  1. I bought the SW 1911PC last year, and ran it a couple times in IDPA. I was told by an SO that it was not legal. I asked for clarification last year, and in this years 1st qtr clarifications, I was able to dust it off for some work. The criteria as stated below is the production numbers. Similar reasons for the Glocks.
  2. I have the Peltor Tac-Sports, and find them pretty good. I can hear people talking in the next bay! I've never noticed any clipping of normal conversation unless are shots fired nearby. The only time I'm annoyed by them is when our Nevada winds kick up into the double-digits. Sounds like jets flying by. Have never tried anything else, so I don't knows if these are the best, but works for me. I've been able to hear squib pops pretty clearly too.
  3. Geek. Software VP (small company). Hit 50 and am falling part. Hung up the snowboards, wakeboards, and the mtn bike is getting dusty. Two bad shoulders, creaky knees, etc. This sport give's me both a physical and mental game to work on. Kind of like noisy golf.
  4. As I've become an RO and SO lately, my scores have suffered. I may do the "shoot first" which will be my prerogative as squad leader, and see if it does keep me in the game. I've been shooting last to get things moving fast as we start a new stage.
  5. My first USPSA match, I DQ'd (AD w/ Single Stack) on the reload, last stage, last array of targets. Then I signed up!
  6. I'm also attending the Double-Tap next month, and have never participated in a Level II. Not only that, but I'll be on the RO staff too. I have no access to a "Chrono", and I plan on shipping out 500 rds of Winchester "White Box/Value" .40 ammo (Ltd-Major). Hoping I don't have any issues making major with that brand. (5" M&P). Got a deal on it at $30/100box. See you there!
  7. For new shooters, I tend to recommend USPSA before IDPA. My reasoning is that USPSA is freestyle (shoot 'em as you see 'em), vs. all the IDPA rules with cover, standing reloads and required tactical sequence or priority. These layers of complexity add more stress when you are just trying to get the hang of the draw, point, shoot, unload and holster basics. A cover garment gets even more distracting. Our club will put newer shooters together so that the pace is comfortable. Dave
  8. I recently changed to the 4# Wolf striker springs, and it made a difference in the battery issue. However, I ran a batch of ammo with hard primers, and had about a 1/10 failed ignitions. Be sure to test your ammo before a match.
  9. According to the instructions, you should wipe dry all surfaces once the gun has been conditioned with FL. There should be no trace of paste or liquid anywhere. Once the gun gets warm from firing, it will "sweat" a little. In sub-zero's here near Tahoe, never had such a problem (gumming up).
  10. I have these sights from Williams for my M&P. They use larger diameter fiber rods, which I need at my old age. Tried Dawson's, but they were not very visible to me. They are aluminum, so care needs to be taken when being installed. I got mine from eBay, and saved a few by not buying from Williams directly ( www.WilliamsGunSight.com ). A link for the GLOCK version is below. I bought from this vendor now 3 times. (Other sources available too). http://www.ebay.com/itm/Glock-Adjustable-Fiber-Optic-Williams-Fire-sights-/131167147507?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e8a2bd5f3
  11. I have rubber on the table vise jaws, and I did remove the base plate. Key is to only give it an attitude adjustment, not a crushing squeeze. These do not flex, so any pressure changes the shape.
  12. I got one of the SSS slide rackers too, and its loose. I cut a long strip of electrical tape, and ran it along the edges of the cap. Nice an snug, and it hasn't worked loose even after 1k rounds of 40. Dave
  13. Too bad you're not shooting a M&P 40. I have both 9 and 40 10rd mags, and putting the 9mm base pads on the 40 mags make them work with the SSS magwells. I live in NV, but when in Cali, I have to play LTD-10.
  14. On the Safariland 014, which model is it? There are basically two variations (other than color), and nothing on their website(s) (Safariland.com or Holsters.com) mentions M&P. I like red, so there is either 014-683-351 or 014-853-351. Which one works?
  15. Believe it or not, the sides of the magazines can begin to bulge ever so slightly. Particularly when you really have to "STUFF" that last round in. I put the mag into a vise and give it a little squeeze when a mag starts getting sticky. Works fine.
  16. I went to my local big-box Sporting Goods store (starts with a C), and found I did need a 1/2 size bigger. Ordered on-line from Zaps, but knew I had the right size. Wanted the SpeedCross 3 in black with red laces, and the C store only had green.
  17. I have to be in LA that weekend. Found out that a class is planned in Carson City - NV in the next 2 months. Thanks!
  18. Interesting. I bought the KKM conversion barrel, and don't have any issues with slide lock, or anything. Not sure why having a 9 barrel would do that. The only physical issue with a 9 barrel in a 40 slide is the extra slop at the breach/chamber interface.
  19. Scorch (Robert), Are you fully staffed? I have my cert for RO, and would like to get a Level II in my experience folder. Sent you an email earlier, but perhaps you are busy. I'm available full-time-all days, but would like to shoot as well. Last I looked, the RO squad list looked like you had openings, though I don't know if this translates into an opening for RO staff. Please provide an update if you can. Thanks
  20. What state are you in? I'm in Northern Nevada, Reno area. Willing to travel to NorCal cities surrounding Sacramento. As suggested above, I've sent emails to SOI's located in NorCal. No response yet.
  21. I have emailed IDPA and have not received any response to requests for a SO training schedule for this year. Just got certified as an RO for USPSA, and would like to do the same for IDPA. Anyone have such a schedule showing locations, dates and contacts?
  22. I know it sounds kinky, right? There's probably some reason that doing it is going to cause problems, but at least they are holding up better than the TT's. This weekend, I did a Sunday USPSA match, and just before, shot about 500 rds in practice. Didn't have to do anything to them as they passed the slide test.
  23. I built my M&P 40 for Limited and have the same TT base pads. I originally used the supplied "extra power" springs, but found that they lost their tension when I was stuffing a full 20 rounds in them. Did a stretch/pull on the springs, and starting running 19. However, after a few stages, an over used mag would do an occasional mis-feed when about 3-4 rnds remained in the mag. Last two matches, I put back the factory 15 rnd S&W springs (with a stretch/pull), (19 rnds), and haven't had any issues so far. I base the need to stretch and pull based on putting in an empty mag, and pulling the slide back and seeing if the slide stop goes ALL the way up into the slide/notch. If not, stretch/pull. One other thing, I polished the barrel's feed ramp to a mirror finish (KKM). Dave
  24. Had to have rear sights with something that stands out, so I use the William's Fire-sights. Nice adjustables with very bright inserts. (The pic is at my desk, but outside, they really pop. I can't use the blacked rear sights because I cannot focus on anything closer than 4 ft out.
