  1. Get a case big enough to handle it all. Plucky foam ain't pretty, but works. Pelican from B&H photo.
  2. I use Xtreme 180 Heavy Plate Flat points, and I can only go 1.160. So I'm loading 1.155 and using this in both my DVC and M&P. DVC works fine with this length too.
  3. I had heard that slots would be given to walk-ins for shooter's slots who did not make Saturday's registration. Jake said there would be USPSA contact info given for those flying in late Saturday in order to hold the slots till Sunday. Maybe not an issue now.
  4. I've had a few email conversations with Jake Martens a couple months back. I asked about the registration times, as I was flying on Saturday from the West coast, and didn't think I could get there Saturday. Also, working on my departure, I wanted to know about the awards and prize table. He said registration would CLOSE at 6pm on Saturday. Awards etc., will be given after the appropriate waiting period the SAME day of each division's finish. Tues eve for Limited, Sat eve for Open/L10.
  5. I just got mine yesterday, and ran a hundred failed (loaded) rounds through it. it does not hang up on the bullet area, only on the bulge. And it does a nice job. I did have one which had a bell still on it, and it got a small correction, but otherwise, I can slip the entire round up into the die right up to the bulge before it requires pressing.
  6. I just bought a BB kit, and a 40 die. My intention is to push through LIVE rounds which didn't pass the gauge. Thought I read somewhere that people do that. However, I would not want to risk compressing my loads (seating depth). Is the sized round just sitting in the die based on gravity, or is there still some compression going on?
  7. STI DVC 40. Started with 1.125, TG (4.9gr) and 180 Heavy plate Xtremes. Tried 1.180 using N320 (5.2gr), no problems, except can't use them in my backup M&P Ltd 40. Just developed a 1.150 load that works in both. 5.0 gr N320, Heavy Plate Xtremes. Hits 170 pf in both guns. Yeah!
  8. I have a DVC and bought replacement adjustable rears (to add FO). My pin moved out between stages after they were installed, and I just push it back in. If it goes too far out, the whole thing will pop out, and the springs will get lost. I know it should be sent back to Dawson, but I have matches every weekend, so I just superglue each end. It may hold for a whole match, but then starts walking out again.
  9. On the new scoring format, (which shows a filter menu on the left), each competitor's name is a link to individual summary results. From there, there is a "..." detail button which shows each stages A, B C hits, penalties, etc. You can also put two competitor's side by side, and see stage by stage comparisons. Our club match got posted this way, but I notice Area 4 is not using the NEW format, just an updated OLD format. Maybe its based on when it was first set up.
  10. Used to just throw mine in the mud, stomp on it, hose it off and shoot it again. Flawless. Actually, pretty anal. After every match, full cleaning including striker removal. Frog Lube. Only things changed after 20k is the striker springs, and recoil springs. I use DMPs, which do get soft.
  11. Interesting you mentioned the flag as worn on the shirt. We have an Army MP Captain who said that the flag must be worn on the right shoulder, stars forward. I've noticed that other shirts have the flag on the left. All I know is that the star field must always be on the forward direction of the shirt, whether left or right.
  12. At Double Tap 2014, Robert had a stage with a port that you had to move in order to engage the targets. Quite interesting.
  13. I was waitlisted, got a slot, but not on the list. If there are 36 x 12 per squad, that's 432. I guess they are splitting it in half since 221 were given the chance up front. Bummer because my club squad is full. Funny how none of this was communicated.
  14. I just got a 100 pak of Metrics from MGM Targets. $55 + $22 shipping (roughly).
  15. I have a 28" hard-sided roller suitcase, and a Pelican case that fits inside. I have a cable and lock that threads through posts inside the larger suitcase so that it cannot be removed without making a scene. Since TSA no longer inspects each declared firearm case, I'm finding the airline check-in agents to be totally untrained. Some try to past the orange tag to the outside (for the world to see), and I had one that wanted me to open the LOCKED container (while on the ticket counter scale) to show her it was unloaded. Yeah, I'm going to wave my gun around in the airport. Carry the TSA info with you for reference (to show the agents), but if anything is out of the ordinary, have the gate person get a TSA agent over to resolve the clown show.
  16. I had this. The Dillon cust support said its because the force required to seat the bullet is excessive. Solutions are one-shot, or use dry media with polish rather than wet tumbling. The lubrication provided by the dust/polish will mitigate the force required. I use pre-treated dry media now, and the problem totally disappeared.
  17. Mine's on the 1st (belly) pouch. This comes in handy on those starts where you have to retrieve mags on the run. It can hold 2 loaded mags and won't get bumped by your arms while moving.
  18. Belt has 4 DAA Racemaster pouches, 1st pouch with a magnet (to carry starter mag). Load only the mags I need for my stage plan, plus 1 for failures (drop, jam, whatever).
  19. Our club had 11 members wanting shirts for Area 1. We had some logos from local companies, had 1 custom logo done, and sent it in. With proof work, and 11 shirts, it was $95 ea, with 5% discounts for active military or LEO's. Uses zip/mandarin collar. Nice shirts.
  20. I had a red FO front and blacked out rears to begin with, and could not find the notch when getting on target. (I have to wear 1.5 readers in real life). Putting rear green FO's allow me to hit targets at distances greater than 25 ft. Without it, bullets go everywhere.
  21. I got a DVC a couple months ago. It came with 2 140's, and I replaced them with Taran pads, springs and followers. Bought 4 MBX 140's, and 2 more STI's, then replaced those guts too. The DVC is used for USPSA Ltd division, so I use the MBX and one STI during the day. In another venue which limits you to 10 rds per mag, so I use the STI's to allow slide-lock. I noted that the Taran followers will lock the slide back with 1 round still in the mag, so I use the factory STI's when loading 10. (I have a Nitro-Fin when doing USPSA so there is no slide lock at all). During the other, I use the regular slide-stop.)
  22. I'll say one thing about going 40. If you're reloading, I easily created slow 40's that are accurate, and softer than 9mm. I'm talking 750 fps rounds of 180gr bullets. This is fine for steel. However, you might find that because of the ports, the gun may not cycle as briskly, and if you use a reduced spring, you have to overcome the striker spring in battery. You don't want to download 9mm either, cause you will definitely have cycle problems. Also, you can buy conversion barrels from KKM for the 40, and have both worlds. At least this way, for USPSA, you have Major PF to get those extra points.
  23. Although I'm new to my 650 (since Feb), I've seen these issues, and at least have some answers. Brass shavings for me came from NEW and once fired brass. Even with One-Shot, it still appeared. The Customer Service guy at Dillon said that I should tumble new brass (dry media) to round the edges, and eliminate the need for One-Shot, since the fine powder acts like a dry lube. As for the shell plate, I've had similar hangs. First hang was me putting in the wrong guide, meaning the little drop in ramp from the brass feeder to the plate. (I load 9 and 40). Make sure the plate is tightened down enough so that it does NOT have a speed bump from guide to plate. Also, keeping the tension tight eliminates the "snap" which can make the powder jump too. One other thing I had was on the finished round ejection wire. This wire was rather high on my setup, so I bent it so that it rides as low as possible on the plate. This keeps it from binding the brass to plate.
