  1. JP GMR-15. Reliability trumps everything else in PCC. I trust my JP's enough to loan them to an ammo manufacturer demo booth, another shooter and also shoot the same rifle all at USPSA Nationals. Zero issues, plenty of happy faces, 100% reliability. My setups are super soft, well balanced and plenty light. Send me a message if you'd like help setting one up or want to save a bit on JP stuff.
  2. Typically I recommend using the operating system parts, if not the entire firearm, from one manufacturer to avoid issues like this. The cheapest route I would suggest is replacing the trigger with a JP. I can't get my JP triggers to burst. I like that they work as intended. In my rifles every weight short stroke SCS works from 5S to 5T and at some pretty crazy power factors both high and low. My preference changes but i'm currently at a 5S with Federal 130's. That's also using a JP bolt. If you like you can look up and compare total weight (bolt+SCS) and estimate where that would be at with your system.
  3. I like a 10.5" barrel. Long enough for me to get a natural grip on the hand guard and it moves much better through tight spaces. Recoil is similar as the extra "work" from the comp evens out the difference in weight from a 14.5" pin/weld.

    CJ Maven

Just do it. Let him work his combination of light and dark magic and you will be happy. CJ is a good dude and the guns he has worked on for me have been phenomenal.
  5. It does direct the gas so yeah, it works. 115's shoot great out of mine. I wouldn't feel like I gained anything using factory ammo over a reload especially with the PCC and PowerFactor specific loads available now.
  6. Yeah, I'd judge how to respond by the level of shooter. Pops has no clue about the rules. I help him along and mark his division based on what he's shooting but he's there to have fun and doesn't care about finishing in the top half. Quite a few of the Tac Crowd are getting into CO as well which is another area we see questionable "CO" setups. If it's someone trying to game and we've discussed it before as a MD to a shooter in private, I'd be all for @CHA-LEE's call out style. Generally I prefer to avoid that as most shooters just don't know. Either way, the shooter needs to end up in the appropriate division.
  7. The 14.5" is a pin and weld and the 5.5" is a build one of the sales guys (that is also deep in PCC) dreamed up for his perfect JP. The biggest differences are going to be the 5 Stainless short stroke on the 5.5", the UBR stock and the Raptor Charging handle. If you like the UBR stock, which I do, and want a lighter front end go with the 5.5". If you want a lighter stock and the 14.5" pin/weld barrel, you can upgrade with SCS buffer with the Short Stroke conversion kit from BSPS and swap the charging handle if you don't like the Badger. Really you only use it at make ready and unload and show clear so it's one of the least used parts on a JP PCC anyway. The triggers will feel pretty much identical, the barrels will both shoot well and most importantly the guns will both run 100% reliable. If you're going with USPSA, you might also consider adding a Taylor Freelance Magwell and some TF Basepads to your order. Feel free to message me with questions but bottom line is I'd definitely run either rifle at any PCC competition (USPSA, SCSA or Outlaw) and feel confident.
  8. 13# mainspring and an extended firing pin lights off CCI rifle primers but not CCI Magnum Rifle primers in my Shadow 2. I'd expect your setup to work with most factory ammo.
  9. Wait times on Ready Rifles are prebuilt and should ship within a week of purchase. I love the GMR-15 Ultralight setup. It really shines in Steel Challenge where transitions are everything but I've also shot mine in USPSA matches and love it. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.
  10. No I've never ran dry living in a Free State. Like others have said we agree it's not necessary but it can be a convenience.
  11. JP and several others have short stoke factory bolts now to work with LRBHO. @davscoNo disadvantage to a LRBHO on a PCC. All I use mine for is a convenient way to flag or make ready.
  12. @midvalleyshooter if you want something that will run flawlessly you buy the JP and never look back. My rifles are loaned out at pretty much every match I shoot. 1, 2, 5 shooters, it doesn't matter they just run. I even left my GMR's with Federal at their demo bay at 2019 Nationals. The backup was there the whole time and the primary was there when I wasn't shooting it. No idea how much ammo they put through it but it didn't matter. I didn't bother cleaning it or doing any maintenance the entire week (PCC/Open + Limited/CO). After hundreds of thousands of rounds of probably every type of 9mm you can find through my JP's I'm sold. Like @rowdyb, I prefer shooting PCC not tinkering with PCC's.
