  1. The promised land is a suppressed shooting match. We did a suppressors only "Civilized" pistol and rifle match with 1 squad of "Inconsiderate Jerks" allowed to run comps and such. Nobody wanted to be on that squad at the end of the day. Shooting suppressed is just so much more pleasant for all involved.
  2. Doom and Gloom! Woe befall us if we enjoy suppressors. In reality having a decent RO that holds the timer with the sensor facing the ejection port prevents this. If your RO is not checking times for sanity like a 10 second time on a 20 second stage train him to do so. If I can consistently time suppressed PCCs at night when shooters are using NV and I'm not then I do not feel it is a stretch to say it's easy to do in the daytime.
  3. My suggestion would be to just order it as a pistol. My E-file Form 1's have been coming back in 7-10 days so it's not that long of a wait to slap on a stock. I have ordered complete lowers before though so you could do the lower first.
  4. It turns out suppressors are legal in Open Division but not PCC division. Maybe we can get that fixed and shoot our PCC's civilized like they were meant to be enjoyed.
  5. Submitted humbly for consideration. We ran 3 shooters on this SBR at our recent night match. At a 250 round falling steel match we hosted a while back we had 4 shooters running the JP suppressed. The GMR just straight works. My buddy has the same 10.5" barrel with a 12" hand guard and the Omega 9K for a suppressor under hand guard look that's divine.
  6. Just skip the IDPA thing as a whole if that's the case. I promise the SBR will be more fun than IDPA.
  7. Nailed it. We have much higher new shooter return rates when we assign an experienced shooter to walk the new guy through the entire match. The "pro" gets his "amateur" and walks him through safety, stage planning, helping reset and it's paid off. We get the positive feedback after the match and we see folks coming back. I bought a couple extra tape guns that I kept for my squad that sped stuff up enough to justify buying them for the club. We turn reset into a game and joke with the new shooters that they can skip pasting by hand and go straight to "Open Division Pasting." If some of y'all other folks want to yell and act like you knew everything your first match to get reset done time I suppose that's up to you. It's not impressive and I wouldn't personally come back.
  8. Unless something changed my understanding was every single Shadow 2 was black nitrided at the factory and a secondary coating was applied after for the different models.
  9. Just keep adding them to your cart as you order things online. There's a couple places with them in stock right now. Heck even JP has them in stock and you can order base pads as well. I'll second longbeard's advice. Stick with GLOCK-brand-GLOCK mags for your GMR. Everyone talks about reliability of the JP but we often neglect to mention the GLOCK mags as a significant contribution to the overall reliability of the platform.
  10. That's not at all normal on any of my GMR's. I'd suggest the OP contacts the manufacturer to discuss his concerns.
  11. Suppressors use a different antiquated processing method involving both moon phase and the roman calendar. The sooner we abolish the NFA the better.
  12. Same model in this thread. Fits normal TS and TSO. Also fits the TS Blue.
  13. Actually this last point is not entirely correct. Suppressors are technically allowed in USPSA Open division and have been used in matches previously. Unfortunately for the vast majority of shooters that WOULD like to use suppressors on PCC's NROI specifically forbid civilized shooting in PCC division. While the claim has been made this is due to the difficulty in recording suppressed PCC stage times, this makes no sense as any properly trained RO can easily catch the last shot via the action. We did it for years with suppressed PCC's and even with suppressed 22's. In practice the joy of shooting suppressed is unfortunately relegated to "Outlaw" style matches. Oddly poppers calibration does not exist in these magical places either. Regarding my argument in favor of a PCC, well, come shoot one. You will understand. Oh, and I'll let you shoot mine suppressed!
  14. This really depends on the circumstances why the match was cancelled. There have been matches that cancelled due to low turnout a few months in advance and matches that cancelled due to hurricanes etc. Let's not forget when USPSA decided to have Hurricane Nationals and how that turned out. If the match cancels 2 hours after surveying the damage of a tornado that's no worries. I hope the range can be repaired and let me know when the rescheduled match will be held. If I can make it I'll make it and if not I'll take a refund.
  15. I've not had a single breakage on my S2 outside of fiber optic rod like you. Bring your standard FO kit, maybe some lube and a 2nd Shadow 2. I bring a 2nd S2 because Murphy's Law and I can't imagine how many parts Id lose doing disassembly at the range.
  16. I'll agree with Senor Miller here. If you never plan on going past 200 yd you can save some weight and cost even with a tier 1 offering. The extra budget can be put to practice. If you plan to grow into an optic and perhaps want to travel to matches out to 600 I can certainly understand your desire for a 1-8. While not necessary, 8 can certainly be an advantage. Of the optics you listed I wold choose the ATACR or perhaps look at the Trijicon AccuPower 1-8 line.
  17. One of my JP GMRs is over 100,000 rounds of random ammo from anyone wanting to shoot it during or after a match. My guns have even been loaned to shooters whose primary went down at a match. They have filled in for several other PCCs but never another JP. 4 GMRs into my PCC journey and many shooters have developed a lot of trust in my rifles. If you want reliable for as long as you own the rifle, the answer is JP.
  18. Save yourself a lot of headache and skip straight to the bliss that is JP. After all these years I still love shooting my GMR. It's been used as a loaner for others, as a stand in for others and loaned out for range demos. I couldn't go with another rifle.
  19. I'd do both. By that I mean set it up so it's very close to your rifle with a similar hand guard, trigger and stock. I'm a huge fan of the new aluminum Ultralight barrel and I honestly wasn't expecting this, but it balances a bit better than my 10.5" SBR. You will also end up with a sick setup for Steel Challenge if you decide to dabble in that game. I gain more from having identical furniture than I gain from weight. My PRS rifle (LRP-07), 3 Gun Rifle (JP-15) and PCC rifles (GMR-15) all feel very, very natural to shoot because they all have similar hand guards, grips, triggers and stocks even though the LRP is over 20 lbs and 1 of the PCC's is ~5 lbs. If I were in your shoes I'd spec out a JP GMR-15 with the Ultralight barrel, 5 stainless Short Stroke SCS, same hand guard, same trigger and same stock as my 3 gun rifle and enjoy the heck out of shooting it!
  20. You do share my impeccable taste in pistols
  21. Taylor Freelance magwell is by far my favorite magwell for my GMR-15. I did some bare magwell / TF magwell testing and you can basically just throw the mag up in almost any reasonable direction and the TF funnels the mag in for you. The TF is very, very well designed and I'm definitely using this on all my GMR-15's moving forward.
  22. No, it was the AKV. In my experience it was neither soft nor reliable. Sloppy QC could explain how different samples had different reliability though.
  23. Shadow 2. Mags are either Mec Gar 17's with Shockbottle basepads, Mec Gar 17s with TTI basepads and Grams guts, SP-01 18's with TTI basepads and Grams guts or SP-01 18's stock. Full at practice or 10 rounds at matches I shoot Production. I'm sure a little maintenance on the pistol itself wouldn't hurt. It just takes so long to do my normal spray the gun with brake cleaner, add oil and then shake/shoot off the excess. I usually only do that when the trigger gets "crunchy" in dry fire.
  24. Friend had one. Jammed pretty often and felt like junk at a short after practice range session.
