Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Not running compressed loads...currently loading 6.0 grs. of Autocomp 124gr MG JHP with an OAL of 1.220
  2. I am loading with all stations full. And yes I agree that the "range brass" may be overstressed and hardened. Are you saying that the EGW die will help with the seating issue?
  3. Hello again, I am thankful for the .38 super Lee die input and have found that it works well. Some of the range brass that I have been resizing seems to be too large an id for the bullets I am using (montana gold 124gr JHP). The bullets can be easily hand pushed into the case. I have been checking each case before primer stage. This takes extra time but worth not wasting primers on cases I throw away. I have a new question. I am using a Redding seating die (with the micrometer) and am getting an OAL ranging between 1.240 and 1.220. My goal is 1.220 OAL. Is this common and acceptable differences? If not how to I improve these numbers??? Thanks for any input, LJW
  4. Hey Guys...You are now my new best friends!! I received the Lee die in the mail last nite, set it up per instructions, did the baggie trick with the one shot and ran 100+ rounds through with no glitches!!!! Now to find my "pet" load for the Trubor. Thank you so much for all the advice!! LJW
  5. Thank you gerritm. It makes sense. I should be getting the Lee die in mail tomorrow...I will put all advice to test and see how things go. Thanks again to all advice from everyone...LJW
  6. I did wipe off excess stickiness when I used the lanolin. I have used one shot when loading my .45's and 9mm and have never intentionally wiped them down after. I it necessary and if so why?
  7. Thank you BeerBaron and Bamboo. The reads were informative . I have been using the Hornady's One Shot, also tried lanolin I like the One Shot better. I will be ordering a Lee resizng die today and let you know of my success...
  8. Thanks...I will get to reading
  9. Hi, I'm a newbie to the forum as well as a semi newbie to shooting. 25 years ago I did some bench shooting and ended up with the .45 Colt Officers Model as my firearm choice. I quit shooting til I was talked into the sport of Steel Challenge and USPSA about 11 months ago. After a little research I purchased a Springfield Armory TRP and love the gun. I also have acquired a STI DVC Limited (I now use for Steel) and a STI Trubor .38 Super (which I would like to use for USPSA). I decided to purchase a re-loader (Dillon 650XL) since I seem to shoot quite a bit and "they" say it's cheaper when you reload, (which is a misnomer, I just shoot more now). My issue is with reloading the .38 super. I have been given a lot of range brass and I do understand that it can be hit and miss with the quality of the brass. I am using a Redding sizing die and only get about 50% good brass through the die. The other 50% scrapes brass down the side and leaves a ring and bulge at the base. the brass shot through my gun is all good. Dillon says to use Dillon dies and this won't happen, Redding says I have the die adjustment wrong...I have readjusted the die til I blue in the face and still have bulge and ring at base. I have tried a different tool head with same results. Does anybody have any ideas for me or is this just the way it is with range brass? (I have reloaded thousands of rounds of 9mm and .45 so I feel confident in my understanding of the machine.) Thanks for the Forum and for any advice. LJW