  13. I have not noticed any issues with Federal Syntech or Blue Bullet reloads.
  14. Zero issues with MG JHP's, PD JHP's, Hornady XTP, Federal HST or CorBon DPX. I run full JP's though so like your initial setup, my guns just run.
  15. Area 4 at USSA, Old Ft Gun Club or Triple C were exceptionally well run matches at top notch range facilities. Stages were good, matches ran well and I had a good time. I haven't been to the LA location yet but I've heard good things. Just like any match, Area matches have a flavor from the range and MD putting on the match. Find the ones you like and shoot those
  16. I was summoned. (Thanks @egd5) The roller trigger is nice if you like it. It seems to be 50/50 in that people that either love it or prefer a traditional / straight trigger. I have one on my LRP07 in 6.5 Creed and love it but most of my other guns have either traditional curved or flat straight triggers. The side charger is a great option but it's not as much of a "must have" as it is with a precision rifle where maintaining a sight picture while charging is critical. For a new baby budget, go with the Radian Raptor standard option and be happy. You can always get another rifle later For attaching various parts other than JP stuff you can get a Pic Rail (JPTR-LRC) and mount directly to that. I like black because of aesthetics, outlaws wear black. There's some slight advantages to the black nitrided coating that are consistent with every other part but if you really like the polished stainless look go for it! Do note it's not a chrome coated bolt, it's polished stainless. Congrats on the new baby!
  17. Pick up the JP Short Stroke Conversion kit (#JPSCS2-9SS-4/5K) and 2 Tungsten Weights (#JPSCS-TUNGSTEN). This will let you swap your current standard SCS to a 5 weight Short Stroke with all 5 weights being tungsten. This is my preferred buffer setup for suppressed or hot ammo.
  18. Be careful about swapping to "hotter loads" without having her test them first. Some hot 115's might end up hitting harder in her hand despite keeping the muzzle flatter. The Federal 115's might be better suited to your wife's setup as the power factor is the same as the 147's just with more gas to help help the compensator a bit.
  19. Also remember to make sure your spikes fit inside the guide bar. Love our bars and Big John (Email: ironman5669@yahoo.com) is a great dude.
  20. I'd recommend getting just a 75 lower as well. With the Kadet you wont shoot the 40 upper much anyways.
  21. My experience does not support this theory. We get quite a few bullet recoveries in our sandy bays and this is a typical image of the base of a Syntech round. This is also typical of Blue Bullets. Note the complete coverage of the base and lack of exposed lead. If you want to use JHP's, that's cool. You do you. The OP has had good experience with Federal already and I'm going to recommend he stick with it.
  22. The Area 4 matches I shot at Triple C in Cresson, USSA in Tulsa or Old Ft. Gun Club in Van Buren have all been fantastic matches. For us the match rotates between venues so it has more to do with the venue and match crew than the match itself whether you will enjoy it or not. In 2020 Area 4 will be hosted by Old Ft. Gun Club again and I have it on my schedule.
  23. @Vargr grab Federal Syntech PCC ammo from anywhere. Synthetic coating completely encapsulates the lead bullet, lead free primer and the powder is very clean. All that combined results in minimal junk building up anywhere. That load is specifically designed for PCC. Also, don't overthink the comp thing. I usually just shoot the crud out.
  24. Either are good options and both companies are solid. I'm local to BSPS so I would buy from them. The Ultralight is my preference for Steel Challenge. Some prefer the standard 14.5" pin and weld for USPSA. Both will be 100% reliable with darn near anything that fits in a Glock mag. I have both and if I had to make a choice I'd flip a coin to pick one to shoot on match day. Going custom is also a solid option. If you end up going that way I'd be happy to help you through the process.
