  1. Thanks for the heads up on the new coating. I really liked everything about their bullets except the smoke. I'll order up a case and see how they do with a couple of different powders, includng e3.
  2. Another vote for Brazos. Very nice kit.
  3. If you're running a compressed load, that can definitely affect OAL.
  4. They probably won't make a difference performance wise. However, you're going to have to change them out when you go with extended basepads (unless you plan on welding/gluing them in place). Otherwise, they'll be several mm too short.
  5. Yes. I found that with a heavier nose, I tend to 'overrun' the A zone during the transition and get more C's.
  6. I actually have steel rods drilled out to reduce nose weight.
  7. I load a handful of rounds in the mag and strip them off with my thumb. If the next round doesn't pop up immediately, its time to change the springs.
  8. Just an observation: 3n38 is on the very slow side of the pistol powders. The others (depending on which burn rate chart you look at, of course) are faster powders. I would try something like AA7, which is very slow but also much cheaper than 3n38.
  9. No issues with the 200's in 3 different pistols. Very accurate bullet.
  10. Most likely. Brazos probably used a 9mm specific follower, which is a little shorter front to back for space for the spacer. I would try it without the spacer and see if it works. If it doesn't, you can get a 38 super follower and you should be good to go.
  11. Any recommendations on how strong of a spring? All of em and see what I want? 10 dollars in parts versus changing up everything else... tough call haha. I bought some from Shooter's Connection several years back. Not 100% sure if these are them or not but I'd give it a try: http://www.shootersconnectionstore.com/Wolff-Colt-1911CMMDR-Magazine-Catch-Spring-Extra-Power-P3464.aspx
  12. For the paddle mag release: get an extra power mag release spring. Some springs are so strong that there is no way your support hand is going to activate it.
  13. I see negativity in some other threads but not in this one. OP is pretty straightforward here with no negativity. Here's what's happening. This isn't right. Does anyone have a fix? Hopefully Adrian is out of the office until Tuesday. Maybe the OP needs the magazine running correctly before then....
  14. Its hard to tell from the pics but that's the way Beven extends the rib further down the tube.
  15. Looks like grams tuned mags. Is there some heat/blue discoloration on the lips?
  16. I usually aim for between .002-.004" below flush.
  17. 105, besides being the most expensive, felt too sluggish for me. 7 and 3n38 feel better but that's all subjective. Not too snappy, not too sluggish. Just my experience but older lots of 3n38 created inconsistent fireballs. I got a 4lb jug (new lot) for cheap and it didn't have the fireballs in the same pistols. Performance between 7 and 3n38 is very close. I use 7 because its cheaper. Its dirtier but that doesn't seem to affect anything.
  18. Update: Called SC up this morning. They'll exchange it but I have to pay for shipping both ways. Not a huge deal but I hate going to the PO. I should have just ordered a new one from Brownells as I'm on the Edge (free shipping) program. Would have been much easier and I would have saved some time.
  19. I'll call them on Monday and see if they'll exchange it.
  20. Ordered an EGW Firing Pin stop from Shooter's Connection to use in a new .40 build. When ordered, there wasn't any toggle for caliber choice. Received the part and it says Series 70 .45 caliber on the packaging. I looked on the EGW website and it looks like they have part number 1037, for 9/38, .40, and 1036 for .45 cal. Shooter's Connection only stocks one part number 1036 (45 cal). Will the .45 caliber work in a .40? The stops pictured on the site look different. I just hate that I'll have to wait another week and spend more $ on shipping for one small part if it won't.
  21. I've been shooting limited for a while but IIRC, it's not a compressed load at 10.2 grains at 1.2" with a 125 zero JHP.
