  1. That's insane. Locally it makes sense but I didn't realize our club mirrored national numbers so much. Most of our Limited shooters are either 3 gunners rocking their 3 gun gats and hosing away or new shooters that sign up for production until we tell them practically they want 3x 17 round mags instead of 3x 10 round mags.
  2. That I certainly do. She's been crushing it!
  3. @gerritm stay away from the milled receivers. Most of those are actually heavier than forged. Aero No-Forward Assist is about the lightest you can go without getting into stupid expensive reductions in weight. You already know the majority of hard to hold weight will be in the barrel and handguard. Make sure whatever hand guard you get is a slim profile though unless she has basketball hands. No use getting a giant round basket weave tube style if she can't get her hand around it. I agree, the balance of the rifle and the recoil characteristics are far more important than the overall weight. Please also keep the comp on the mild side if the youngster isn't used to loud noises. You can go low mass buffer but to be honest I'd recommend a SCS and prioritizing 100% function over a couple ounces of weight savings. Watching juniors clear malfunctions from ultra-tuned race guns on the clock isn't exactly my favorite part of RO'ing. You know my thoughts on wrong handed shooters but since it's for a junior I'd be happy to help out.
  4. @rowdyb correct, zero Open shooters. We have a smaller match compared to APSC with between 20-40 shooters. The only people that show up for Open every couple matches are the Tacticool guys with comps on their Glocks. CO is growing every month, again some from the Tacticool crowd and some from the old eyes crowd. Then there's me that loves the dot but hates brain damage of major power factor grenades a foot from my face.
  5. Odd, we are seeing both PCC and CO growing @rowdyb. PCC is still far more popular but we also have no one shooting open. Must be all the former 3 gunners
  6. Great follow up and I completely agree. You USED to have to do it. Now it's modifying the expensive part of the gun (slide) instead of the cheap parts (springs) to tune recoil.
  7. No point in lightening it. You're just asking for a problem.
  8. I just did it. Stop waiting for permission and do what you want.
  9. I agree that the lack of reloading is a big attractant to the division. As is the stable platform for shooting using a shouldered carbine. I disagree on the lack of difficult shots. Very low ports, tight ports, hard left leans and a multitude of other "PCC hater" positions do introduce other challenges that are not challenging for pistols. The longer shots and tight partials clearly aren't as hard as for pistol but there are still challenges. I still pick up brass though. I just wish I didn't have to trim down so many 9 mm long rounds with red dykem on them.
  10. Our CO shooters Pre-2020 fell into 3 categories: Old guys with failing eyesight that don't want to shoot open (50%). Division transplants mostly from Production and Limited. Limited is super unpopular here because shooting 40 in general is just onerous compared to 9mm (48%). TactiCool Timmies that make 1 match a year (2%). We are only now in 2020 seeing shooters coming out as "new" to competition shooting with CO guns where in '19 and earlier, the majority of CO was division swapping. The new crowd seems to fall into 2 interesting demographics. New to guns and want the new cool stuff and former Mil that want to train in a competitive setting. In the latter we see nearly entirely milled Glock-Brand-Glocks with RMR's / SRO's (new) where in the former the guns are varied and generally follow the production breakdowns (CZ, Glock, Canik, M&P, Tanfo).
  11. I'd argue this would be better phrased as the skill level required for safe operation and proficiency is lower making the division more attractive to people new to the sport . There's no one even close to Max and Josh and if it were easy, any of the top pistol shooters could pick up a rifle and win Nationals.
  12. You won't bend or break it. Actually after the s#!t I've done to mine I'd be personally impressed if you somehow managed that. Yes, I do use mine to clamp and I do feel it gives me an excellent reference point for my grip.
  13. CHPWS has worked for my S2 OR. At about 1000 rounds I put blue Locktite on everything since I was happy with it.
  14. Appreciate the feedback y'all. The 9mm is definitely the way I'm going. I theoretically can reload 38 whatever but I really just don't want to. Even with access to dies and a 6/1050 it's too much headache for a thing I want to do for funsies. I've had experience with both companies on repairs and my experience does mirror your own @IHAVEGAS. I'll likely end up shooting both of them for the final choice but I have a bit of time to do research and a good friend enabler that set me down this road.
  15. Tagged for being "that guy." Thanks @Makicjf for starting this up. So the goal for this whole experience is to buy a wheel gun that can do both iron sights and optics well enough to dry fire and shoot SCSA with a goal of making a run in 2021 at classifying well. This isn't a primary goal, in fact I'm going to try this after PCC Nationals next year. Some people take breaks from shooting. I find taking a break from a primary focus is my best off season. I don't really do well tinkering with things so if there's a plug and play option that's reliable I will absolutely go that route vs. tinkering with things to get them to work. I don't want to screw around with reloading anything and while I'm not set on the 150's, I will be using some type of factory ammo. I will likely treat this like my Tac Sport / Limited experience and sell the whole kit at the end and loose a couple hundo on the setup as a "rental fee."
  16. I like 10 / 50 yards for a zero. At 25 I'm an inch or 2 high but on the in close hoser stuff or really close steel I don't have to think. Just put the dot on the target for most shots.
  17. Glad you like them @gerritm. Hopefully see y'all this Sunday.
  18. We generally don't have lazy shooters come out to our matches. I think that might result from a couple of things. 1) Providing shade and bottled ice water at every match. Pretty much every club can be in the position to do this. In the summer it gets hot in Texas. Objectively the water and ice costs $20-40 a month plus big coolers. That's not all that expensive at all in comparison to other club expenses. It's pretty easy to deal with reset when you're in the shade the majority of the time and you're well hydrated. 2) The experienced shooters lead by example. We are pretty fortunate to have a great bunch of experienced people. They help the new shooters along and show them the expectations. 3) Paster guns . I own 2 and bring both to matches for the squad.
  19. Spot on. Lots of folks worrying about something that isn't an issue. If it were a DA/SA pistol with a lightened spring set and I had magnum SRP's I might venture to say that would require some testing and seating depth checks. But it's not. We are talking about AR triggers in many cases designed to ignite NATO spec primers.
  20. I've been running the JP Ultralight for a few years now. It's been extremely reliable, like all JP stuff, and everyone that has shot it has had the same impression - it's perfect for SCSA. I've run up to 4 people on the same PCC at a SCSA match. For reliability there's no other option.
  21. The magwell makes a massive difference.
  22. Normal 3 port steel compensators on both. I shoot Federal 130 Syntech mostly. I do also run the Syntech 115, 124 and 150 grain loads but I tuned everything up to be optimal for the 130's. That's the Taylor Freelance magwell. It's very nice and well made. The stock is the MFT minimalist.
  23. Well I never had to tune my TS. It shot phenomenally well, was accurate and never puked on me. CZs really are in every way superior for me. Fit my hand perfect and recoil is ridiculously light compared to a 2011. Fun fact, my mags ran my 40 loads (180,200 gr), a TSO in 9 mm with 147 minor loads and a Czechmate with 124 and 115 major ammo without tuning. CZ mags are amazing.
