I like the RTS2, but battery life is terrible. I get one match at full brightness out of each of mine. The DPP 2.5 is brighter than the Burris and I like the ergonomics. The battery lasts a long time and can be easily changed during a match without removing the gun from your holster. That is also true of the RTS2. For me, the main advantage of the SRO is the roundness of the glass. It allows my subconscious to more quickly pick up steel challenge targets. I think it works like my UltraDot on my bullseye gun, or a peep sight. It is just easier to acquire targets through a round lens, for me.
  13. I shoot Limited and Open. I drew an XD-4" 9mm from a prize table and had the gunsmith who was sending it to my FFL put a match trigger kit in it. I figured I'd try Production with it. NOPE! That thing recoils and the muzzle jump it amazingly high with factory 115 and 124. I shot one outlaw steel match with it and decided to stick with my full size metal guns.
  14. They have. My MBX mags ran flawlessly for the last four seasons. I was perfectly happy with an easily reloadable 20 +1 in 40sw. Same with 25 and 29 in my 9mm mags. I have never understood the obsession with getting one extra round in a mag, especially if it affects reliability. I literally cannot think of a stage I've shot that I would shoot differently if I could start with 21 +1, or 30 +1. I'm more likely to underload a mag so I can drop it with only 3-4 rounds left in it.
  15. email TTI and explain the problem with your new mag. They will make it right. However, they may not get back to you for a week or so, because of problems associated with thr CA wild fires. BTW, it sound more like a mag body problem, not a spring.
  16. The only difference between a 3-port and 1-port comp for steel challenge is weight. You have additional weight hanging off the end of the barrel with the 3-port. That may make transitions slightly slower. I shoot SCSA Open with my 3-port comp, and don't think it makes a difference. I would go with the 9mm sight block barrel. It will allow you to shoot lead, poly coated and jacketed bullets; something you don't want to do through a comp. I've come to the conclusion that a comp is not necessarily a help with minor loads. A 115gr @ 950fps load works well for SCSA and it is super soft out of a regular barrel. That's 109 PF. I have to be up around 135-145 PF for my Open pistol to work reliably, especially in the Winter. The 109 load out of a standard barrel is softer. I shot SCSA Open for years with my Limited gun with optic. This is the first year I've been shooting it with a comp'd barrel. I don't see a whole lot of difference. I'm going back to an uncomp'd barrel and lighter loads.
  17. 38ACP and 38 Auto is trash. 38 Super RL is Armscor brass. It is not likely anyone will want it. If you have a bunch of TJ it may sell. It is similar to 38SC, but with a different rim profile. All of the rest are 38 Super with varying case capacities. If you have gobs of the +P it may pay to separate them out and charge a little more.
  18. A cone comp can be fitted to a bushing barrel. A gunsmith threads an inch or so of the bushing barrel and put the cone comp on. If you cannot find the comp design you like, EGW sells a conversion cone. It goes on like a cone comp, but it's threaded like a bull barrel. So you can use any comp you like. You'll also have totake a little material off the front of the slide to fit the comp, unless you are willing to leave an unsightly gap between the comp and the slide.
  19. I can't figure out how Silhouette, which is very slightly slower than WAC and much faster than HS-6, gives you no problems where the other two do. It doesn't make sense. You can have the throat reamed so you can load longer. It costs me $10 per barrel at a local smith.
  20. Steel Challenge helps with shot calling. Quick double taps on a small steel target helps with splits. Dry fire practice doesn't seem to do anything for me. Practicing live fire with a random par timer does wonders for my draw to first on target shot.
  21. Good to know. I had concerns about it in 38SC, because the case is only half full.
  22. Federal Syntech can be flame cut and cause leading to the comp. Plus there are an unacceptable amount of Ftfs ans squibe. To the links listed above, I'll add the following: https://www.targetsportsusa.com/prvi-partizan-9mm-luger-ammo-115-grain-jhp-ppd91-p-108167.aspx https://www.targetsportsusa.com/prvi-partizan-9mm-luger-ammo-147-grain-jhp-ppd92-p-108168.aspx accurate and really soft shooting. MD Ammunitions reloads 9mm with good plated bullets. A friend used them for two years in his Leadstar with comp and there is zero buildup. The 9mm 115 @ 950fps is literally a mouse fart. It will gain about 200fps in a 16" barrel. This is not commercilally remanufactured ammo. You will get a fair number of short OALs due to brass inconsistencies. Personally, I'd rather pay more for new ammo. That being said, I've shot a lot of the Everglades 9mm 124 reman ammo. It is good and consistent. I'm now using the Prvi 147 and like it a lot.
  23. Even though you didn't ask me, I'll chime in. It's dirty at 172PF, doesn't meter as well as others and it makes the dot wiggle on recoil. Why? I have no idea. With WAC, Silhouette, 3N38 and SWMP the dot tracks straight up and down. With HS-6 it wiggles side to side in a circle while moving up and down. It's disconcerting. Right now my go to powder is Major Pistol for anything major. It is very clean, meters like water, and doesn't fill the case so much that it spills when the shell plate indexes. A little does, but not enough to affect anything. MY SDs run around 4.9. I'm not as happy with it for minor loads, unless they are up around 150PF.
